  1. Start your drill down for info here...http://www.bassmaster.com/news/how-start-bass-club
  2. Oh ya tht would make it almost impossible to disengage the reel. ... The reel when cleaned was not put back together right and when the thumbar was depressed that when that pin failed. "Never open a new reel untill the warrenty is over" Also do not try to install that part if you have never done so, YOU will just screw it up more! Send it to MIke for servicing and to Shimano for warranty work.... Contact Shimano for parts here. Customer Service: 877-577-0600 5:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday Pacific Standard Time Tight Lines!
  3. Hve been servicing the Shimano line for 30+ yrs...... Have never had to replace any bearing with anything above an ABEC5... Tight Lines All!
  4. You don't need ABEC7' Try this.................. Set the brake blocks all off. Set your cast control cap lose enough (no side to side play) to let the lure drop to the ground/floor/water and the spool stops turning, then reset the brake blocks with 3 on 3 off . This is the only way to properly setup any reel with centrifical brakes. Make your first cast to check the casting, and adjust the brakes from that point only (not the cast control cap), never losen cap from the drop rate setting. The only time you will need to re-adjust the drop rate is if you change to a differant lure weight/size.. Just an ol service techs .02¢
  5. Actually the name bantam is derived from the city of Bantam - currently known as "Banten Province" or previously "Banten Residency" - once a major seaport, in Indonesia. European sailors restocking on live fowl for sea journeys found the small native breeds of chicken in Southeast Asia to be useful, and any such small poultry came to be known as a bantam. Shimano uses the name in their reel designators meaning small.... From Websters : Definition of BANTAM 1: small, diminutive 2: pertly combative Synonyms small, diminutive, dinky, dwarfish, fine, half-pint, Lilliputian, little, pint-size (or pint-sized), pocket, pocket-size (also pocket-sized), puny, pygmy, shrimpy, slight, smallish, subnormal, toylike, undersized (also undersize)
  6. I have 30+ yrs on them and am always learning... Practice, Practice , Practice, Practice...... Tight Lines!
  7. Actually the spiral wrap concept has been around since the turn of the last centery about 1902. A gentelman in NJ took the guides off of a metal rod (believed to be a Zebco) of the era, and remounted them to the bottom of the rod. It was scauffed at and ridiculed and placed on the back burner until Richard Roberts of KANSAS CITY started it all over again and re-introduced it in 1924. I was introduced to the Spiral Wrap in 1994, from a custom builder in Harrison Ark (Bobby Lowe), as a fool I stated it wouldn't fly. Well it wound up they were all I built for 14 yrs. As stated there is no real distance increase, just better tip loop control, it will increase sensetivity (dependant on the build style), but the biggest plus is rod stability...
  8. Time to have the reel serviced...........
  9. Here is my take on when (from my website), and why you should attempt to add weight to the butt (for a neutral balance) of your bass rods. "WHEN: Only if it will enhance the performance characteristics (usually sensitivity) of the rod for a particular technique". Tight Line Moving Lures Blades, Cranks, Buzz baits, etc. The rod is always loaded when using these lures. There isn't any amount of weight you can add to the butt that will neutral balance the weight and pull of the lure with these techniques (I would add weight ONLY for a requested balance point other than neutral). Flippin Sticks These long bass rods (7&1/2 & 8 ft) are always tip heavy and could use some weight to make them feel better. I would NEVER add weight to a Flippin Stick, they are already heavy enough....... Jump Lures Jigs, Worms, Spoons, etc. These are slack line techniques and tip heavy rods can be made more sensitive by adding weight to the butt. NOTE: If your using high end/high modules rods (GLX, SHX, RX8, SCV, etc.) for these techniques, there is little advantage to adding weight to a lightweight high-performance rod to enhance it's sensitivity. 10. Agree 100% and they did that to keep prying eyes out of the works by DYI people....
  11. They were great reels in their time. But they were discontinued in the late70's early 80's. There are no parts/support availible and those reels will not hold up to todays lines or fishing techniques. They were originaly trout reels 10's, 100's, 1000's, the name Bantam means (small). The were tooled right after the first Shimano Lew's were tooled, in the 70's.... Just an old service techs .02¢ Tight Lines!
  12. Agree 100%... Would also add shop around for your supplies Jann's, Bingham Ent., are a couple more suppliers to check out.... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!
  13. Yes I do. I mount it to a rod adjust the drop rate, and approx. brake setup. Then take it out and fish the crap out of it (called a break in period) for a full season. Then as soon as the warrenty is past and I have an idea of were the reel could be improved, I brake it down completly and do my tuneups and upgrades .... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  14. Mark, I use a small slot driver and lightly lift under the two black engagment tab pins on all of the rounds we have been upgrading/servicing. It will come off (slowly but surely), just make sure you replace it in the same place... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  15. X2... Wouldn't even try with holding the reel.. Send it to Mike (DVT)... Tight Lines!

  19. 2- 5'6" custom pistol grip casting rods for weightless jerks, and top water poppers.. All of my spinning gear goes from 6'6" up to 7'8" Tight Lines!
  20. All of the guides we service up in the Hawk Lake area's would say, because of the fish they go after and the technique/baits that they use....
