  1. Dominion Dan, You think that Avid snapped easily, wait until you get a thin walled Legend in that situation.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  2. I't not a problem, it is called "Power Hand Casting". There is a book by Rich Forhan on the subject. I personally cast with my right hand and set the hook with my right hand, and crank ALL my reels with the left hand. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

flechero, Is right I do buy in the 32oz sets. I over looked that your syringes were pre-filled. If the instructions call for 3cc's ea. then use those measurements. I use the 5cc ea mixture because i'm not just coating guide wraps but building ramps and such, on split grip, no fore grip rods. I also don't hand mix I have a mixer, the reason I posted "don't stir always fold" your mixture. Tight Wraps!!!!

Thanks Muddy, and Alpster. Yeah Muddy that would be a bummer especially as nice as that Garcia® is now.... Smoooooth with butt load's of free spool, your going to have to relearn how to use it...... Alpster, have you been keeping the lines tight? and catching all thought biguns as of late?? Tight Lines All!!!!

Yeah FlexCoat HighBuild is what I have been using since I started building. DG Rod Works I also use the FlexCoat Rod Builders Epoxy for gluing up my burl rings for turning, and mounting all my grips and seats. Great stuff. A tip for you when you start mixing the finish, always mix a 10CC amount (5cc's each), and don't stir, always fold just like making cake batter. You will have less bubbles in the finish. Tight Wraps!!!

Oh that........... : Nope same person here. That user name was dumped in the software move somehow. They couldn't restore the user name, and couldn't remove my stickies... :-? So my original user name was picked up... 8-) If you need anything.... See you in Tacklemaking and Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, Leaders, and Knots. Tight Lines!!!!

Who says?? News to me 8-)
  8. BassinWill301, As a rod builder I would take a Q-tip and wipe the shock ring, if any fibers show up then I would no longer use the rod. If in doubt, I would return the rod and not take the chance.. I would contact Reeds first to see what there policies are, if not back to them then straight back to the mfg. St.Croix® Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  9. basser89, Thanks basser. It is the same as the Shimano oil, and the grease is a Lithium. Oils & Greasesearoach, Keep that crap in the trash can. You don't spray silicones into a reel.....Ballistik, If your talking about the white Drag grease from Shimano it isn't a gear grease it is used on the drag pads (Shimano® Drag Grease)... That's is a lot of anglers opinions on the stuff except is very light (viscosity wise)and will have to be repeated quite often during the season..searoach, Oil for bearings only (one Drop max). Grease for main and pinion gears. Push the grease down into the teeth base.. Thats it, nowhere else....Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!!

Red, Good looking grip. Keith has gotten really good, and has come a long way in a short time. Good luck on your next, and your next, and your next rod/s. Oh did I mention it's very addictive.... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!!!!
  11. Nope you don't. I don't crank that much anymore, but when I am using deep divers like DD22 etc. 3.8:1, and for mid cranks 10' or less like traps, small fat bodies, etc. 5.1:1.... As stated helps slow me down, I hate trying to slow down a 6.2:1 or higher mostly use those on C-rigs, Jigs, and, T-rigs... Tight Lines!!!!
  12. IMPO don't try to understand it. Just use what you can afford these days, and what you feel good with.... Tight Lines!!!!
  13. IMPO it depends on what structure your fishing as to how important a BC setup is. For example heavy wooded or grass cover and I personally think your in trouble using a SP setup. Fishing open deep water you can go either way etc... So it really depends on the structure your fishing, as to how important any setup is. Not to high jack here but TruflShufl.. Visited your blogg and you need a little more contrast on the page, (black background and dark fonts are not conducive to good reading).... Tight Lines!!!!
  14. Dominion Dan, I don't think so...LL Bean, Alibris, The Lake Shop, LLC, and a couple of ther shops are selling them....Do a Google search....
  15. Shimano's, Quantum's, Garcia's.....
  16. Yeah basically the problem I've described, is that 2 side by side blocks couldn't be locked into the off positions, the pins didn't have the small dimple that locks the pins in the off position. This was on 2 of the 3 reels he had.. I might also add that the 2 reels that had the issues, were purchased from the same store, and the one without any issues was purchased from a different store. IMPO: If you have any issue/s with a reel (no matter the mfg) right out of the box, return it to the mfg for warranty replacement. I don't like taking them back to the retailer because they have a tendency to wind right back up on the shelf for sale. Tight Lines!!!!!
  17. Popularity has it's cost I guess. Trying to keep them in stock may be costing them a quality issue in a place in the reels that needs to be first at QA.. Tight Lines!!!!!
  18. The Reel Mechanic isn't a Pflueger fan........ 8-) Micro, If your referring to a bearing pack set into a metal side plate, and a corrosion problem with the outer edge of the bearing pack. It's possible.. But I would have to say more so if the reel is used in a salty environment, or stored in a damp area and left wet. But even at that it can be prevented by a grease wipe down in the area that is affected, once cleaned up... I don't service Pflueger so I can't say for sure..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  19. Just the other day I had a friend come in with 3 Revo SL's for me to look at. Well as I took each one out of the box to check the brake settings, I noticed that 2 of the brakes side by side were set to on or so it looked, I tried to set them to off with no luck, the pin that they were on didn't have the slight high points that lock the blocks in the off position. I found this on 2 of the 3 reels, again brand new right out of the box's. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, on their new reels, and, I don't know if the factory is aware of yet. Boett43, You might want to take a real close look and see if you have the same problem.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. Yeah being 61 myself I'm starting to find just how tough it is to stand (in boat or on bank) for very long trying to make my spots.. Again as stated no offence intended...... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  21. NBR Again No offence intended. Lets see we are in the year 2008, 60 years huh, you started throwing BC reels in 1948 (I was 2 when you started casting Knuckle Busters) you must be in your oh lets see 70's maybe 80's. I'll bet you have a hard time even standing to try and make a 30 yard cast..Man there is a lot of BS shooting in this thread........ There is an old saying if an anglers mouth is moving, it is usually a fish tale......
  22. If your such a diehard Abu fan then why not look into the Revo's much better reels than the PT's Just my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  23. Nothing it isn't fixed it is cut up......
  24. A lot more forgiving than the SC3, 4, and 5's, on misuse..... I build on the SC2 (Premier) blanks all the time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the blanks. It's all in the components that St.Croix® use. When I build on the SC2 blanks I use Fuji® Hardloy guides. The St Croix® Premier's use Batson Forecast hard aluminum-oxide guides. Probably the reason so many of the Premiers get a bad rap for guide failures. Tight Lines!!!!
  25. One thing I have found though with the sealer on a new rod grip is that it can show the fillers (causes a color shift in the filler areas) in some new grips. Would be wise to test on a small section of the grip to see if you like it. But then as flechero and myself have stated that's why we build with burl's, no fillers and more density to help with balance (by positioning). Tight Lines!!!!
