Here's a thought. In my 28 yrs of servicing reels, I have found no 2 reels brake in and act/feel the same. Each will have some tolerance differances and will brake in differantly. When you compare reels always try to compare apples to apples. You could send them in for tuning it will help some, but even then each will act/feel differently, even using the exact tuning technique on each..... I have found a properly balanced system reel, rod, line, lure, all within the ratings will help alot Just an old service techs .02¢ Tight Lines!

Light reel oil swab in both (NO GREASE), use a wetted q-tip........... Tight Lines!

The average rack rod can run 3.0 - 5.0 oz., most custom rods can run 4.0 down to 3.0 oz.

Standard guide on a spinning rod, you don't have to worry about using more guides on a SP rod the line always falls away from the blank anyway. The weight saved using micro guides is very slight at best..Mostly used as marketing hype, for rack rods... Tight Lines!

First off you talk to a custom rod builder, and, he isn't a java run script on a website page. The process is a lot more personal than that. All you have learned there is what it could run you. As a retired custom rod builder I would have to measure the hands on a client, ask a 100 differant question about grips, guides seats, angling style, techniques the rod is to be used for, balance, etc.. Have the client handle some of my builds etc. So IMPO take a look in your phone book if you still have one, for the local small mom/pop tackle shop for a local custom builder. You might consider a rod with a Tenn. grip, more adjustment of balance then a fixed reel seat.. Just a thought....

OK first off you need the reels schematic!! never open a reel without one..... The pinion yoke is the white nylon part that the pinion gear sits in, and, it looks fine to me. What I don't see in the picture you provided is the pair (2 drag spring washers), without them mounted ontop of the AR inner-sleve You will not have the proper pressure placed on the crank stack and the drags will not engage properly. They are the washers that are shape like so () make sure you place them as you see it here. Good Luck & Tight Lines!

IMPO If the reels aren't rated for SW don't use them!!! If you can not get around it, as soon as the tourney is done have the reels deep serviced. Then before you try another tourney in SW get into some SW rated gear... Just this service techs .02¢ Tight Lines!

Here are my questions as they relate to WD-40 and bass fishing: 1) Does it attract fish? <<<< Yes I have used it fishing for big cats in the fresh water lakes on the west coast, but then so did the chicken macnuggets I was sprying it on....LOL 2) Does it work well for lubricating reels?<<<< NO! Pros and Cons? <<<< There are no pros I have seen in my 30yrs servicing reels 3) If you spray your rod guides with WD-40, will it help you cast longer? <<<< NO! The proper system (rod/reel) setup will get you longer cast's 4) Will it keep your guides from freezing this time of year? <<<< It might, but why would you risk using this stuff for anything fishing..A catalitic heater will work better and faster..... 5) What is its effect on fishing line? <<<< It will screw the line up over time, use a good line conditioner made for it.....KVD comes to mind Good Luck & Tight Lines!

For the Quantum I would go direct to Quantum. For all kinds of reels I would recommend Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair....... Tight Lines!

Shane J Posted February 13 2013 - 03:45 PM I don't clean them right away. I will fish them for a couple weeks, then send them in for a thorough breakdown clean/lube. First it lets me know if there are any problems with the reel, and second, it sort of gives the reel a break in period. They do need to be done, even when they're new, though. ......

The AR probably has grease in it. No grease in the AR packs, light oil swab only.....

The cold could cause a sticky feel to reels. As far as the rod, I would worry more about the rod banging around in the trunk of my car then the cold. I would because the rod is the fragile part of the system make sure you check the rod for nicks etc., each time you want to use it... Tight Lines!
