  1. X2 .. 5yrs. time to send it in for service!
  2. Good find anyway you look at it... http://www.basspro.com/Shimano-Sedona-FD-Spinning-Reels/product/10203500/ http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4051963 Tight Lines!
  3. Very Much Agree
  4. only thing on that reel that comes into play during casting is the bearing packs (in the spool), the centrifical brakes (white blocks), and idler/worm gears to drive the line carriage. Have you checked both bearings for the noise? Are your centrifical blocks lose enough to come off? Have you checked the white idler gear under the palming side plate for a bad tooth? Have you checked the worm gear as the pawl passes over it, could there be a nick in the slots. The last resort would be check the engagement tips of the brake block ring and pinion engagement slots, see if there is some wear/rubbing, the pinion yoke may not be lifting the pinion/base (w/engagment slots) far enough to clear those engagement tips. As the spool spins they could be hit by the pinion engagement slots.. Just a couple of place to look at.... Good luck & Tight Lines!
  5. Capt.Bob is right on. That reel has the old black rubber friction ring that can stretch and get balled up under the rotor and cause a binding. Most anglers remove it and think they have fixed the issue when in fact they have caused another. The rotor gets so lose/free that just the weight of the crank can slam home the bail. I would suggest send it in.... Tight Lines All!
  6. You might check the bail trip lever also...
  7. No arguments there..... I only shared what I FOUND from factory NIB reels.....
  8. No issue's other than being lose feeling like the posters issue. I just opened 3 boxs of Citica 200G6' for a client, broke into the reels and NO grease on the pads!
  9. That spacer is teflon coated (reason for the gray side).. Gray side up it helps keep the nut from free turning and loseing adjustment....
  10. Nope the (BNT3241) drags stay dry no grease should be on those pads....
  11. Actually there is no max lockdown (direct drive) on any Shimano reel (that I know of), at least not since their 1972 dedicated flipping reel "Brush Buster 10" In my 28yrs servicing, I have never seen a set of drag spring washer completly flattened. Micky Mouse Fix: You can add some spring to them by mounting the spring into a vise and tapping lightly with a small hammer until you get a slight cupping, then mount in the proper orientation ().... Proper/Best Fix: Get new ones! I would also be checking the top of the AR bearing to make sure it isn't damaged from gouging... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  12. NO...I know they don't Most rebuild kits if you find any, will have been put together by service techs that only brake reels down to a certian degree. A good service tech will brake a reel down completly "Nothing on the set plate".. "I used to race RC cars and learned "a little" can mean "a lot" when it comes to small gears/parts/shafts/etc." Then you do know to have the schematic in front of you when you start to tinkering....... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  13. Basic cleaning? To properly clean that module you need to remove it from the reel, which means proper full service no quick way around it...............
  14. Nope any kind of metal shavings is NOT normal any time. There are no shims under the drag star they are called drag spring washers.... Most likely they were originaly installed like so..)( this installation will cause the bottom drag washers edge to dig into the upper edge of the one-way (AR) bearing pack. This will cause metal shavings to be peeled and distrubuted around the crank shaft, and cause a slight play. Proper way to install drag spring washers is ()....... If I were you I would not do another thing to the reel until you get the reel schematic out and look at how the parts are supposed to be installed, or send it to a pro and have it worked properly.... FYI the reel has max drags of 11lb.............are U using braid? Tight Lines!
  15. X2... Yea what's the tip action & lure weight of the rod?
  16. X2 Not just long slender needle nose pliers, but 6.25" forceps.....http://www.basspro.com/White-River-Fly-Shop-Stainless-Steel-Straight-Forceps/product/29348/#desc-tab Tight Lines All!
  17. X2... I have seen guys in big box stores spooling line, place to much tension on the line and actually cut graphite spare spools in half... I always spool line on my spinning gear with the spool on the reel and rod mounted...
  18. I have always just fed the line through the level wind and tied (arbor knot) to the spools arbor, must be from spooling up all my Garcia round reels. I would say there is no right or wrong way to take care of the job, whatever your comfortable with....... Tight Lines All!
  19. Ahoy AmateurAngler86.... "Looking forward to getting some new tips and mingling with all the other anglers on here" Welcome to the forums, lots of great info is located here, and the forum search engine is tops... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  20. X2... Thats why I switched to count down cranks. Cast to the spot count down as it sinks and start a stopngo cranking, and hold on. Been doing this since I became bank bound, works for me... Just a thought... Tight Lines!
  21. As stated before there is absolutly nothing wrong with classic reels. They all can be fished, but taking into consideration that it's a buggaboo to find proper parts to support any issues. The reel/s IMO should find a place in memory lane down in the man cave, and newer supportable reels begin to take their place in the arsenal... Tight Lines All!
  22. X4... "However, reviews by tackletour have occasionally mentioned certain reels aiding in accuracy." can you say sales pitch? A properly balanced system (rod, reel, line, lure) is the key to accuracy... Oh forgot to mention...Lots of practice, practice, practice...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
