MARSH MASTER, Yea Lance Dupree and the guys, are regulars and advertisers on the rodbuilding.org forum... Did the guys discuss reading this book, Rod-Building Guide by Tom Kirkman it's only 14.95 and it WILL get you off on the right foot for sure. IMPO any rod builder pro or amateur should have that book in their library... Tight Wraps!
  2. HopelesslyAddicted, Your biggest mistake you have made so far is this statement ,"I am willing to spend what I need to get something good". LOL ;D Listen to these guys and you will be spending your next rent/mortgage payment on the BC system. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  3. chanrocks93, First your looking for a 2 piece rod for under $20, now your looking for a 2 piece rod under $30. You need to get out of your chair and get one of your parents to take you to Dicks or Wally World and actually look for one. Take your reel with you so you can try it on the rod and feel what it is like and whether or not it fits your hand and feels comfortable to you. Anything that you get that has to be mailed/shipped to you will cost you at least half your budget just in the shipping alone. Don't mean to sound to harsh but as a rod builder myself I have been following your post and you are getting nowhere I can see. I might also add the most important piece of equipment in a system is the rod. Good luck in your search...

Sorry I should have gone with my pat answer, first you need to do some reading before you start buying components it helps get you moving in the right directions. I would recommend if you haven't already, read the sticky in the top of this forum "Newbies with rod building questions". There is more info you will need as ejtaylor822 stated you will not find any building instructions in a kit.. Good Luck.....

    Thanks Keith...
  6. Very nice! I would give it a solid 10 . I'll bet if you showed that to your father, he would not let you have it back no matter what the power or tip action was. Again a very nice looking rod.. Get up the great work.. Tight Wraps!
  7. Gotta agree with RW. Locate a local service shop, NORTH CAROLINA T.I.'s Bait & Tackle 100 W Clark Street Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948 (252) 441-3166 or send it to me.
  8. Ouch! Now that is pure stupidity... ;D Karma is almost instant..... 8-) Tight Lines!!!!
  9. All reels I don't care who the MFG or the model is....

Yea I remember when the guys on the other board were working with Tharp on the split seats and the SHXi blanks failing between the 2 pieces, they (mfg's) have been playing with that idea of splitting seats for a long time. I tried them back in the 90's while Fuji was still producing them, personally I don't trust um... Tight Wraps!
  11. Yup sure have.. To many years fishing and working tournaments, and paying to much out to fish in foul weather. At 62 years young the early to the lake idea doesn't excited me any more. I sold the boat and took 4 years off and the only connection to fishing I had was the reel repair and the rod building when I came back into it, it is now at my pace and as a non boater only. Take a rest and see what happens.. Tight Lines!!!

Those seats are what use to be called skeleton seats. The ones used by the rod makers your looking at are either made for them or made by them using the ECS baitcasting seats. Checking the angler resource website (Fuji) they no longer make the skeleton casting seat they only make them for spinning rods.
  13. When it comes to the ABEC or AFAIK ratings true, it is the tolerances that the bearings are built to making them equal in that respect. When it comes to the materials used, most of that information is hidden from the GP (General Public) or is considered proprietary by each reel manufacturer. The only reel manufacturer's that I have seen that will call their bearings as far as materials used what they really are is Quantum® with their Polymer-stainless hybrid PT bearings meaning they are a ABEC3 tolerance rated plastic coated Stainless Steel, and some of the other reel manufacturer's CRB's (Again usually a coated Stainless Steel ABEC3 bearing). Tight Lines!!!!
  14. Yo B_u_r_l_e_y_,] Thought you would like to know..... The Shimano Calcutta has stock ABEC3 bearings in it. The Abu Garica Revo S, SX, and the STX, plus STX-HS all have stock ABEC3 bearings in them. Just my .02¢ from the bench..... Tight Lines!!!
  15. I wonder what you'll do to the new combo when YOU cast the lures into the tree's with that one. Sounds like a little anger management while fishing and casting pratice is needed on your part. Not the rod or the reels fault you don't pay attention to what your doing and wind up fishing 20' feet off of the ground/water.BTW you bent the bail wire on the other reel...... Oops! just checked your age in the profile I should have known.... : Just my .02¢ from the bench.
  16. dave, Your right they were in the wrong position when he replaced the crank side plate. Those 2 white blocks should be set to the spool center then the side plate is put in place. Those 2 blocks add weight to the spool and help in the braking of the spool on EVERY cast (no turning them off). Most of the major braking abilities of the older Garcia® Rounds, comes from the Cast Control and the educated thumb, very little from those blocks. Just my 2¢ from the bench.... Tight Lines!!!
  17. Yup and you could have saved some money by going ABEC5's instead (in ceramic or Stainless), and gotten the same results. The stock BB's are ABEC3..Just my 2¢ from the bench...
  18. Need more info on the rod.. If it is the 6' LRS601MH the lure rating is 1/4 thru 1 oz. You shouldn't be having any problems casting any weight at all on that stick. St00pid, don't take offense but are you sure it is a spinning rod. The only time I have ever heard of a casting problem with spinning tackle was when the angler had the spinning reel mounted to a rod with the wrong size stripper guide (the first guide off of the reel) or a casting rod, this will cause a reduction in casting distance... Just some thoughts from the bench... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  19. IMPO, I would say there is absolutely nothing wrong with the SF100H reel, cleaning and lubricating the bearings might help but that will come later..... The rod is a med power, fast tip action rod with a line rating of 6-15 lb., a lure rating of 1/4-3/4 oz. Understanding what the rod will handle is the important part of the system..... I learned BaitCasting on a 40$ reel 30years ago, and found out quickly it isn't the reel it's the rod that makes the system. I would as stated here, move to a 10 or 12 pound mono to practice on. make sure you have a practice weight of 1/2oz down to a 1/4oz.. Then recheck the article, and try again. If you are already doing so then your practicing with a well balanced outfit. Just my .02¢ from the bench... Keep Practicing.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  20. What is a thumb knob?????As a reel service tech I wish that all anglers would take the time to read the parts list for their reels and learn the proper wording for each part. I am assuming your talking about the crank paddles.. FYI, the so called bearing whine isn't in fact bearings, but the Infinite ACS braking system. It has and will always cause a whine when in high speed rotation on the beginning of a cast. As the blocks in the system become more rounded (the shape of the brake race) they tend to not sound off as much (break in so to speak). The reason it isn't bearings is that the Polymer-stainless hybrid PT bearing system used for spool support are proprietary poly coated (means only Quantum has them), and built to tighter tolerances than most stock "Stainless" bearing packs, they don't break in. Just my .02¢ from the bench.. Tight Lines & Enjoy The new Reel!
  21. Congrats Sam!!! Tight Lines & Well Deserved For Sure!

My first rod some 15+ years ago was a kit.
  23. Yup! unless you travel a lot and stop to take time to fish, then a quality 2 piece rod is worth every cent. Tight Lines!!!!
  24. Many store Re-brands, and Re-brand Signature reels, aren't supported by the host mfgr. They build them, then the store sells them, then your out of luck for service and parts. As suggested you will have to contact the store were the reel was purchased... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
