  1. check them with a slot driver using the blade to push slightly at the tip of the block pins to make sure they are seated all the way. Some will move over time have seen it on all the Curado series reels and some of the older Citica'. Your missing one of the brake blocks, If they are flush (no movement) set up your brakes like this: In an I - 2 blocks on four blocks off - Light Spool Brakeing In a Y - 3 blocks on 3 blocks off - Medium Spool Brakeing or an X - 4 blocks on 2 blocks off - Heavy Spool Brakeing..... Good Luck & Tight Lines
  2. Grease on gear teeth, oil on bearings and pawl, (level wind) worm gear. Some have adivsed using a combo oil/grease on the worm gear. Go ahead add grease to the worm gear and see how long it takes to have to replace the pawl, especially if the reel is fished heavly..... just an old service techs .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  3. Once those mags start to fall apart they are toast... Checking my EX500 schematic on my website. The part number I have is from June, 1996 when I was on the Quantum service team.... Part#: QW330-01 Magnet Plate Assy Give Quantum a call and check As Mike stated over 6 years old and no parts support... Good Luck & Tight Lines!
  4. HEAT!... We heated the house...
  5. X2... Not a simple fix at all.. But as mike stated, an have done myself..
  6. Welcome neighbor...
  7. Hootie, When all of a sudden your thinking about trigger position in the grip, it must have been a realy slow day stretching lines...
  8. The factory will never put out a full brake down, deep cleaning video. Mostly because they don't have the time to do each reel as the independants service shop do. That pile of reels is probably the 1000's of store returns they see. The actual warranty jobs are in the bags they only gave you a brief glance of in the vid. On my bench I can do 4 of the 200B series Curado's an 8hr day, and that is deep scrubbed/cleaned and polished were needed... Im almost sure Mike and probably JF follow just about the same routine... Good Luck & Tight Lines All!
  9. Thats is so basic that Mike should be laughing at it, I know I do everytime someone recommends it over a pro servicing. That is no way what a proper cleaning and servicing should be. Also to the poster $30.00 is way to high for a COMPLETE reel brake down and cleaning... This is an ok vid to basically spread old grease/oil and with new...I would never recommend this vid..
  10. Idle hands are a reels worst enemy..... The reels are brand new, the bearings don't need flushed until they brake in.. Rremove the shields now and I bet it kills the warranty on the reel.
  11. Hootie, you purchase a 20.00 bait and change the hooks for the better.. Now how does buying a duel braking system reel, and removing one system make that reel better..
  12. I agree 100% with just turn them off. Quantums you bet it will in some way change the reel, and probably not for the best.... But those comments begs me to ask. Why if your only into centrifical brake reels would you pruchase a duel braking system reel and strip it down to less than it was designed for? Just asking... and before the smart arse's chime in because you can...
  13. I love Shimano, but that 2 speed was one of the biggest peices of crap that I worked on in the early 90's. I even owned one, that is now in peices, in a parts bin...
  14. This is the best answere I have read here...OR Just take the rod/s to a good local mom & pop shop they will be able to replace it/them..
  15. Gotta ask this is it Quantum PT spinning reel? I ask because HotSause was created just for the PT (ProTune) hybrid teflon based bearing systems. I have seen it applied to Stainless Steel bearing packs, and flat throw the tolerances of them off...
  16. I'll send you some, I get at least 6 local yellow books a year....
  17. Have you ever checked the friction ring that sits right under the rotor, I have found it to be a real binding problem in all of Shimano spinning reels... The old black poly rings stretch out and will after a few cast start to ball up under the rotor. I would check there and if it is lose order a new one from Shimano it should be blue now and a differant material (silicon I think).. Good LUck & Tight Lines!
  18. I only service my spinning gear as needed and only after the reels warrenty has passed. One good deep brake down, deep clean and proper relube with a perma lube like the one Shimano uses is all that is needed, IMO. Basic yearly maintenance is all I use after that. I have a Cardinal from 1983 that has been serviced 2 times by me. It is smoother than most Stradic's I see.... Tight Lines All!!
