Gander Mtn E Glass crankbait rod
Does anybody use this rod or have any knowledge of it? Seems a little "whippy" at the tip. How does it cast? How is the sensitivity? They carry both a 7' MH crankbait and a 6'6' M crankbait.

Extra Fast Action
I am currently considering the Shimano Clarus in a Medium power, MF action for a cranking rod. Considering putting my Abu Revo SC on it.

Jumping minnows? mating or being eaten??
They were jumping last evening on my local reservoir, but nothing would hit what I had with me, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and some tubes.

Rapala Rods
I have a ML spinning 6'6" Very nice rod. Light weight, casts well, good sensitivity, comfortable hump on the grip. I think I would buy more but i can't find them. I also ahve an 5' UL I got at Wally Mart on closeout for about $10. Fitted it with a cheap daiwa reel and some 10# braid (2# dia.) and use it for the real small lures.

WD-40
I believe that's all it is... a rumor or urban legend. It is, none the less, supposed to attract fish. I may give it a try next time the bite is hard.

Re: Rod/Reel poll
I don't think I can vote. I own at least one of each of the top four listed, and I don't have any issues with or enough long term experience with them to offer any relevant opinion.

My first Northern Pike
Congratulations! They are a blast to catch. I've taken a couple of 25 and 26 inch ones out of our river in the last week or so, and I've gotten more interested in learning to catch them. I've read that a Pike's #1 favorite bait is a spinner although I had a big one hit a pearl Slug-Go. Unfortunately he took it down and broke off. But he put up a fight while he was on. Have fun catching them!

All Fishing Equipment Stolen
Just unbelievable how low some people will go. Which is why I have no tolerance for people who do drugs. That's too hard. Its easier to steal from people who have a job and work hard. Besides, most of these guys probably have rap sheets that prevent them from getting a good job. Recently we had four guys arrested for stripping unused offices in a mill in which they worked for whatever metal they could find. Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage and destruction. Talk about trusted employees

soft tip v. firm tip
And what are the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other. Maybe I should say what are the uses of one or the other? I was typing while Fishtank was posting.

soft tip v. firm tip
What exactly is a soft tip or a firm tip? And how do I tell, and what do I want each for? I understand power of a rod and the "action" of a rod, bending in the top 1/4, 1/3 etc. But how does a soft or firm tip equate with all of this? Also, I see most manufacturers only list the power of their rod and for me it is a little difficult to tell exactly what the action is. Most of the rods I own, I really don't have a clue as to what their true action is. They fish ok at least as far as what I'm used to. But it makes it difficult, when shopping for a new rod, to know what to look for because I don't really know what I've got. Anyway, info on soft/firm would be appreciated.

how good is this rod and reel
sorry, can't help you there. Don't own one. But, is that maybe a model made exclusively for Dick's? I have a couple Quantum b/c reels, made for Dick's. There isn't any info about them on Quantum's website or anywhere else online.

how good is this rod and reel
I have a 7' M/H Quest I bought for my son to learn to b/c with and since he hasn't been using it, I have. I have been using it at the river where the trees, rocks and pike are hard on stuff. It's been doing quite nicely, 'specially for the money. If it breaks, I won't be sobbin' in my suds. I'll take it over an Ugly Stick.

What is the point?
I started with Ugly Sticks and Shakespeare reels. I have been upgrading ever since. I gave the Ugly sticks away. I don't have real expensive, top of the line equipment, so I can't compare. But I do know my middle grade equipment is superior in every way to my low end equipment. A $30.00 reel will bring a fish to the boat just as a $300 reel will. But the $300 reel will probably last a lifetime (no guarantees though, too many variables). The $30 reel will probably last several seasons. I don't think you can derive benefit simply in terms of dollars. ie: a $100 rod is twice as good as a $50 rod. Also, over the long run, if there were no benefit associated with more expensive equipment, I don't believe people would continue to purchase high end. There is always the extreme high end where the prestige factor kicks in. Think of it in terms of automobiles. A $10,000 car will get you from point A to point B just as will a $60,000 car. It all depends on how you want to get there. I personally think that quality of equipment is more than adequate for the kind of fishing i do. Most of mine isn't that good....yet.

BPS Extreme baitcaster drag
That's as far as mine adjust, not quite 1 full turn. In reality, I've never needed more than that. Even on spinning reels, a few clicks either way is all I've ever used.

Reel Size
I have a 7' Fenwick and I actually put the heaviest reel I own, a Pflueger, from Dick's, on it to help balance the rod. The reel that came on the Fenwick as a combo was way too light and the rod was very tip heavy, and was very tiring to fish. It is much better now. Put it on the right rod, you'll like it.

Does *** have an Ika style bait? I couldn't find it on their sight.

Rod for Revo SC
It seems as though quite a number of anglers ordered the Abu Garcia Revo SC on sale from Cabelas. Now I'm curious. What rod did you mount it on and what is it's intended purpose? I'm most likely putting mine on a Shimano Clarus, just haven't decided which one yet.

question about sluggos
The slug-go works best if it is rigged perfectly straight, as suggested on the package. That way the action is very erratic and won't twist your line. First time I put a slug-go on and the first cast made with it, I caught a bass. Pike like them as well.
