i would still toss it in the garbage can. i dont have the urge or the habit to keep parts and things for "just in case". that's how it starts. it is why i decided i wasnt a shadetree mechanic hope to restore an old FJ40.

the guy needed a bucket. can you bucket out a boat fast enough? i just got back from an AK cruise. i step out on the balcony one evening and saw a tinyass alum boat way way out in the ocean. the dude looked happy as a clam. i did use my binoculars on him.

i think once you determine the size..in this case a 2500 series reel, that's it. i dont find a lot of techique specific advantages or disavantages across spinner reel choices. maybe weight. just me, but i am not super sophisticated in the spinning side of my house.

@TOXIC weightless tex rig? please show us your mojo. i am good for 5-7 catches and it is a goner. as a matter of fact, most of my backlashes are a direct result of the worm flying off the hook leaving me a much lighter package that my brake settings, cannot handle. hahah..i see the worm go one way, the bare hook go completely another way..neither is towards the target and a half second later..that sound. that awful sound of my spool getting all loose and janky. hahhahaa.

Frog?

I love my 200k. It’s a tank. It’s bigger so maybe less comfy to palm. It was never a problem until I got a few 150 reels. mine is smooth and can cast very very far. I can cast a frog way beyond my target and into the tule with the best of them. It’s not glamorous or fancy. But solid.

sometimes they want subtle. sometimes they want in your face, craw giving them the finger.

a rod broken to the first eye is janky as heck..two guides? forget it. try it. clip it so the first eye is neatly at the end. rig it and cast it. you'll see. personally, i would have clipped it short enough so it would fit into my garbage can and moved on.

i am kinda just starting. i was just buying rods to fish. really not focusing on matching techiques to gear. i did well. well for me at least. i recently did some soul searching and decided my favorite technique. i bought a dedicated rod and reel for it, and i spent real money. luckily a rod just snapped in two, so i was net neutral as far as rods go. i built a wall-attached rod rack and purposely only allowed 11 combos to fit. i will stay within those numbers. one comes in, one goes out. now i am trying to figure out my SECOND favorite techique. i'll drop another chunk of cash when i can. soon. and repeat. i hope to only have 5 total when i am done. 5-6 killer set ups. streamline. i just dont like a lot of stuff in my personal inventory. all of it. i am bare minimum in kitchen gear, car tools, cars...bikes. all of it. huge piles of crap makes me anxious.

my thought of today. not my primary general doc. she is silent about fishing. but my dentist and my eyedoc are fanatics. my eyedoc today had an eyechart with fish instead of letters. it had a yellow perch on the top, biggest line. i said, "nice eye chart, but i wouldnt have led off with the yellow perch" "which fish instead?"\ "largemouth bass, of course" we then spent considerable time showing off each other's fish pics on our phones. hahah..he is a river fisherman and does great on our smallies. my allergy doc wants to kayak fish with me, and always asks for my secret lake. i hide behind Hipaa laws. he says, "you dont know what Hipaa stands for" i said it means "your not family, and you are not getting my secret lake" "we'll see if you come in with a raging rash". hahahha.. i am going to another doctor if i get a rash. crazy how many of my med people fish. oh, and i need new glasses
