  1. @thediscochef you’re a humble guy and you’ve got a real knack for finding some ditch pickles on those red eye shads and spooks you love so much
  2. Google Earth, sonar, and eyeballs to notice bait or bird activity. I look obsessively for hard(er) bottom, especially when surrounded by softer bottom.
  3. I try to avoid dock talk but I will listen to someone giving advice. A few weeks ago, a former guide needed help with his truck at the ramp because he had a disability. After I helped him, we engaged in conversation about how the lake was fishing. I didn’t know at first that he used to guide on the lake. But, I decided quickly that he knew what he was talking about. He shared some advice with me. I soaked up every word. That situation is more the exception rather than the norm. Most of the time, I will listen to others but I don’t follow their advice. I believe it is usually better to fish for your own fish.
  4. For more extended periods of time Ive fished North Carolina, Missouri, Texas, and New York. For a small period I fished Michigan
  5. Hey y’all, In some situations I’ve thought it may be beneficial to lighten my leader line for shaky head fishing. I am wondering if you all think I can get away with 10lb braid to 8lb leader line and a ML spinning rod if I’m using a roboworm on an owner twistlock shaky head. How much force do you think it takes to get that hook through a roboworm and into a fishes mouth? About how tight would you set your drag? I would be skin hooking the roboworm. Would you instead use a Medium spinning rod for this? I will have to play around with this but I appreciate any suggestions.
  6. Okay. I appreciate the info properly ID'ing my fish! They are fun. I might keep a mepps around or two and toss it if I see a group of these fish. I've had plenty chase and strike other lures before, but this is the first I've managed to get into the boat.
  7. My guess was spotted gar not shortnose gar? Not sure. I've got plenty to learn about gar.
  8. I got a gar. It was feisty in current. Gorgeous fish.
  9. A friend and I ventured to Devil's River near Del Rio, TX for Memorial Day's Weekend. We spent two nights camping, kayaking, and fishing the river and covered 15 miles - self-shuttling ourselves from our take-out and put-in points. Devil's River is beautiful. It is worth the effort to get out here and kayak and fish it. If anyone is interested in doing this, feel free to PM me because I learned a lot from the experience. The fishing was good but I would have approached it differently if I could have a do-over. We spent much more time paddling than fishing, as well. Nonetheless, we caught smallmouth, largemouth, and I got my first alligator gar. I will post my alligator gar in the other species catch thread. Here are some photos from our trip.
  10. Glenn’s Mercer on occasion Bass After Dark on occasion Anything Greg Hackney Anything Lee Livesay Anything Steve Kennedy Tactical Bassin sometimes if I want a bait recommendation I watch less bass fishing youtube than I used to. 11. If a weeknight trip happens it’s about 1-2 hours. On a weekend I shoot for 10+ hours in a trip
  12. I must bring order to a world of chaos. If I let colors interbreed, what monster am I?
  13. I try to look a week or so in advance nowadays. I pay attention to trends or changes. If the wind has been blowing strongly in one direction for multiple days, that’s information I want to know. It absolutely will affect where I choose to fish
  14. And more power to you But the bait monkey is definitely bunking with you
  15. When they stop going head over heels for Dior cologne scented baits
  16. I can see a place for glide baits in the late fall when they really get their feed bags on, but if I start considering outlandishly expensive ones, I’ve gone off the rails
  17. He’s going to tell me I need to try ned rigs isn’t he? Silly monkey
  18. Bait monkey has been on a streak of great ideas this year. Everything he’s told me I need to try has worked out favorably
  19. Nah, not really. I go jeans with flip flops and a camo or plain tee many days
  20. I would like to publicly apologize. I did not realize that the wire tied skirt allows for a small gap where the skirt band normally goes that you can use to hold your plastic trailers. A zoom split tail sits on there. I will put this bait in the water and give my thoughts on it this weekend.
  21. Spro 65 walks good. So does the Scum Frog Dog Walker. I couldn’t walk a frog until I became a frog. Now I just do ribbit and hope for ribbit all ribbit ribbit there RIBBIT
