Fishing shape. a health discussion.
gah. i am getting older. i am not fat, but i could really benefit from losing some weight. simply put, i might eat too much. fishing. i am pedal kayak fishing, so i do get some cardio. my legs are sore at the end of the day, and my HR monitor on my wrist tells me i am getting my HR up on long distance "get to that spot" runs. i think jogging would really help. cooler weather is coming, so time to strap on the running shoes. even on a boat deck, standing all day really tires out my back. i think it is the extra weight i have "cantilievered" out in front of me (slight belly, and not my pe...nevermind) . i'll do back stretches on the back deck and just suffer thru my friends jokes. they feel good and save me from back soreness later. arms. i find after casting a lot my elbows and forearms get sore. punching a big weight..i switch hands throughout. i could do some dumbells i suppose. do kettlebell swings. being on a kayak, being out of shape enough to not be able to slip back on board after falling out is probably a very bad thing. i practice each early summer. this last session i felt the Covid-weight while i did my best walrus moves to get back on board. i need to thin up a bit. for fishing. you boat guys. can you climb back into a bass boat if you go over? i remember using the motor and climbing back on as a kid. is that still a thing? i am gonna start working out. my "thing" used to be bowhunting elk. backcountry pack in events. i stayed in very good shape throughout the year so i could climb mountains every fall. now? i have let myself fall out of mountain shape. grrrr.

Thinning the Herd and Having the Right Rods
i would get rid of anything under 7 feet long just to keep it simple. but that is just me. use some of the proceeds to buy a Heavy Casting.

Ever get tired of catching them...
90% spinnerbait?!! i might be 0.5% spinnerbait. i absolutely cannot buy a fish on one!! i feel like it was a gag at this point. "hey, let's sell that guy this spinner thing and tell him it is fantastic..." to be fair, this year has been more bait successes than before. i even had a great crankbait day..and jerkbait day, which is almost crazy talk.

Owner Haymaker
i have them. they are pretty good. thicker wire hooks so you may have to jam them home with more authority. i thought i would go with this hook 100% but i havent. like above, sometimes the point aiming the way it does, makes threading on bait with perfect alignment a chore. and i find i have to fuss with it more often. sharp? yea, the bass hate them. honestly, with most worms i use a boring Gama O Shannasey (sorry for the spelling) hook and i do just fine.

So..there was just an earthquake in my neighborhood.
I was there as well. jow as a civil engineer in the area, I have a new perspective on the matter.

Wife is super bummed I ran past her to save my Megabass rod. just kidding. We both headed outdoors fast. Dog hot on our heels. Cat was on her own. all good. It was scary as hell. I’ll never get used to it.

I need to add a new bait or technique to my limited repertoire
i cant look at a suburban pond and not think Topwater. as a kid we used to jump fences to fish those water retention drain control ponds in texas. at night. a popper or propeller type bait. it was fun. not all snaggy and stuff on topwater.

The One That Broke Your Heart
broken hearts syndrome (for me) is directly proportional to distance from my home. if i lose a big fish on vacation it hurts. i lose one in my home-lake, then it's, "Wait, i'll be back". its the ones i dont get the honor of laying eyeballs on that haunt me. not a broken heart, but i got lots of questions. like why, how, and what the heck was it???? (they are all 10lb fish at this point)

I'm not gonna sand scratches, ever. seems counter intuitive.

Random useless facts
I ate CUY in Peru. it was good, but I wouldn't say Delicious. I can't even really describe any meat parallels to compare it to. tasted like Duck to me, but felt like pork (?).

Fair price for older Hobie Pro Angler 14 (2010/2011)?
look up a company called One Objective. they build a very cool mounting plate to get the motor on the front of a pro-angler. they even utilize the two big fasterners that hold the front handle on for added support. my friend has it. not my cup of tea since it is such a giant monstrosity up there. but he loves it.

maybe POSTPONE your trip to Clearlake, CA.
They are. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a canoe on Clearlake. Interesting.

maybe POSTPONE your trip to Clearlake, CA.
should be good fishing early winter, I hope. unless we get rain, only us Kayaker will be able to slip into that lake.

he was probably upset the moment you entered his cove. from the description you didn't do anything wrong that I can see. I love fishing leftovers.

Kayak Combos
congrats on the PA12. 360 drive? I think buy a few general setups and go for it. hate to steer you wrong with my experiences fishing my local waters. you find what you like soon and buy it all up, plus then some. PFD? a NET? hahha..

Fair price for older Hobie Pro Angler 14 (2010/2011)?
you stick your head into the hull? no foul odors? mold smells? I think $2500 is a decent deal. but when that boat was sold, it came with a Paddle. so it should be included with the $$. I think a newer 180 drive will fit. I am sure my dealer told me that, but I would call a Hobie dealer to be sure. I have seen them for sale for $800 on occasion. I think the newer pro anglers added a Skeg to help the boat track better. these have that extra drop down fin? offer $2200 with a paddle and search the net for a used pedal drive. (after verifying it would fit) personally, I would buy newer. the newer seat is like a actual comfortable chair.

DANG. I have the worst garlic breath right now.
I might have brushed my mouth 5x. I took the weekend off from fishing to hang out with my wife. fish are biting, but my wife needs me as well. we ended up running around and talking/;laughing. we hit a farmer's market for stuff to eat. we met a Garlic Farmer. first off, it needs saying. I never buy imported garlic, ever. I live near Gilroy, the garlic hotspot around here. plus those plastic mesh tubes of garlic are an enigma. they are identical to each other. five perfectly sized garlic bulbs. perfectly white skinned. no roots. they dont sprout ever. unnatural juju, if you ask me. I like garlic with dirt stains. roots even. no Stepford Wives garlic. this older farmer taught us a bunch of stuff. we bought two types. German Red and a Russian Bogatyr. both super peppery, super super spicy. when we left he admonished us, "remember, use 1/3 of what you typically use..." I cooked with the German Red last night. phoosh!! I am vampire-proof now. luckily so Is my wife. I actually took a thin sliver and bit into it. it was HOT. spicy!! now we are where we are. stinky breath. hahah. I love garlic, and I am loving finding a new source of some high end stuff.
