  1. I fish braid 100% of the time, I have tried several but Suffix 832 was the winner I have settled on. I haven't tried Power Pro Maxquattro or the Seaguar yet, but have heard good things.
  2. I went with the Dobyns Fury line up and got the 806 and 795. I paired the 806 with TranX 400 and the 795 with a TranX 200. I really like each rod for its purpose. My buddy has the Champion 795 with the Tranx 300, if you were going to only get one I would get the 795 with a TranX 300 (I clear the spool with heavier baits on the 200). Having handled both the Fury and Champion I would buy the Fury again.
  3. Dobyns Fury 795SB and a Tranx 200 HG is the answer to your question. Not to expensive, but it makes those baits enjoyable to throw. When fishing my swim bait rods I throw the bigger bait in a particular area then follow up with a swim jig. Breaks up the monotony of throwing the bigger baits, and sometimes picks up a fish that wasn't interested in the swim bait.
  4. Maybe I wait for the new Curado K I am not in a huge rush, my SLX DC is doing OK I just don't think I need a 150 size reel with smaller size baits. Not huge fan of deep dish either, just a quality pan pizza in general is almost impossible to come by. They think pizza hut and papa johns is good pizza down here....
  5. Is this due to these reels just not standing up to wear or is this normal with the 70 size reels due to small components? On a side note I was born in Rockford not far from Chicago, most of my family is still up there. I sure do miss the pizza, pizza sucks down here in VA.
  6. While I like old school stuff my self, maybe some of these fads aren't so bad. I just got back into fishing this year, in the past I typically only used spinner baits, rattle traps, and t-riged lizards and the occasional worm. However I saw a bunch of stuff on frog fishing, looked like a ball on the youtube, so I picked up a frog rod and some frogs and I have caught more frog fish this summer than everything else combined. So maybe a mix of new and old isn't so bad.
  7. Thoughts on these two reels, is the Curado worth the extra $50? I am a big fan of the SLX line up (I have 6 or 7), just wondering what you get stepping up to the Curado line up. Anyone have both, even in the 150 size?
  8. I fish this exact bait on a Dobyns Fury 795 with TranX 200 HG (this bait stays on 80% of the time). No need for the faster reel with this bait but I wanted it for other purposes. If I go to the full size Gigantral I use my Fury 806 with TranX 400 HG. Love both setups, use 65lb braid on the 795 and 80lb on the 806 (water is generally pretty stained to worry about a leader, will tie one on if it clears up).
  9. Love it on my frog rod, and my finesse bait caster setup (jerk baits, light t-rigs, 6" senkos, square bills, lipless cranks)
  10. Island with Lilly pads around it...... R2S Spittin Wa 2. Just cuz I love frogging more than anything else. If it was for food it would be a orange/yellow/green spinner bait.
  11. Have had good luck with my St. Croix Bass X 7'4" HF, my fishing partner has the same rod in the MOJO line up we are both pleased with them, but I would save the $40 and stick with the Bass X.
  12. I am saying the XT is a waste of $30, I would go with the SLX (works everywhere) or the SLX DC if I wanted to step up (I.E. my frog rod or light weight rod)
  13. I find the six adjustable brakes in the SLX (opposed to the four brakes + infinity system of the XT) to be enough braking adjustment to throw 95% of baits, and for the other 5% I would step up to the DC. I have interchanged all three models on everything from a 7' medium to a 7'11" heavy flipping stick and about every thing in between. I would be fine with the SLX on any of those except the aforementioned 7' Medium rod I use for lighter baits, and my 7'4" heavy frog rod The DC model makes frogging somewhat easier. Below is a list of what I have tried them on. Each is own, this is just my experience. You wont be disappointed either way. 7'2" MHEF SLX / T-rig / spinners / buzzbaits 7'11" HF SLX / Flipping Stick 7'10" HF Bass X / Light swim baits 7'4" MHMF Bass X / whopper ploppers, treble hook baits 7'4" HF Bass X / frog rod (prefer the DC here) 7'MF St. Croix Premier / Sm. spinners, square bills, jerk baits (prefer the DC here) 765 Flip Dobyns Fury / Light flipping and jigs, large T-rigs, Swing head jigs
  14. I have two DCs, two XT's and three plain SLXs in all three gear ratios. I would pick the SLX over the XT looking back on it now. However if I was gonna pony up in the $200 price range for a combo I would step up to the DC.
  15. It's gonna be Suffix 832 for me. I prefer the power of the braid, a heavier rod, and the hook being my limiting factor. Then again I am kinda a meat head.
