  1. You're not the only one. Too early in the morning for this stuff.
  2. Personally, I think he's nuts!
  3. Anything red bleeds a lot.
  4. Forget the scientific reasons for owning different rods for different apps, WHAT FUN IS THERE IN ONLY OWNING ONE ROD???
  5. I think my GM is pretty well stocked on a lot of stuff. Good selection of rods, combos, plastics, etc. Customer service seems good, I've even engaged one of the salesmen in conversation regarding techniques. Seemed very willing to talk. Sometimes, I'm just browsing and want to be left alone. No complaints except their prices are a little high on some things.
  6. I am posting an update here as well. Went to the pond again last evening and tried again. I was only there 45 minutes and I caught 2 crappies and 8 bass. Not to say other baits wouldn't have worked, but these sure were. Again, my only real complaint is they are getting ripped up pretty easily. I probably lost 4 again last night. The thought has also occurred to me that I may be showing these fish something they haven't seen before. I think I will give the 5" leeches a try next.
  7. if you can find them, the Rapala Sportsman Classic.
  8. Thanks for flying Hawk Airlines.
  9. Walked up to the local pond this evening. Only took 1 rod, a pink 1/8 jig and some Gulp Alive leeches. I wasn't sure how well this was going to work since the pond is very weedy right now but I thought maybe I could swim the leech just under the surface and above the weeds. It worked quite well. Caught 5 bass in less than 1 hour. None were real big but they were all fun to catch. They hit the jig quickly and fairly hard. The only problem was I lost 4 leeches, 2 to the bass and 2 to bluegills that that were very aggressive towards them. Even though Gulp says they are a very sturdy bait, especially when it comes to gills, when that bluegill has the leech in his mouth, don't try and rip it out, you'll pull the back half of the bait off. Unfortunately with this loss rate, makes the Gulp stuff more expensive than Senkos :'( Caught a nice Striped bass on Pymatuning last week as well with a 3" leech on a gold Erie Dearie. Anybody else had any luck with these?
  10. Where do you find them? I just threw away a pair of cheap pliers the other day because I was so frustrated with them. After they shot a couple of split rings across the garage, into the trash they went.
  11. Always take a jar of Vaseline with you when you fill up. ;D
  12. Golden Wing was the other name. Seemed like nice rods. I will check closer on the price, see how it compares with the newer rods. I do remember seeing the Iron Hawk as an IM6, which I guess puts it in an entry level class along with the Eagle.
  13. I noticed 2 new Fenwick models at Gander Mountain the other day. One was an Iron Hawk and the other a Golden something or other, sorry I can't remember the exact name. I don't see anything about them on the Fenwick website. Are these older models or something new. I like Fenwicks and I was just curious if anyone knew anything about them.
  14. Congrats. I have yet to catch my first Muskie but I'm working in it. What color was the Mepps?
  15. I'm with five.bass.limit. The U.S. isn't any of those other countries. We have states that are bigger than some of those countries. Our infra-structure is vastly different. This is, was, and always will be the greatest country on earth, so let's quit making oil a dirty word, and get back to making this country grow. I think Brian's price to OPEC countries for American crude is a little high. I'd knock about $10 off that price. That'd be about right.
  16. Commodity prices are all very volatile and oil is no different. When prices go up, the media scrambles for a reason, something or someone to blame. When prices fall, it's usually not big news. 8-) I really believe the media has had a lot to do with the price increases. They "report" oil price rises and "predict" gas will be x number of dollars by this date, thus creating a self fulfilling prophecy.
  17. Very nice fish, I'm jealous! Did you measure its length? The reason I ask is because my son caught the largest smallie he ever caught last evening and we measured it at 18". Have no idea of the weight though. His didn't fight much either. BTW, I jealous of him too! ;D Congrats.
  18. Favorite beer?........an open one!
  19. Talk about the living dead. Nightmares for sure tonight.
  20. I don't think I've caught anything on them. I bought 2 packs last year on sale. Closing them out???
  21. Tree huggers and the "Not -In-My-Backyarders" Oh, EPA regs have had a lot to do with why we haven't built any. And limited refining capacity keeps the price up, so why bother?
