Sinking Jerkbaits That Float
I cracked open my new Berkley Stunna this weekend all pumped for some cold water jerkbaiting. As you know the Stunna is a sinking style jerkbait, I threw it out cranked it down, started working it a bit, let it sit, then I looked in the water not expecting to see the lure rising to the top of the water column. I figured I must have done something wrong, went through the same process, same result. Here's the description from Berkley: "Slow things down and anglers will be delighted with a natural slow sink on the pause to entice even the most lethargic fish into lashing out at your bait." So, questions, am I overlooking something I'm doing wrong or my particular lure or is just one out of the million they made that floats? I guess I'm going to have to put suspend dots on it, or upsize the hooks.

Question regarding the old wiggle warts..
They are for sure legendary baits here in Missouri waters. Especially down in the Ozarks region. I have two theories on why you don’t see a exact replicant. 1. They’ve tried and thrown resources at it and failed. 2. From a pure bottom line perspective, they have done cost analysis and determined it’s not worth the effort. it’s funny, Randy Blaukat posted this today and he posed the same question about why they can’t replicate the mold.

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Very interested in those Spro Sakura Worms. They're made of elaztech style plastic, and they look super enticing in the underwater shots I saw.

Setting up a dedicated Ned rig combo
I use a 6’10” mlxf rod with a 2000 reel, 6lb braid to 6lb flouro leader. No jig head over 1/10 and use 1/16 and 1/32 90 percent of the time. I don’t drag unless it’s the middle of winter. I do dead stick it, swim it, hop it, snap/jerk it. Dial in your drag to your liking, takes some adjustment.

Color that surprised you
Do you find that to be a color for stained/dirty water, or do you throw it everywhere?

Late Fall Bass Lures ?
The blade bait is one of my lure categories I'm focusing on this fall/winter/spring. Can I ask what type of scenario are you looking for to know when to throw one?

The Skunk Award Goes To…
Are you throwing really small cranks? I'm surprised you're only getting crappie/perch etc. My only advice is to try and deflect off cover, and use a varied retrieve, stop and start, sideways sweep of the rod, etc. Keep throwing it, as you'll see by this pic, they will draw strikes. This was my biggest of the year on a Lucky Craft LC 1.5 square bill. This was late summer/early fall, the fish were busting shad in the flats, I threw my LC right past a stickup that was the only visible cover in the flat. I ran it past the stickup, felt it tick a branch or something then wham. Fish on. My pops had caught a 5lber the cast before on a crank bait as well. Keep at it.

I tried throwing way back in March until the first week of November. So probably 50 degrees up to high 80s of water temp. Nothing. Cavitrons, Lunker Lures, Picasso Dinner Bell. Goose Egg. I do notice my lures not tracking straight often and I know that's one issue, but even when I get them running straight, still no bites.

Ned Rod Battle: Dobyns Vs St. Croix VS G Loomis
@Cody28 I went and read that post, don’t know what to tell you other than I didn’t find it too soft and have not had issues losing fish. Go check out what Ned Kedhe uses for his Ned rods. You don’t need anything fancy and also any ml - m spinning rod will get the job done.

Thankyou for teaching me about riprap!
Now start adding a jerkbait around rip rap here in these colder months.

The Skunk Award Goes To…
If I would posted this topic last year, chatterbaits would have been my choice, but in 21 they worked like a charm. I pretty much only throw them in dirtier water/grass situations. (I’m sure other folks catch them in all types of clarity/cover) It’s a fun bite, if you can stomach it, keep trying.

I struggle with Keitech style swim baits too on the flashy swimmer, I then switched to the skinny dipper and Little Dipper and I had some days this year that were pretty darn good. I don’t know it the pronounced wag of the Keitech turns the bass in my waters, but the dippers have a tighter wiggle. That’s the only thing I could figure. I caught them on flat calm bluebird skies and windy days, didn’t matter.

The Skunk Award Goes To…
I'm probably on your side of the argument for or against glide baits, but the couple of times I got bites, it was pretty exciting, so I can see why people throw them. But, ultimately going fishing and knowing most likely I'm going to strike out is a tough concept for me. To all my friends that replied with Jigs, I will just say this, and maybe I need to take my own advice on buzzers. Stick with it, they pay off, but I've also learned what lakes are "Jig" lakes and what lakes are not in my area. I think that has helped me avoid those skunky days with them. I don't really have any specific advice as there's a whole thread on that topic I'm sure you'e already perused.

The Skunk Award Goes To…
Hey y’all I’m starting this thread as both a way to vent frustration and also investigate why one particular lure category provided little to zero fish this year. So the lure I spent the most time throwing and catching ZERO fish was a buzzbait. I also had no blowups either. And I tried several different ones in several different bodies of water from March to November. I don’t get it. Now that I think of it I can only remember 1 fish Ive ever caught on one. So what lure did you devote the most time to that saw little to no action?

PB Rat
This has been the case for me. The handful of bites I’ve had on rats came right before the lights went out. It’s a fun bite though.
