  1. Wait did OP send a kissy face at the end there? My goodness, I didn't send it back. ?. Love you boo
  2. Beat me to it ?
  3. You been on the latest tackle purchases thread (bait monkey victim support group)? You may find some like-minded individuals there :). I'm not going to bash someone I don't know for how they spend their money. I personally spend too much money as well on tackle for where I am at in life but I do fine and I sure have a lot of fun fishing :). So there's that. Haven't spend a dime on alcohol this semester. I'm not really fun at parties.... lol
  4. I am literally the world's worst with a jerkbait. But I know they are deadly, deadly lures. I am further certain that not just some jerkbaits, but all will more than likely catch a bass. Edited to add this: So, I would say the vast majority of my wasted tackle is due to me trying a technique and finding out that it doesn't work that good for me. I just stick with what works for me but I know someone could pick up the same lures that I allow to collect dust and catch lots of fish with.
  5. I didn’t even know those were a thing. Thanks. They look nice Used to throw z-craws on jigs a whole lot. Great great jig trailer
  6. Take a look into iRod Genesis III series. I own two and they are just awesome. One of Tackle Warehouse's best selling rods and the rod series has just about a rod for every technique out there. Only reel i have that I truly love is my REVO Winch and it is a little technique specific so don't have too many recommendations on reels.
  7. I used this same reasoning when I was throwing a lot of gold blades regardless of conditions this summer. They worked good, but faded off for some reason. But I changed both the blade color and blade type when I started throwing silver this fall, so who's to tell what actually accounted for the increase in success. I think there's arguments for both sides of this, in trying to match the hatch or not. @Catt on old post said he likes to use copper blades when imitating bluegill, I believe, if my memory serves me right. But I know people on here who have said, and recently so, that they have always thrown a white spinnerbait when it does not resemble a bluegill at all even while fishing ponds that don't have shad. Spinnerbaits are confusing to me sometimes. Right now, I find one that works and just stay with it.
  8. thank goodness. Lol
  9. I'll explain what I did fishing for the first time on Otisco. Critiques on my approach very welcome! Here's the depth map I found online: Now with it being fall coming from summer, I was looking for more gradual sloping contours and a way to deal with the wind in a kayak. The wind was blowing generally from the South. I focused on the circled area on the map for the reasons that it had generally more gradual contours, I could target the windblown banks leading into the Narrows, the Narrows themselves looked like an intriguing way to fish, the DEC website online mentioned that the North end of this lake was generally good for largemouth fishing, and it would be easier to deal with the wind on the far north of the lake. I fished docks first, and, over the course of my day, I picked up two fish doing that. They were my best ones. I got one on a windblown bank and another in lilypads way up on the North end of the lake. I could not establish a pattern on the lily pads or the windblown banks although I tried for both. But generally after fishing docks, I proceeded to the lily pads. After the lily pads, I did some mid-depth spinnerbaiting in the middle of the cove to the north of the narrows. This didn't produce even though I really expected it to. After that I went to windblown banks and after that, I went back to docks on my way back to a park launch. What do ya'll think? I basically threw a spinnerbait the whole time although there was some swimbaiting mixed in
  10. Well, I certainly can’t claim that I am a better _____ angler than most on here, but I would like to emphasize and add to what @everythingthatswims said here. Fishing spinnerbaits and buzzbaits (I fish them pretty much the same) from a kayak can be miles better than from a boat, IMO. Watch Jimmy Houston fish a lily pad field with a spinnerbait. He never makes a long cast. He makes short, accurate roll casts into pockets, paralleling the cover, and otherwise. This is close quarters fishing. In a kayak, you have the ability to get extremely close to a wary old bass without spooking her if you are quiet. You can sneak up on her so effectively and present your lure very naturally. I believe the above is the reason why I fish spinnerbaits as much as I do. They simply work great from a kayak. I do not often make long casts with a spinnerbait or buzzbait when fishing for largemouth if fishing shallow water with the lure up in sight. It is my preferred way to fish them in shallow water. Quiet, dead accurate, slow next to (hopefully) big momma. I’m working on the locating big momma part
  11. That's a great idea to make use of a really windy day! I've only so far resorted to smaller ponds and lakes that are more protected when the wind gets rough. Great idea I have no doubt that if my Dad went on a dedicated fishing trip with me where he had time to learn to cast better, he'd stand a chance at outfishing me simply because..... he's been on this earth longer! He's got such a strong sense of the outdoors (hunter) Sounds like a wonderful time
  12. Seriously my last few times out, I start with a loud WOOOOOO!! Always gets me fired up and in the mood. Well, maybe we can save talk about Richard Gene for another thread. He definitely deserves his own if one hasnt been created already
  13. Wish I could like this twice. Love Mr. Richard Gene Mean no disrespect to you @gimruis by saying this though. I just had to respond cuz I love “the fishing machine.” im still trying to figure out fall too, man
  14. I have to find out when that color will work for me, if it ever will. I have thrown it at least a few times to try it and it won’t outproduce other colors for me, even while throwing the same spinnerbait
  15. Catt complicating?? Nonsense! does seem fairly simple to me ?
  16. That’s something that I know I should be throwing. I have one pack for larger sized worms. maybe when I can stop throwing spinnerbaits I’ll take the time to learn the good old jig head worm
  17. I'll go with the hottest lure for me right now if we are talking strictly lures. Booyah Covert Double Indiana spinnerbait. Color is up to you, I fish the white one. I seriously have thrown that bait like 85% of the time my last several times out. It's a fish catcher for me. Fish it slow, a low gear ratio helps.
  18. This made me chuckle. Great post, thank you Phil
  19. Oh shoot. They used to hologram coat those things? That’s pretty cool. Like this? Or is this baitfish painted style like you were talking about?
  20. I’m getting the impression I really need to look into painted blades. one time I painted spinner blades with fingernail polish and went spinnerbaiting on a highly pressured, super clear reservoir. That spinnerbait is one of the only ones that I’ve had that got bit on that reservoir. @WRB Those holographic blades seem so hard to find these days! I know Nichols has it for their willow spinnerbaits but I don’t ever throw willows anymore, unless grass totally demands it. For like a single willow
  21. Might be a regional thing for me. Back home in NC, there really are days like you said where spinnerbaits work and days they don’t. But I fish some relatively unpressured ponds here in NY and it seems like they will literally always bite a spinnerbait. Is this because I’ve gotten better with a spinnerbait? We will find out next time I’m home.
  22. @papajoe222 suggested in a related spinnerbait thread that we should talk spinnerbait blade colors. Not one to disappoint, here it is. Chrome/nickel, gold, copper, painted. Where do each of these supposedly excel? This has been posted before but hey I just love talking spinnerbaits and it was requested. If anyone wants to know my opinion, it’s that the first rule is that there are no rules to this. The bass do what the bass do. But, I think chrome/nickel blades work in more situations for me in this clear NY water. They seem to work really well when it’s sunny out but also quite well while it’s cloudy. They further seem more able to match better with more skirt colors. Gold blades seem to seriously excel anytime it’s cloudy out, especially when combined with some chartreuse in the skirt. haven’t thrown copper or painted enough to speak about that what say you?
  23. I’ve done some light messing around with blade styles including mostly hammered and fluted. I haven’t found a situation so far where hammered seemed to do better than smooth blades. But there really might be something up with fluted blades. I really do seem to get better bites on them. It’s probably just in my head though and a reflection of me being a spinnerbait geek. Always looking for that next awesome combination. It’s an awesome hobby As the kids say these days, “Bet”
