  1. I fish in the Chickahominy and Pamonkey to the south of you about an hour. I have better luck with a jig in current, they generally eat it on the fall so you gotta watch your line close. I generally pick up a t rig worm at lay downs and brush, or when fishing slower side creeks. Good luck.
  2. I have two rods for these applications. My 1/2 oz jigs go on my 854 JWR IMX Pro, and 3/4 oz jigs go on my Orrochi Brailist. Cant say enough good about my Brialist, it is a fantastic bottom contact rod.
  3. Yea its called the Chickahominy river ?
  4. I love my Plano terminal box! I choked for a long while on the price, but since I bit the bullet and got one I love it. I have tried a lot of other things and always came up disappointed.
  5. My Expride 7'3" EH gets this work in my line up. It goes up to 2 Oz. The tip is surprisingly soft for a XH rod, does great for frogs, manages some grass flipping duty and medium swim baits for me. Good luck no matter the rod choice. I use a Curado 200, I run 65 lb braid for my frog, if the water is clear-ish I will add a 20-30 lb leader on for the swim bait if necessary.
  6. A few times a winter a buddy and my self like to fish with live minnows for Bowfin, pickeral, and catfish. We were have a one of the better days, catching some nice fish. We were anchored up and my buddy had to pee so he was standing up by the trolling motor doing so. One of his rods started getting a small hit. I yelled at him "your rod, your rod!" He makes a not family friendly comment, to which I reply "your fishing rod!" Then all of a sudden his rod takes flight and is gone! We just starred at each other puzzled, like we had no idea there were fish in this lake that could do that. He was kinda heart broken, he lost an old ugly stick with a flueger presidential he had since we were in high school.
  7. I tend to fish similarly to him... well at least as far as my methods not success. He cracks his hook sets really hard and also fishes in the brush and cover a lot. If you do this I think its a recipe for success. If you have a softer sweeping hook set it may not be for you. I am heavy handed and a big guy I don't have an issue driving the hook with this setup. I also have had better success with a lighter power rod, my land ratio went up when I put down the heavy for medium heavy. Just my .02
  8. I use two rods for the things you listed, one is the Zodias 7'2" ML fast, and the other is the Dobyns sierra ultra light 700 (use the same reel on both). I love the Dobyns for small cranks, and micro chatter bait, with that said I toss small jigs, swimbaits on jig heads, and micro texas rigs far more often and for that it's the zodias. If you told me I had to have one it would be with out doubt the Zodias. I caught more than half my fish this summer on that rod, a lot of that was on a 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig head with a hula grubb. Not sure about the other rod you are comparing to but I love this Zodias rod, I may even upgrade to an Expride version this summer. Good luck!
  9. I have caught more fish on a fire tiger spinner bait than any other color spinner bait, to be fair there are a lot of yellow perch in the waters I fish. I don't do a ton of crank bait fishing so I can not really speak to that.
  10. 99 F-250 on 41" Super Swampers, I just drive out into the lake and fish from the bed. ? I am spoiled with a company truck that pulls the boat to the ramp, I am fortunate enough to work for a company that doesn't mind personal use of the truck as long as its within reason.
  11. I agree on them not caring what it looks like, just seems to work better for me. Just sharing my experiences, my resume is not one to make recommendations. I have learned that my opinion is often wrong. My fishing partner likes to do odd stuff and he still generally out fishes me, for instance one day he started throwing a square bill on a 7' 4" H frog rod with 65 lb braid and yes he still out caught me that day.
  12. While you can tell I'm on the same team by my user name, I will disagree with you for one reason. I spend most of my time fishing jigs and t-rigs in brush and lay downs, I started having issues losing fish where the braid seem to cut into the wood and i had to break off. I have had much better success with flouro in that role. But as far as the OP goes I like 832 in the grass and swing for the fences! Nothing like hooking up on a bass in the junk and knowing you can get him out.
  13. I switched a few years ago due to the fact I was missing bites while tossing jigs and t rigs in inches of water during the summer. I would never switch back, land more fish and I find more deals at the local tackle shops since left handed reals don't seem to move as fast. Its one of the only things I can do left handed.
  14. This statement truly aggravates me, mostly cause I hear it after I realize things I bought the week before for full price are now on sale together.
  15. I have had good luck early in the year with the micro chatter bait with a small single tail grub trailer on my 700 Dobyns BFS rod. Did land quite a few pickerel with it as well. Good luck.
  16. I got a bunch in there monthly bags awhile back, only tried them as trailers for the most part. Did not like their action or the results, with that said I have caught more crank bait fish on 6th sense than anything else.
  17. Mine was about 50/50 with the better fish on the latter. Love both to be honest. 1. White hulagrubb w/ blue and red flake on a 1/4" lead jighead on a 7'2" ML Zodias w/ SLX BFS reel 2. PB and J finesse jig w/watermelon candy z craw jr. on IMX Pro 894 JWR with Cronarch MGL HG (this is my most confident bait) Note: I have better equipment than skill.
  18. Not all of them but the ones that are on the boat 95% of the time. Higher on list the more I use them. Megabass Orochi Brailist / Chronoarch MGL IMX Pro 854 JWR / Chronarch MGL HG Expride 6'10" M / Aldaberan HG Zodias 7' 2" ML / SLX BFS Champion 735 glass/fast / Curado DC XG Expride 7' 3" EH / Curado 200 HG Champion 701 / Stradic 1000 St Croix Premier 7' M / Curado 70 HG St Croix Bass X 7'4" H / Curado 200
  19. They are the fish tail, I prefer the lighter fish tail for trailers, they tend to be more erratic and not impact the bait they are on too much. I like the paddle tail for stand alone swimbaiting. Just my .02 cents
  20. I tried the 3" zako on lake anna this past Saturday, and it seemed to have no action, I had it on a compact spinner bait and was very disappointed. I like the larger version on jackhammers, so I was very surprised. Have you used the 3" yet, I am curious your opinion if you have. To the OP, I have had my best luck on a chatterbait with a Zoom super fluke. 95% of my chatterbait fish have come from the super fluke, while the rest have been on a full size zako. Good luck!
  21. Thanks for the info!
  22. I have wanted to get out on that side, is it possible or do you have to know someone with a ramp in their yard? That is the only way I have been told you can fish that side.
  23. I have had my best 3 days catching numbers doing this.
  24. I love braid fishing, but after having so many issues with connection knots breaking and getting caught in eye's causing over runs. I fish straight braid on my frog and punch setup, and flouro on my bottom contact rods. Wish I could go back to straight braid on bottom contact, but my fishing partner was regularly kicking my but with his flouro even though we were fishing the same jig and trailer. Do what you like but straight braid works no doubt just not what I am using these days.
  25. I use this jig for 80% of my fishing, and almost all my fish have been caught on a Zoom Z-craw jr with the first 3 ribs cut off. In colder water I will go to a smallie beaver, in hotter water i use a yamamoto double tail grub. Good luck!
