  1. Each reel mfg use's different tolerances for stacking their crank/drag assemblies, and the ability to place the crank side plate over it with the one way rollers involved. Some times these tolerances give you more adjustment space than others, this is were you get the different adjustments on different reels. I don't service BPS reels, but I would imagine that this is probably the reason for the way the drags adjust... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  2. As a rod builder myself I agree with Alpster about heating and scraping the old epoxy off. This is also one of the reasons I don't advocate re-mods on older rods. It has always been easier to start fresh. One thing you can do to help with the over sized ID of the new grip would be to use dry wall fiberglass tape as an arbor when setting the new grip on. You are getting FLOR grade cork for free. You do know that it is very hard to find, that would be cork rings with NO pitting or fillers through out the ring (outside through to the inside). When it was readily available for sale it ran $3.00 to $4.00 a ring and you are getting it free, and using it on a re-mod...Well OK good luck would like to see pics when done..
  3. Yup here is a tighter shot of her flame work on that rod, I think she did a super job. She said she tried to make up for breaking my favorite spinnerbit rod.. Tight Wraps!!!
  4. Red, I agree with flechero on this. Send the rods in the tub a few days early insured and sig required to your old friend (with their knowledge of course). Even if the airlines were allowing rod tubes I wouldn't trust them with those (there to nice). Check it out through FedX or USPS. Tight Lines!!!
  5. Here is one I just finished up for myself about 2 weeks ago, after the wife closed my favorite spinner bait rod in the tailgate of the truck. Blank is a 2007 matte SC370MHF, it is bumper style wrapped to the left and is balanced slightly tip heavy for my Curado 201BSF. Used as my T-rig & Jig rod... Used Fuji Hardloy stripper and micro (5.5) fly guides, wrapped with Candy Apple thread and a single Silver inlay. The seat is a Fuji ECS trimmed to the Curado.. Seat Grip and Fighting Butt are custom turned out of Burnt Burl with Laguna accent rings, same for the fighting butt.. In this shot you get to see the some of the artwork that the Boss does in the split area's of my rods. This one is red and yellow flames, then the rods decals are placed. Now back to working the rods for my for sale page.... Tight Lines All !
  6. Now those are truly custom travel tubes. That's great work Red....... Tight Lines In NY!
  7. As a custom builder I can find no differences, they are supposedly more comfortable.. NO reel seat should be loose on the rod blank. Just my .02¢ from my rod bench. Tight Lines!!
  8. None of the magnesium based reels are a good idea in salt. Other than that any reel can basically be used in salt as long as attention to preventive maintenance is taken after each salty outing. Just my .02¢ from the bench. Tight Lines!!!
  9. Not sure about the line, but as long as the reel isn't dunked into the water I would say no problem. I use to practice spinnerbait retrieves and test new blade combos in the apartment complex pool in san deigo when I lived there. I changed line so often I can't say as to whether or not the chlorinated water had any effect on my line. Never had any problems with my reels... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!
  10. There are a couple of things that could be wrong, but they depend on how far you took the reel apart. With you not knowing the proper names or part numbers, it would be harder than needs to be to try and explain the procedures to you. I would recommend that you send it to Shimano®, or take it to a local service tech... Questions PM me. My .02¢ from the bench.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

  12. rod_long, There's the problem, Hot Sauce has never been a good oil to lube the spool support bearings with. I recommend that you re-clean all of your reels spool support bearings and re-lube with one drop each of a QUALITY bearing oil (like the one Abu provided), should take care of the lack of free spooling abilities....I use my S-L for weightless baits all the time Just my .02¢ from the bench. Tight Lines!!!
  13. Yup the parts in the return rachet plate area, are getting gunked up. 5 yrs. without any PM (preventive maintenance) and this is to be expected, get it completely serviced by a qualified service shop. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  14. As a rod builder I have found most rack rods use the following rear grip lengths. 5'6" rods use pistol to 6" length. 6' to 6'6" rods use a 7" to 8" length. 7' and up rods use a 9" to 11" lengths. Just my .02¢ from the rod bench. Tight Lines!
  15. Zel... Here is the way I look at servicing reels. When I get a reel in the shop, if it will (at my service price) cost more to clean and repair (service+parts) a reel then it cost to replace the reel (buy new), then I will suggest replace the reel to the customer. If the reel is over 7 years old, it is most likely discontinued (no parts available) and the reel most likely can't be repaired anyway. Just my .02¢ from the bench.... Tight Lines!

  18. bending throughout the rod, maximum bending located at about half the rod length, also know as slow action.
  19. booneangler, Nothing from Q could be a good thing... Here is something more to think about, the Shimano® anglers here are prematurely wetting their pants over speculation of something new from Shimano®. They don't know and nobody in the know (Shimano) isn't talking, so the BR anglers are doing it all for everyone else. Even the people in the know (Shimano) on TT's forum say nothing, and the anglers from here keep harping. So maybe nothing from Q is a good thing... Just my .02¢ from the bench.....
  20. The Flatulator = A person known for having extremely smelly and loud farts. Did take long to hughjack the thread... What does this have to do with this thread.. "So What Will Quantum Do Now?"

  22. Yup it is the power (backbone) rating on their SJ6400 to SJ720 spinning blanks..
  23. Thanks again RW.... PezJunkie, What make and model reels did you get? I have some DIY articles that might help you, check them out. If you have any questions PM me.... Tight Lines!!!!
  24. Thanks RW, interested in the drag pad upgrades for your CU201B check here... Drag & Bearing Upgrade Supplies.. I use the CT200 set in my CU201B, plus the upgraded ABEC5 3x10x4mm & 5x11x4mm spool support bearings. If you have any questions PM me.... Tight Lines!!
  25. I have been using BC reels since the early 80's and IMPO I don't think backlashes never really stop. If i'm not paying attention to what I am doing I can still get some massive backlashes, even on my most finely tuned reels. It is just the nature of the beast....Keep Practicing! Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
