Curado best in show
And Daiwa® was copying Shimano® designs in the late 80's and early 90's : They all (the MFGR's) have been using each others designs for years... :

Baitcaster Reel
chanrocks93, Now were getting somewhere. That's a nice rod for your first. I would (if you can) move up to a 1/2 oz to start with. Re-read the article and make sure you have the reel setup right. Make sure that when you set the drop rate of the plug (cast control cap) so that when the plug hits the ground you get NO spool rotations at all, and I would go maybe just a little tighter even. Do this with your magnetic brakes turned off (to zero). Once you have that setup then to start set the mags back to about 4 on the dial. Now place a bucket about 10' from you in the open spaces I talked about, and start by placing that plug into the bucket with a easy side arm cast or even a easy roll cast. Almost like you do with your spinning gear. Keep this up until you feel comfortable doing it at this distance, (again don't rush yourself it does take time). Once you have that distance feeling comfortable then move the bucket about 5' and try again keep doing this until you reach a healthy 20' constantly. Oh I almost forgot do this with the wind to your back... There is never IMPO any need to make 50' 60' 70' 100' cast unless your into heavy cranks and swimbaits. Kevin VanDam says "Accuracy Is More Important Than Distance"... Thanks BassAkwards.... Let us know how your doing, and again don't rush things. You have a whole lot of fishing left in your life time.... Tight Lines!!!!

what is a 'clicker' on a spinning reel?
Some of the Garcia rounds do.....Mostly used on the larger Stripper and Salt reels...They call then line clickers.... Tight Lines!!!!

Calcuttas
Never will be discontinued. The Calcutta line up available today is the best of the best for round reels. How do you improve on a Digital cast control? The only thing I can think of would be someone to cast the reel for you just so you don't have to get up early to go.. LOL Just my .02¢ from the bench.. Tight Lines!!!!

Baitcaster Reel
chanrocks93, From what I'm gathering here you are in way to much of a hurry. You will not master BC reels over night (no matter how many of the anglers here say they have) I have over 30 years on BC reels and still get massive birds nest with my Curado's when I get in a hurry and don't pay attention to what I am doing. I would like you to take a close look at your rod and write down the lure rating and the line rating, plus the power rating (ie medium, medium heavy, or what). Now write down what weight practice plug are you throwing. Post that info, here. You aren't giving enough info about the most important part of your system the rod. Also you are probably not in a good area for practicing with the system. I don't like practicing in a back yard because of trees and bushes. Goto a wide open field or park or somewhere you don't have to worry about launching the practice plug into a tree. Also do NOT try to throw the plug a country mile. When i'm bank fishing most of my better fish come from areas right in front of me 10'. Now your going fishing tomorrow, don't take the BC reel with you. Take your spinning gear and just keep practicing with the BC system for now. You are really trying TO hard to keep up with anglers that have more time on BC systems than you do. Again don't be in a rush, it will come to you!!!! Just my .02¢ from the bench.... Tight Lines!!!!

what is a 'clicker' on a spinning reel?
The repairable clicker is the Oh hell. Take the spool off and look at the under side see the small clicker and spring it basically is the drag clicker... The manufacturers didn't make them so you could replace them, or place a new spring on them when the blew out. So now they probably have a part number... Tight Lines!!!!

Zero Brake Setting for Casting Reel
Pencil Pusher, Good for you. That sheet doesn't mean anything, maybe the one you have has them.. I'm not going to spar with you about this. I have held, fished, and serviced 4 of those gimmick reels. They were never on the line up list, and as far as today they wouldn't place anything over an ABEC3 BB in them, and would never be considered a "high end" reel.. Sorry for all the thread high jacking all. Tight Lines!

Best Pole for $20 and under
chanrocks93, Never use Vaseline on any reel, don't even get it near a reel (it is NOT a gear grease). Besides that you don't grease anything on the outside of the reel. One drop of a sewing machine type oil will work (temporarily), but you should get yourself some quality reel oil for doing your basic maintenance during the season. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Best Pole for $20 and under
Try one drop of reel oil (should be included in the reel box) into each crank paddle.

This is the way I enter the site evry time through the catalog... http://fish.shimano.com/catalog/fish/products/category.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302036590&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181270&bmUID=1161176550156

Abyone with a Skeet Reese Revo?
I don't own one, don't like the color or the price. Micro, I would really know how you know that!Take a closer look at the images, most of that mess is from mounting a wet paint job sideplate onto the frame. That is the spool race and there should not be any paint there (interferes with the clearance tolerances). Also most of the so called damage you say you see came from a scraper that was trying to clean the paint from the race in the QC area. I don't blame him at all for being disappointed... That reel should have never left the factory. Just my 2¢ from the bench. Tight Lines!!!

new curado gear ratio?
Just checked the site only D series reels there bud, can you provide a link. I'm on that site almost daily and haven't seen the reels yet. Shimano take for ever to upgrade the site after ICAST, and the new releases usually don't get to the site until they are actually stocked in retailers... Tight Lines!!!!

