The bearing game
Ok one on each side of the worm gear (=2), one in the side plate, one on the spool shaft (behind the pin), one under the cast control cap, one on the end of the crank shaft, two in each crank paddle...That's 10.....

Reel Cleaning
Jeff13, What brand of reel? If your nervous about breaking a reel down (complete service), then don't. There are some fine service shops in TX, or you can send it to me. As far as what your local shops charge I have no idea, mine is $16.95 for standard clean lube and tune up of a BC reel, $18.95 on SP reels.. Use the service form link in my tag line for more info...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

st.croix Triumph rod
The best way to figure out the differences between the two rods, would be when you go to get either rod, make sure you take the reel your going to use and ask permission from the store to mount the reel on each rod to be able to feel the differences in each system. That's the best way to pick..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

The bearing game
Being as I don't service Pflueger I can't compare the two reels. But with all of the other brands I do service I have never noticed anyone part being of better quality/materials over another. Tight Lines!!!!

The bearing game
Micro, The same can be said about where the bearings are made. All of the mfg's of bearings follow the ABEC scale. You can Google ABEC and find the article...Here is the just of it all.. Hope this helps some....... Oh BTW Shimano® purchases ball bearings form all over the world, the only ones made to their specs are the one way roller bearings in the AR and they are made in Japan. The bearing game
More bearings in a spinning reel help with the torque it takes between the crank, (oscillation gears), and the rotor, to get the rotor turning and the spool oscillating. The bearing counts that are used makes getting all this turning easier (especially on larger reels 3000 series and up). So in some cases more bearing count is better in spinning reels. When it comes to LP casting reels, the bearing count over 3 (spool support) is to clean up the feel of the crank. In round reels with engaged level winds more bearings will help with the casting efficiency of the reel. Because the spool rotation also drives the level wind... Now with all this said, you also have to take into account the weight factors that bearing counts bring into play. Mfg's are using ABEC3 tolerance bearings in the initial builds (all reels). In casting reels a slight edge can be had with a bearing upgrade to ABEC5 (no actual need to go higher except for ego). In spinning reels the mfg's are using quality built bearings, and the only thing that is needed is to keep them properly cleaned & lubed (using a quality lubricant)... It's really that simple.... Just my .02¢ from the bench.... Tight Lines All!!

Spincaster Broken??
Remove the front cap and check to see if the pickup pin on the rotor is working and actually picking up the line. Sounds like it might be sheared off.

Abu Garcia 6600 with medium heavy action rod?
The 6000 series and up Garcia's are mostly light to medium saltwater reels. The 5000 series makes for great catfish reels. The 4000 series is the workhorse bass reel from Garcia. I would look at a quality low profile reel (Revo) and a medium or medium heavy power rod for bass fishing, always try to keep the bass systems light weight as possible. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

Oh no! Reel broken!
I would recommend you contact Daiwa with the part number and order one.. Call 1-562-802-9589 for service. Customer Service is available 8AM to 4PM Pacific Time. Oh and BTW there are No Parts in any reels manufactured today that are guaranteed for life. Most all reels manufactured today are only warranted for one year from date of purchase.... Tight Lines!!!!

Who makes the BPS line of rods and reels
Same in this industry. You should see everything that Pure Fishing makes. Much of the "competition" are actually made by the same parent company. Whoa just a min. Were are you all getting your info from. Pure Fishing doesn't make anything it is a international corporate portfolio. More than one Major Manufacturer of tackle is listed under the Pure Fishing umbrella. Berkley, Garcia, Fenwick, Stren, Shakespeare, Penn, Pflueger, AllStar, etc. Tight Lines!

Who makes the BPS line of rods and reels
All of the rod and reel mfg's make re-brand reels/rods. So how ya going to know who makes what for who and as dodgeguy replied BTW Browning Fishing isn't owned by BPS.. (BPS only) is licensed by Browning Fishing to sell their fishing gear....Quantum use to be. Tight Lines All!

Expert opinions wanted, I would like new gear.
Excellent advise LBH... I will only add just this. Make sure you are looking at reels and rods that will cover the average lure and line weight that your going to be using. Plus the length will be affected by whether your bank bound or boating. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines All!

Revo stx-salt?
Thanks....Jake_P : LBH, I would say no problem. Rinse and dry the reel well, then re-lube the outside..... Reel Lubrication Question wouldn't a fresh water bait run and act differently in a salt environment, different buoyancy and all that? Tight Lines!!!!

What rod and reel did you catch your PB with?
Long Time Ago... 8-) A 10lb. Florida Strain LM, caught in 40' on Lake Poway, Poway CA (SD) with an old (89) Shimano® TX graphite spinning reel, on an old Shimano® Beastmaster 6'6" MLF rod, lined with 8lb. Dear Mr. BaitCaster
Vic, You can read the whole article here.....Basic Baitcast Reel Setup 101 Tight Lines!!!!

Dear Mr. BaitCaster
Sounds like the spool is turning faster than the lure is moving out. Set the brakes at zero then set the cast control so that you have to wiggle the rod to get the lure to fall, and the spool stops turning when the lure hits the ground/water. Then reset the brakes at about a 4 or 5 setting to start with. Never set the cast control with the brakes set at anything other than zero, you defeat the proper setup.

Split grip or Full grip?
I remember when Brad Tharp and a few other builders were using MH and H Shikäri blanks building them up with hand made split reel seats (skeleton type), and testing them by tying the free end of heavy line to a tree trunk and using a sweep setting like hook sets, and the rods would fail in between the split area on the reel seat. So to answer your question IMPO I would say YES there is a chance of the rod failing in between the sections of a split reel seat. I have tired the split seats that fuji makes (for spinning only) and have felt the rod blank flex in that area... The number one reason why I don't build with them BC or SP rods.... Tight Lines!!!!

Split grip or Full grip?
This is part of the point I keep trying to make. When it comes to a split grip (that is the all cork/foam section of the rod) it is for weight savings and balance help (on some rods). But with a custom builder it is all personal preference in what the customer wants in a rod. It is still a weight issue and balance thing with big rod mfg's. When we get into split reel seats (like the one posted by Raul) then it becomes a sensitivity issue, also with exposed (ECS) seats the same thing. More sensitivity comes from more angler contact with the blank. Thank You Muddy I think.... :-?Still don't know what a MOOK is... Tight Lines All!!

Quantum Accurist
mi_basser, Depending on how long you have had the reel, it sounds to me like the factory grease and oil is getting old and gummy. Again if the reel is a season old it is probably time to have it serviced. If you have never taken a reel apart don't start with an Accurist.... G3 Fan, I have seen that happen on Shimano Chronarch's that had the drags cinched down and the reel was getting to much reverse torque, and the drags wouldn't release... Mostly on Accurist' I have seen were the oneway bearing was actually turning in the receiver for the bearing pack, again because the drags weren't allowed to do the job right and the star was cinched down hard.. Good luck with the reel... Tight Lines!!!!

Tuning up used Curado bought off eBay
Don't worry about the series for the reel. All of the older 94 - 98 Curado's upgrade the same way. As a matter of fact you don't really need to upgrade anything if you know someone who can do a really good tune up. Good luck with the reel... Tight Lines!!!!

baitcasters (I love em!)
