How Old?
Spinnerbait bites with surface temp of 42? Don’t give me an excuse to throw them nearly all winter again ?. That’s an awesome bass though

How Old?
Forgive me, don’t understand what you’re trying to say lol. I have no idea what is on the fish finder there. Possibly my fight with the fish as the horizontal photo was taken very quickly

Who introduced you to bass fishing?
Brother I’m so sorry for your loss.

Who introduced you to bass fishing?
Nobody. I was introduced to fishing by a family friend and a couple fishing trips with family for whatever wanted to bite but I saw these bass fishing videos on YouTube and thought bass fishing looked really fun. The family friend kept encouraging me to go for different species but all I wanted to go for was bass. He didn’t know too much about bass fishing either. I have learned lots of hard lessons. Now I have a couple mentors to help me along. Bass fishing is just an awesome sport

Bait smells(from factory)
I did too lol. Think it was the same post. That gave me a good laugh. KocoTheAngler, thank you for reviving this 11 year old thread because I never would have found this thread otherwise. Seems you’re relatively new to BR, welcome :). And if you haven’t posted an introduction in the intro thread, head on over there

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Couple of great Michigan largemouth. Can’t take credit for the first. Fishing with family and they handed me the rod when a live bluegill was attacked. The second I can take credit for and was caught on a 7” Gambler burner worm.

Bank fishing near Grand Rapids
Hey ya’ll, I’m visiting family near Grand Rapids. Wondering if anyone has some suggestions for bank fishing locations in the area since I won’t have my kayak with me. Hope everyone’s well. Edit: Rentals for like a canoe or something could work too.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
As promised, photos of my new spinnerbait combo. If I like it enough I may use a similar one for buzzbaits. I tried the combo out today. First impressions… the winch is phenomenal. The rod seems good. Two dinks in a couple hours, combo worked good. I had more photos but my feet accidentally made the photos and I just don’t know if y’all are into that or not….

I’m clueless
Thanks for the comments so far. I am reading through A-Jay’s post on Brown Bass Tools that is pinned. I am on the weather chapter and fascinated by all the information. I have had people tell me that they thought that smallmouth were much like largemouth and that it’s just kinda luck which one you catch. I was not of this opinion at all and so just looking to learn ?.

I’m clueless
Hey there. I don’t know anything about smallmouth. I’d like to catch some on Oneida Lake sometime soon. Wondering if tackle I have for largemouth can be easily used for smallmouth as well. As well as some seasonal behaviors for smallmouth associated with late summer that I should be aware about. Little tips are fine too. I pretty much will have the following with me for my trip: - Senkos - Large swimming worms - Spinnerbaits - Buzzbaits, mostly 3/8oz and up - Frogs I will start reviewing some articles here on BR to help me but posts asking questions have been very helpful to me in the past

- Buzzbait blade cupping
Thanks!- Does anybody use a Pflueger President XT Spinning Reel ?
YES. Awesome reel. Get it. That’s it- Favorite Lures
As far as the design of lures or the lure itself goes, this is nowhere more important than with spinnerbaits. The swivel, blades, head design, wire length, wire diameter all have effects. Most spinnerbaits are better fished with a slow reel. And they perform best around thick cover, at least for me. Something has to break up the profile of a spinnerbait for it to be effective, most of the time. That can be water clarity, wind, cover, clouds, etc. spinnerbaits are just really darn specific. I like single bladed ones.- Buzzbait blade cupping
Hey ya’ll, question for clarification. Was doing some reading and saw that people recommended cupping a buzzbait’s blades inward in order to allow the buzzbait go slower. Trying to get a visual sense of what they mean. So a buzzbait blade has opposing folds on either side of the blade. Looks like they are bent at about a 90 degree on most. So does ‘cupping’ inwards mean decreasing this angle to a lesser one? Like bending these opposing folds so they bend closer to the rest of the blade? So hard to explain what I mean in words. Hopefully ya’ll get it :).- Advice for lure choice and fish location in HIGHLY stained water
Very interesting- Favorite Lures
I just ordered some gambler burner worms to try out ??. yeah actually this response fits me too. Buzzbaits are cool too- One Of These Days...
- Advice for lure choice and fish location in HIGHLY stained water
I go slower and closer to cover in muddy water. Lures with attracting features such as rattles, hard vibrations, or bright colors I have not found to be necessary. Key is slow and close to something that the bass can keep their nose against- Crazy bycatches?
