Bob Toman Spinner Blades
I was thinking about you when I asked this question. I thought I remembered that you had some background fishing for salmon in alaska. Thanks very much for the reply. I let bait monkey drive the wheel and got several different kinds. A pretty cheap offering for the monkey though to keep him satisfied for a while. I like fluted blades and I like those mag willows so I got some fluted indianas and mag willows. Heck, I'll post later on here what I think. Probably won't be crazy results but it will be something the fish probably havent seen before

Spinnerbait ID please
I agree. What a cool spinnerbait

How many "Average Joe" bass anglers do you think are out there who could dominate the pros?
One of my fishing mentors talked about this with me. From the stories he’s told me about fishing with some of the pros and how much I respect him as an angler, I don’t doubt for a second that the guys and gals who do this for a living are extremely skilled, more so than I can probably grasp

Bob Toman Spinner Blades
Hey ya’ll, Ive seen on lurepartsonline that they sell and promote Bob Toman “Signature” spinner blades. What’s up with these blades? Not much? Or are they different than other blades? Their blades that have half gold and half silver are kinda cool. They run very cheap also.

favorite spinnerbaits for late summer/early fall
Glad to hear you went with the Nichols even though others had wonderful recommendations. About gaining confidence in a spinnerbait, IMO @Captain Phil offered the best advice on spinnerbaits I’ve seen on here. Phil step in if I misquote you but I believe you said to fish it slow and fish it around cover. That is how I almost always fish them. Lately instead of paralleling lily pad edges I’ve tried to throw into them where possible through small gaps and what not. Cover helps conceal the spinnerbait in addition to throwing it around what the bass are actually relating to. A spinnerbait is much more snagproof than many think and IMO the nastier you get with it, the better. Please try a single bladed spinnerbait too. smallmouth spinnerbladin is a whole different deal I think and @A-Jay could certainly offer great advice on that

Hair jigs
Hey ya’ll This winter I’m interested in making some hair jigs. Wondering if anyone has some experience with this and what equipment I need to have for this. Can you tie the hair with the weedguard on or does it have to be removed? Any tips welcome.

Looking for a Chatterbait Rod
Admittedly this does not meet some of your specifications but I use an iRod Stone Cold Swim and Vibrating jig rod for spinnerbladin and buzzbaitin and I love it. It is a little long and works a little better for buzzbaits than spinnerbaits but I am quite pleased with the rod and prefer it’s moderate fast action. I do not have issues with hookups

Monofilament Line
Sounds like you got a hookset into that fish :). I used to use exclusively braid to leader. When I transferred over to mono, I had to improve my hooksets, and I see that as nothing but an absolute win. Mono and a more flexible rod = absolute confidence for me that that fish is not coming off.

its profound how buying a kayak really opened up fishing for me.
Yak back in the winter. Yeah, kayak fishing is the deal. On these small ponds with less time I go without the cooler and fish finder these days and stand to fish. sorry about sideways pic

Confidence Bait
Spinnerbait fan here also. Confidence in it just snowballs. You can develop understanding about the lure, learn where it works and why, you can see it if you are retrieving it up in sight, you can feel it, you can pump your rod or reel a few times and see the bait actually do what it's supposed to. It works in many conditions but is not necessarily the best choice in some conditions. I struggled with it a lot in the heat of summer. I believe that soft plastics are more effective with warm water and hard lures are more effective in cold water.

Does braided really spook fish?
I have a related question but first I'll stay on topic. I believe braided line can sometimes make small differences in catch rates if the braided line is relatively heavy. Okay, has anyone used a method for trying to make mono less visible by putting in dark streaks along the line? Similar to putting black sharpie on braid. There was a youtube video under the channel old school bass fishing videos where it was shown that green line was less visible and that when you dotted the line with a black sharpie, it was also less visible. They had an underwater view to offer the comparison. Thoughts?

In the small ponds i fish, nichols metal flake pulsator, 3/8 oz single colorado in the bluegill color

Is it common for spinnerbaits to get bent up easily?
And amen to that. Nichols are my favorite in the same price range as yours. They are quite durable, but that doesnt stop them from being absolute fish catching machines. I've got one running that has easily caught over 35 or so

Quiver Redundancy
3 rods is what fits in my kayak currently with holders. I feel at any given time, a selection of three baits is good enough for me. All three are meant to work for another lure though. I find myself retying less and less these days

What are you throwing right now?
Shaky heads for speed worms arrived for me today

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Wrapping up fishing from this weekend. Got most of my fish on a spinnerbait. One fish I was very pleased with, that is the last one pictured. Longest fish I've caught around here, did not weigh, my guess is 3.5. Had a few 2's and of course many smaller ones.

What are you throwing right now?
On a spinnerbait bite right now along lily pad/weed edges. Others in area reported having good luck on chatterbaits. I have had a few on buzzbaits. Moving lures seem like the deal right now around here. Only a few bites on flipping jigs/punching and they have been smaller.

Fish Rejecting Jig Question
Thanks for response Catt. So it is primarily line tension that the fish feel. I was reading something that Hackney once said. He said when he flips a jig, after throwing slack for a vertical descent, he slowly reels in the slack so as to not quickly put tension that the fish can feel. That prompted my question. I thought Hackney’s method was clever.
