  1. Very nice work! Would have also looked great on a lefty..... Tight Lines!
  2. He just sates in the write up that he mounted Fuji Alconites did say abot the series. He even has the rattle that can be mounted.. I like the fact that he states he like building extreme custom rods, obviously found a nitch of his own.. Tight Lines!
  3. NO! The breakin period (1 yr warrenty) covers anything that will come up. Once past the 1 season (yr) mark then yes have the reel deep service... Tight Lines!
  4. As a custom rod builder my opinion is. While not really comfortably fishable, it could be fished. The seller/builder has imo a lot of hours in this rod. In the custom rod world this rod would/could be included in a lot of collections. A lot of the replies here don't take into consideration that this is a collector rod, not your everyday under a 100$ rack rod......
  5. Been power hand fishing since the term was coined in the early 80's (30yrs). My strong side is right hand therefor the rod is placed in the power hand (right hand), and the reel cranks from the left hand side. Is one of the best techniques for quick hook sets on fast hitting fish if have ever used.. Tight Lines All!
  6. Use to run into this when we were servicing plastic graphite/non metal framed/sidewall reels looooong time ago. They would break in one way, then after you dis-assemble, they would never go back exactly how they broke in (smooth/free). As mfg's improved side plates, and frames andinternals the reel/s would hold most of the tolerances they had at assembly time, making the re-assembly after service easier... Now a days no problem. Just this service techs .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  7. X2.........Big time!...... Tight Lines All!
  8. 8 Curado CU201B's @ 50$ ea...................... Tight Lines!
  9. IMPO as a custom builder, I think the 6'9" - 6'11" would work for you depending on your actual heigth. For pitching depending on the target cover light/open cover I would consider no lighter than a med hvy power (back bone) with fast tip actions. For heavier (thick stumps etc) type cover I would consider no less than hvy power (back bone) with mod fast tip actions. Especially if using braided line (no stretch)..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!
  10. All of my older Quantum reel were crap, most still are.....
  11. Or during the day with your eyes closed/blindfolded....... Tight Lines All!
  12. Up I have a pic of a delamiated cork grip as you describe, from a Falcon rod...... Tight Lines!
  13. Just checked my source (Bingham Ent.) for cork..... A- (1-1/4" x 1/2" x 1/4") .95ea. AA- (1-1/4" x 1/2" x 1/4") $2.25 ea. AAA- (1-1/4" x 1/2" x 1/4") $3.25 ea. 1" = $13.00 But if you take those price's X4 to equal the inch your talking about it is much more expensive than you think.. They can't even find AAAA grade cork any longer from their suppliers....The cork groves in Portugal are heavly depleted... Tight Lines All!
  14. As I stated on my custom spinning rods because I also use a split seat configuration. I also stated.. Tight Lines!
  15. Besides the 1-2 gram weight lose, the split grip on spinning rod setups has on my builds increased the senativity. On bait casting rods mostly a weight reduction and slight sensativity increase... But these are on custom rods, in the rack rod world (store bought) I would say the only thing you are getting for the extra $$$ is the weight reduction.... No rod mfg takes the time to build in the sensativity like custom... Tight Lines!!!
  16. I have worked a lot of Chronarch' and no that isn't normal. You should have slight to none when the star is losened all the way. They should progressively get tighter and you turn the star down. I have seen CH's that have had the drag spring washer's installed in the wrong orientation and cause this same issue. You might check them...wrong )(, right ().... Tight Lines!
  17. There is a fix for that........ It's called working with the reels schematic, they show you were every part goes..... Tight Lines!
  18. Like Capt.Bob stated in the upper colder northern waters, you need to watch what lubrication's you use and were you use it in the reel/s.. Tight Lines All!
  19. For me to post my entire routine would take at least 3 scrolls of a page here (not enough key strokes allowed)..... There are tons of books, videos, classes, online if you take the time to look.. Tight Lines!
  20. If the reel isn't a salt ready reel, then make sure to have the reel fw rinsed then deep cleaned to make sure all salt is removed each time out. If the trip is a 2-3 day outing have the reel/s serviced as soon as the trip is over (no matter what kind of reel). Never let a fw reel that isn't built for salt sit/store without complete cleaning and relube first. If the reel is approved for salt then deep servicing once/twice a season should be fine.... Tight Lines!
  21. This myth about factories packing reels with grease, just isn't true.... Grease is used in some instances as a parts holder, in other instances it is use in the bearings, and other areas of the reel to protect from moisture during a long boat ride to the US, and storage at the distributors. When a reel is sent back to the mfg. for a warrenty maintain/service the reels are cleaned and properly lubricated. I'm sure here all of the service techs only use proper lubrication techniques.... Tight Lines!
  22. Right On Capt.Bob...... Back when all this silliness started with ABEC tolerances and bearing upgrades, I learned that the 7's (especially ceramics) were made for RC, sewing machine, and other super high speed motors (10,000rpm) or better. We i'm sure there isn't to many bc reels out there that can get the spool rotations up to that speed. We never suggest to our clients any bearing upgrades over the ABEC5 stainless steel's, and only when the stocks get really rough or stop rotating all together. Never had anyone say they weren't pleased with the 5's. Tight Lines!
  23. Yup mostly noise and the need to lubricate more often... Went back to Stainless Steel real quick, imo no need for anything else... Tight Lines All!
