  1. My home lake is 200+ acres, lots of standing timber and brush piles. It's a newer lake, opening in 2018. Primary forage is bluegill and crappie. No live-bait is allowed. Water clarity is generally less than 1 foot. I rarely if ever see bait...and when I do, it's usually in or amongst the standing timber. Usually happens at certain points in spring and summer when water visibility is around two feet. Never have seen bait on the fish finders or side imaging. All that said, the lake is small enough that I can bypass a "spot," and come back to it. I do like to camp on my favorite spots -- hit them first with fast moving baits: cranks, spinner-bait, etc. Then slow down and go finesse, or a t-rigged plastic. I finish up with a 1/16 oz. leadhead with 2.5" gulp minnow...that will catch LMB's, and panfish.
  2. I'm more of a College Football fan...but since you asked... Change overtime: I don't care how you do it...get me a winner, and a loser. No more ties. Ever. Bring back the Washington REDSKINS: too many reasons to list here...and while you are at it, I want these names back -- Cleveland Indians, University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux, Marquette University Warriors. We named our teams in honor of these groups.
  3. << or, you can do something like this >> My drop shot rod is an old Cabela's Tournament Trail IM7, 4-10lb, 1/8-5/8 oz. It was originally a 7' rod, but felt a little too light for bass fishing. A few years back the tip broke...so I cut it down and installed new tip. It's ~6'9" now...and a d**n good drop shot rod.
  4. I'm still mowing grass here in Nebraska...might get one more mowing before swapping out the mower deck for the snow-blower. @A-Jay, those Honda's are BADASS snow blowers!
  5. @A-Jay is all over this! My old boat didn't have trailer guides, and was a pain to get centered and loaded. I kept chest waders in my truck...and used them often. It was kind of a pain, but worked.
  6. Yes, cut that line off and tie on a new leader. I Normally run 5-6 foot fluorocarbon leaders on all my spinning rods, and most of my casting rods. I used to run straight braid on my casting rods. Went with a fluoro leader on my t-rig set up...and seem to be catching more fish. Love fishing spinning rods with 10lb braid and fluoro leaders ranging from 10lb down to 6lb, depending on species, need, etc. I throw all my cranks on spinning rods with this set up...casts like a dream!
  7. I'm normally gearing up for waterfowl and Mule deer seasons...but in the past few years I have really concentrated on fishing more in the fall. It was 43 degrees air temp on Sunday morning, afternoon highs were in the 60's. Water temps were 60-63. Hope to fish another month or so before hard water gets here.
  8. I love me a buzz-bait! Mainly throw a 3/8 oz. black, no trailer. I really like the triple-bladed baits...they seem to gurgle more, and allow a slower retrieve. Don't like the clackers. It's usually the first bait I throw in the morning...in darkness or low light. Love hearing that gurgle.
  9. This is the first issue I have had with my Ulterra. Been rock solid for 2+ years. My brother's Ulterra has been very issue free for five years now. He actually has a Terrova as a "backup" and I believe only had to use it once. Yes, lots of small intricate parts and electronics mean more to go wrong.
  10. I like the way you are thinking @A-Jay. Replaced the remote battery earlier this summer.
  11. Water temps dropped down to 60-63 this weekend. Air temp this morning was a brisk 43 degrees : ) They were not as active, but did manage a 19.5" | 3lb-13oz., and a 17.5" | 2lb-12oz. today....both on a 10' blue-fleck power worm, t-rigged. I just LOVE fishing t-rigged worm. Side note: The Ulterra has been acting funny for the past month or so. It will randomly lose connection with the remote, saying, "motor not found," then connect back and set speed to Zero. Re-paired the remote, powered on and off. Thought it might be the power connection...so used a little dialectic grease in there. Helped for a little, but yesterday it was even losing spot-lock, and disconnecting with remote, and setting power back to Zero. Got home, took the TM apart and made sure all the connections were in there nice and tight. This morning all was well...not issues, no disconnections. Don't know what I did, but it was flawless today from 7 AM until Noon. No issues.
  12. I picked up two pair of Kastking polarized fishing glasses. One for low-light, the other for bright, sunny days. They are always on my face. And, I have safety glasses in all vehicles, in garage, in shop, etc. Always wearing them, as well as hearing protection.