sinking poles
- Baitcasting, what a difference
shorefisher, Welcome to the forum! Most anglers come up from spinning gear and the baitcasting gear can sometimes be a little intimidating. Glad you found the article and hope it helped some.Keep practicing! Tight Lines!!- sinking poles
Yea that's the Blakemore® Rod Floaters : http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_16517_999034012_100000000_100004000_100-4-2 Never used one so can't comment any further... Would like to know why you keep losing rods in the water? Are the butt grips to slick?, do you have arthritis?, not paying attention to what your doing?, or just clumsy? Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!- Is this a good rod and reel?
The reel yes (it's a shimano), don't know that much about that rod (whole lot of smack talk in the write up). Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!- new curado gear ratio?
Yup only on the 300E and the 301E series 6.2:1 at a heavy 10.5 oz weight.... Were the Citica 200E and 201E series 6.2:1 at a more reasonable 7.8 oz weight.. Tight Lines!- spinning reel problem
I agree spool to full and using 10lb test on the 2500 (if that is your reel size) is at the high end of the reels line rating. I would drop down to 8 lb test or use a more flexible line maybe like XL, or even try a conditioner like the KVD conditioner. Just my 2¢ from the bench.. Tight Lines!- Zero Brake Setting for Casting Reel
Pencil Pusher,Sorry but I have to disagree..... They were made in 1998 basically a CT250, in a limited run of a 1000 to 3000. I had seen them back in 02 for sale on E-Bay from $250.00-$650.00, and I doubt that the bearings were anything more than ABEC3. The gimmick was the reels 5 bb count, unique color and case, and the run size. Even to days standard Calcutta's are only running ARB's in ABEC3 with only 3bb's. Same with the TE's only a few more BB's. Just my 2¢ from my bench. Tight Lines!!!!- new to baitcasters
anglermangler, Welcome to the forum! RW has given you some good advise, as well as the rest of the anglers here. I have been casting BC reels for over 30 years, and I agree with NBR "lots of practice makes you a bait caster" even I get professional over runs (big big BIG birdsnest) nowdays if I don't pay attention to what I am doing. So once you get the reel and rod dialed in keep the practicing up. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!- St. Croix Rod power rating
crypticstatic, As a rod builder that uses St Croix® blanks exclusively, moving from the factory Avid down to the factory Premier the biggest thing you will notice is the weight. The Premier blanks out weigh the Avid on an average of about a 1/4oz., as far as sensitivity the Avid will always out produce the Premier because of the guide styles being used Fuji® Alconite on the Avid® as apposed to Batson® Forecast aluminum-oxide on the Premier.. Just my 2¢ from the bench. Tight Lines!!!!- Storing Fishing Rod in Trunk
Tony, I have seen rods brought to me (DG Rod Works) for possible repair that were stored in the new tube storage systems on some boats, and they were twisted bad. I mean these were G-Loomis® GLX's and the guides looked like they had been spiral wrapped the rods were that twisted 4 of them. I told the owner to expedite them from G-Loomis® they were replaced. I have seen rods stored in tubes laying in the beds of trucks, in the trunks of cars. None of which held up to extreme heat, all had some kind of damage. I really can't say what your rods could do, I know that when I had my boat I removed all of my tackle (rod and reels) every time I parked it at the shop. I would take a temp reading of the trunk your storing them in when the sun is at it's highest point and on the car. If it is over the 100° mark I would say something is going to happen over a long exposer time frame Also as far as line tension, even if I were storing my rod/reel in my rack I remove the line and just wind it up onto the spool. With no line through the guides there is no chance of line tension. Rods fare better if they have no weight on them and are stored vertically. As far as winters go freezing temps are not good on graphite rods unless they are the composite styles that are use as ice fishing rods I don't have a whole lot of experience in that arena as here in Wichita when the temps get that cold everyone is thinking deer and beer and i'm buried up to my elbows in reels. Hope this helps a little.. Tight Lines!!!- Storing Fishing Rod in Trunk
Storing Fishing Rod in Trunk...Warning!! Placing a rod in a car trunk in the summer time (anytime actually), and storing it there with a bend. Will set that bend into the tip if left for any long period of time. If you want to know just how warm it gets in the trunk of a car place a meat thermometer in the trunk. I have measured the temps in trunks at around 200+°, I have measured temps on the black lined beds of truck at the same temps and more, I have measured the temps in the rod lockers on a boat (stored on the trailer) at well over 200°, while on the water into the upper 100° mark...these higher temps will cause major problems in a rods blank (the blank fibers turn liquid at 300+°) no matter the maker or price of the rod. One more point, it doesn't matter whether the rod is a 2 piece rod or a 1 piece rod, "never store the rod in an oven"... As far as travel you have received some great info on ways to carry a rod. Just my .02¢ as a rod builder. Tight Lines All!!- Fishing burn out?
Yup there it is. You now have your priorities in order.. Kudo' to you... Tight Lines At Your Pace!!!! - Baitcasting, what a difference
