  1. Hey ya'll, I've decided that I will buy one lv500 to try the bait in a grass lake back home. Wondering what colors ya'll recommend. Looking to rip grass with it. Looking forward to your responses and to finally have more time to fish soon :).
  2. SB 5 and BB 7. So 6 if you want something for both
  3. I seem to have better luck with jigs around rocks. Believe that is because bass on riprap feed heavily on crawfish. Either way, a crankbait or jig is my choice right now for rocks. But wait... I thought I said I was only focusing on spinnerbaits and lipless for 2021..... well I guess that lasted just as long as all my new year's resolutions
  4. I just did a comparison between the line diameters of Pline CXX and BG. Hmmmm. Big game less diameter than CXX. Idk man, maybe I will have to give big game another go. Any thoughts on comparison between the line properties of CXX and BG?
  5. I just made an order of a bunch from top brass after I tried the 1/4oz red and liked them. I’ll report back on my results this summer when I am back home.
  6. Thanks for the clarification!
  7. Thanks for the comments thus far. With some of them, I knew what I was in for, lol. All I know is, I don't know. I absolutely love spinnerbaits, but they make no sense to me. What works is often different than what I think. @king fisher and @riverat have mentioned black spinnerbaits under sunny conditions. That makes zero sense to me, but the bait monkey says I have to try it. Anyways, I asked this because I'm always trying to tinker with spinnerbaits. I have a whole lot of fun doing it.
  8. I have been so confused over the abrasion resistance question of mono vs flouro. I looked this question up online and got both answers. Mono has been more abrasion resistant for me, but then again I have used pretty tough monos. Help? Lol
  9. Hey ya'll, I admit this one seems mighty silly. Anyways, anyone color spinnerbait wire? Asking this question gives me 'bored winter' vibes but this question has been bugging me over the past couple days. Read in an old bassmaster magazine that bass are particularly attracted to green and blue. Got some ideas. Anyways, has anyone done it and what were your results?
  10. Ya'll, Looking for some insight on this fishing trip. In NY, water temps right about right for the beginning of the spawn. Nasty weather. 12mph and over winds, overcast, and light rain. Late in the day to a little after sundown. This screamed spinnerbait to me. I fished safety pin style ones parallel to the bank where thicker weeds and some light wood were. Sometimes farther out over grass beds. I also fished shad raps 5-7 gold and yellow perch bumping against riprap on another side of the reservoir. Also fished mepps aglia and mepps comet mino hoping for a bite from either bass or trout (the reservoir is stocked with many many trout). Very clear water normally. Up to 28'. Im wondering what happened. Seemed like a great time to fish this heavily pressured reservoir, I dunno. But I'm always of the opinion that when i come up empty handed, its my fault.
  11. Yeah... I wish I'd listened to people like you when I started casting a baitcaster. Used 20lb braid for a long time including period when I was learning. Dealt with all sorts of line dig issues. I recently spooled up 30lb braid and now it feels like cheating. I aint good at a whole lot. But I became quite adept at picking out backlashes. ?. Learn through failure. Edit: Btw, I just really like braid to mono. Especially if that mono holds up well to wood and rocks.
  12. I did not know that the lightning rod came in softer actions. That’s the one then. I have used the lightning rod before and loved it. Thanks
  13. I agree with rapala's bluegill color, but not live bluegill. I also like strike king's neon bluegill. Crankbaits should not provide photo copies of fish because they will miss providing the key colors that bass key in on when chasing fish. An exception I can think of is when yo-yoing a lipless crank. I may opt for a more detailed lure then since it is moving slower and providing less of a visual blur. The blur I believe is caused by the crankbait's wobble as the colors on its side blend together and certain colors will stand out or not.
  14. Hey ya'll, Looking for recommendations on a cheap spinning rod to get for shad raps and inline spinners ranging from 1/4oz-3/8oz. This is an area where I don't feel the need to spend a whole lot, but want a rod that works for both because I love these lures. Would like a medium action, maybe a moderate fast tip or moderate tip. Thanks!
  15. Yeah man if you want some extra sensitivity and smaller profile, go for it. I believe @WRB is right about the brass n glass combo. Have yet to try it myself, I have some by top brass but havent gotten around to throwing it. I will say that another older gentlemen who is somewhat mentoring me in fishing also mentioned brass n glass to me and touts its advantages. Take a look into it.
  16. Thanks for the suggestion. I like carrying blades too :).
  17. Yeah I didn’t know that other hobbies exist besides fishing
  18. Warm water and rain = buzzbait. Spinnerbait too. Shallow water low visibility. Get dem pigs.
  19. Heck I've broke off limbs before with 15# big game before the knots fail. That's mono though :).
  20. I like your color selection on those lv-500s
  21. Hey ya'll, Was browsing the Nichols site the other day planning for a future order and took another glance at their shattered glass series of baits. Then I looked in the custom shop and realized that it may be possible to get the shattered glass blades in colorado. Wondering if anyone has used the shattered glass blades and how well they produce and under what conditions? Did a quick google search and don't think a thread has been made on these blades before.