  13. Got on the home lake Saturday and Sunday. Water temps finally dropping...64-66 degrees. 19" (3lb-11oz), 18.5, 17, 16.5, 16 (x2) 15 (x2), some small ones, and some Crappie and Bluegills. Finally caught fish on a swim-jig(!). The 7" blue-fleck power worm produced all weekend long. Largest bass was caught on the tried and true, bluegill colored spinner-bait. Solved the problem with Ulterra randomly losing spot-lock, and disconnecting with remote. Needed some dialectic grease on the power plug. Cleaned up the boat and garage, and did some minor reel maintenance. Great weekend!
  14. Green pumpkin NED rig. Tiny, do nothing...cast and retrieve...maybe let it fall a little...BANG, fish after fish after fish!
  15. I tend to lose a lot of crappie jigs / lead-heads, as I am normally tossing them in trees or brush piles. Have found that the Scheels brand 1/16 oz jigs have hooks that are just light enough that I can pull and bend them, and free the jig. They are pretty cheap, so I don't mind losing them. With bass jigs, I'm normally tying them on 20lb braid...and cannot tell you the last time I lost one. I have pulled large branches from the water. Also have a nice lure retriever so I can go get them. I don't mind scaring the fish out of a spot...I can always come back another day.
  16. I ordered some eagle claw hooks from eBay. For what little I paid for them, don't care if they are legit or not. They are still catching fish.
  17. On the home lake I start the day with these lures tied on: Casting rod with black buzz-bait Casting rod with 3/8 oz. bluegill colored, double willow spinner bait Casting rod with 3/16 oz. t-rigged, 7" blue fleck power worm Spinning rod with either a square-bill, or DT-6 Casting rod with 3/8 oz. black-blue jig Spinning rod with 1/16 oz. lead-head, 2.5" Gulp minnow Spinning rod with green pumpkin SENKO, t-rigged weightless Spinning rod with 1/10 oz. green pumpkin NED (do have room in the locker for two additional rods...those are the wildcards for the day...sometimes a drop-shot, sometimes a lure/technique I'm no good at...gotta try new stuff) I generally start with the buzz-bait and spinner-bait, then to the crankbaits...then to more finesse presentations. I probably throw each set up for 15-20 minutes before switching things up. I do have some spots that demand certain lures...thick standing timber doesn't love the cranks...that's more t-rigs and jigs.
  18. Been thinking of picking up MEGA 360 with the universal mount. I believe it would work well with my fishing style and the lakes I fish. I know it's not going go work mounted to the Ulterra, and I'm okay with that. The universal mount should work well. And Humminbird web site says it will pair with my Helix 9's and network. I've seen SKU HUM411580-1 on sale for under $1k. Anything wonky with that model number? Who has MEGA 360 Imaging. Do you like?
  19. DQ

Love him, or hate him...he certainly has cracked the code...and is getting people to watch his videos. Hmmmm...maybe he got DQ'd intentionally...to get more clicks.
  20. Fished the home lake on my birthday. Decided to bust out the green pumpkin NED rig...had not used that technique in over a year on this lake. Was slow-rolling NED over the top of a submerged brush-pile...and this nice 18.5" | 3lb. LMB crushed it! I'm not great fishing off shore brush piles...this was a confidence builder!
  21. Senko's really work well on this lake. I love them rigged t-style, weightless with a Gama EWG hook. Pitch up next to trees...and just wait. I've caught some really nice LMB's that way. Problem I run in to here...wind seems to always be blowing...and waiting for that Senko to drift down is difficult. On a jighead, I like that idea!!
  22. Agreed! I was a big fan of green pumpkin in this lake...Senkos, NED, etc. Primary forage is bluegill and crappie...no live bait is allowed. The old green pumpkin just produced. Recently I went back to blue-fleck power worms, and have had great success.
  23. @scaleface thanks! I really like a 3/16th oz bullet weight for my t-rigs...paired with a 2/0 Gama EWG, this is one of my favorite ways to fish. @fishballer06 I love me a spinner bait...and usually work the timber with this technique. I'll have to give the brush piles a try. I really need to pick up some swimbaits. That's one of the techniques I have not really embraced. @casts_by_fly & @Functional the water is fairly murky...1-2' visibility at best. I do have a box full of jerkbaits...haven't had much luck with them. I need to break them out and give the brush piles a try.
