  1. HOBIE Outback if you can swing it. to stay closer to your budget, Hobie Compass. I have done 14 miles days in each..(more days in the Compass, I think). wind, current? pfft. the Hobie drive is the best leg power on the water. it has a "holeshot". you kick and it immediately moves. none of that brrrrrr..droning sound I hear from my friend's propeller drives. I have been in tidal currents going against wind and had to offer my assistance to tow some big prop-pedal kayaks to shore. I have taken both kayaks to tiny bodies of water where I needed to portage from one tiny lake to another. (super secret location!). to the gargantuan bodies like Clearlake and the California Delta. (soon the Pacific Ocean!) there is NO PERFECT kayak. I have been known to curse the bulk of my boat while lifting it over a fence to reach a launch, or hauling it up a hillside, or wishing it was bigger as I looked at whitecaps between me and my truck..but for the most part, I opted for a something in the MIDDLE with respect to my uses. I have buddies on both sides with lighter paddle boats and buds with HUGE pedal boats. I am in the middle. everyone will complain once in a while. I wanted a multi-taster kayak. one in the middle. Outback. more fish friendly ready out of the box, awesome storage and organization. heavier. Compass, needs a few mods to make it more fish ready, lighter, I say faster by a nose, tighter turn radius. both I can stand up and paddle like a stand-up paddle board to look for beds/fish. casting and setting the hook standing is a confidence thing. I was puckered early on, but now I just pop up and I dont have to look at my feet.
  2. I’m catching, but I’m working for them. Like I’m casting for Muskie. 10,000 casts. admittedly, fuel prices will temper my spring madness a bit and I won’t fish quite as often or stay closer to home. (Smaller fish). this was a slow March for me. Low numbers. You all doing better? I might need to hit the delta less, and Clearlake more simply because the drive is shorter. or carpool with buds. I’m not going on my friends bass boat very often this year. $$
  3. Haha. Helpful. I’d never call them. They would never suggest a Phenix rod instead. I think all my Dobyns rods have the ideal use printed on the rod itself. I’d would go with the. 3 power. Comfy grip for sure on that rod. And the bait holder hook is in a decent position for me.
  4. Fishing = fun. Simple.
  5. When I was a kid I remember doing well with gold colors. Cotton Cordell double deep, rapalas, etc. my friends (now) all buy red. im gonna try My old color. Kinda. I picked up these. My kid self couldn’t afford Megabass but the new me CAN. HEHE.
  6. Not including Apple, I’m not brand loyal at all. im all over the place.
  7. OP. You’re living room reveal is perfect. I’ll take it off your hands for proper disposal. bare minimum, you gotta cast it. Into the trees if you’re like me. But cast it.
  8. I’ll report back after I actually use it. one thing. It’s the first baitcast reel to favor laying the line down on the right side. I had to jog down the block with the drag loose to pull off line. Cranked it all back in and it laid down uniformly. Weird
  9. Took longer than usual to get the MGL 150 from TW. No prob. It was nice to kinda forget about my purchase. history. I have the 200 and a BFS as well. I put the new 150 on an extra Fury 703 I have. Laced it up with sunline Sniper 12lb flouro. I tightened the spool just beyond the side to side lock up and turned the brake to 3 (?didn’t have my readers). I let it rip with a 3/8th practice plug. Just a gentle side pitch to get the feel. That thing rocketed across my culdesac. I think I can get good distance even on conservative reel settings. I didn’t get that first backlash as I did with most new reels I can’t wait to have that physical altercation with a decent bass with it. I might take it to OK for my upcoming Striper Fishing trip ! it’s a nice reel.
  10. Not sure what it is called. But I have a new spinner baits on the truck coming to my house. ( it’s in a box w a Curado 150!) It will bring my spinner bait collection to a grand total of Three. the one I bought has a red kicker blade. Hoping to capitalize on a bit of the red craze everyone is touting for spring. Go time!!!
  11. Odd post. As I get older I’ve learned to give two-F’s to what people think. Sounds like you’re still hanging on. They are your achievements, nobody else’s. the getting old statements I reserved for aches and pains and losing my mind
  12. I did fish it. Caught five fish. One 5lb “goodun”. I haven’t been back since. I had that crap stuffed into my transducer pocket tight! It was not fun to clean. I think it will directly affect the underwater weed growth. Time will tell.
  13. I got a few packages ?of Bounty Fish top water baits to twitch past the California Delta Bass population.
  14. Nobody directly; My mom got us a subscription to a couple of outdoor magazines when we were tiny kids. The fire lit from there.
  15. Brother is local vacationing. He’s a couple hours away. He wanted to fish Clearlake. Tomorrow. But the wind is horrible tomorrow. Dangerous even. So we are going today. He’s driving in. Not knowing traffic he’s stuck in it. haha. Hope the afternoon/evening bite is on. During the wind event, we will hit smaller local lakes. im the only punctual one in my entire family.
  16. Looks like duck weed. It will eventually cover the surface. My lake is covered. The county is gonna skim it off soon. I hope.
  17. Like this. There’s some casting against the wind tho. I did well with this technique accidentally. They smash the lure on long pauses. Like exaggerated long pauses. The anticipation was addicting
  18. My friend got the 12v 100 amp battery. He gets a good day easy. Same troll motor I think. I know he saved a few hundred not buying a Dakota Lithium.
  19. I bought a bunch and gave them out as Christmas gifts. I love the thing. The CalCoast Donkey Leash. I’m frazzled mentally on pretty much any fish I catch. A big one? I’m way excited. I love focusing on the fish. Quick hook removal and clip on the donkeyL and put the fish back the water to stay cool and wet. THHHENNN! I gather myself. Untangle stuff, toss lure back into water, tuck rod away ,get a firm grip on my iPhone etc. Maybe even get the fish scale turned on and off metric mode. (“2lbs? That can’t be right…”) it’s a great way to take care of a fish. just a thought. My opinion only.
  20. Wise beyond your years on the last part. Haha
  21. Fishing. I’m relatively new to all of this. I fished in my youth but not seriously. Now it’s borderline obsessive level stuff. I was wondering why I show my friends pics? It’s to show off really, right? Am I a showoff? (Asking myself, not you). Even holding up a fish to show your buddy paddling around 100 yards away. Hooting and hollarring. Is it validation? Or purely to document the event? pics start some unwanted questions. “Where was that”. Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies. Haha. I have more fish pics on my devices than ones of my wife. Eek. Or my dog. So interesting. Not sure I need to photograph EVERY fish I catch.
  22. I’ve never needed to contact them. They ship so quickly for me. Overnight usually. I use PayPal just in case for that perceived level of protection. I never back order but I do take advantage of their “in stock” email notifications. I keep stuff in my wish list until I can compile a $50 order. Which is surprisingly EASY. I LIKE THEM.
  23. They all look good to me. I don’t scrutinize for blemishes tho.
  24. My mom tried to kill her sons. I think was 18. Puts my brother at 15. Mom bought us an old ass boat. It was a fiberglass boat with that wand on the left you pull/push to steer. It had a 70hp motor. I towed it two hours to elephant butte lake in a 1971 bronco. Launched it off a beach. As it’s entering the water i hear a man ask, “you have the drain plug in?” “What drain plug?” he tells me to pull it back out and we let it drain and he finds the plug rummaging around and stuffs it in. I swear. That man and his co angler stayed within eye shot of us all day. Angels! we skunked but learned a lot that day. We learned a lot about boats with that thing. Such fun! mom was insane.
