Absolute best all-purpose chatterbait trailer
If youre looking for more commotion, then a rage swimmer or any paddletail will give that. I don't usually use them, but I have produced with them

Absolute best all-purpose chatterbait trailer
Zako or any bug/grub (Rage Menace, Rage Bug, Bandito Bug) even craw trailers work. For zakos, I'll reel a little faster to stay of the bottom, for bugs/grubs, I'll do a slow chatter while ticking the bottom and pauses.

Baits that are hot and cold for you?
Any technique that I recently discovered, catch the first fish with it, then abuse it for the rest of the week. That's as hot and cold as it gets.

Shimano Curado K 200, Tough to dial in
I recently got my first Curado K 200HG a month ago. On the reel; 20# Red Label, thin mono backing to braid backing to the fluoro, and a 3/8 oz ball head finesse jig. It does seem finicky to dial in at the beginning, especially with two brake controls and the spool tension, but it's a huge upgrade for me and is a much better workhorse than my SLX. Casting is great, pitches well, just need to figure out the perfect settings for skipping still.

What discontinued baits do you refuse to put away...
Whoa, I have one of those in Sexy Shad, couldn't find what it was called until now!

Also favorite worm hooks?
Gamakatsu, Trokar, and a small bit of VMC All readily available at Walmart, Dick's, and more.

What would happen if you set the hook on a circle hook?
I will use a small size 1 circle for wacky rigs, occasionally. When setting the hook, I focus on a steady sweep till I feel the pull. Don't snap too fast, the hook will miss. If you like to have a fast "bass-style" hookset, then get a straight shank hook

A purple worm.
No, purple does not work, no one should ever use purple for bass fishing, especially the Tequila Sunrise color. Leave those colors for me instead...

Bed Fishing Lures/Rods
On the bed: 7'2" MHF 20# Red Label 1/4 or 3/8 oz weight 4/0 EWG Strike King Rage Bug I tend to use natural colors instead of the typical bright whites. Cast way past the bed and ease the bait back towards the fish, while super-lightly shaking the rod.

Bass hitting top water lures
Try early mornings or late evenings. A dark sky always produces better topwater luck for me.

Newb to bass fishing in SoCal
My thought is that mono will hold more when cut, but fluoro is harder to cut. A small nick in mono might last the extra seconds needed to land a fish because it stretches, while a small nick in fluoro will snap easily. But, because mono is softer, it will get cut more often than fluoro.

Fluorocarbon (10-12 lbs should be good), remember straight braid also floats. Fluoro has more abrasion resistance than the other two, but check your line occasionally for fraying. It's also the most invisible, though that I never prioritize that over the first two concerns.

Opinions on these baits.
Lunkerhunt has a few baits that I actually like, particularly their topwater frogs and spiders.

The, "Line-Shy" debate
It doesn't really matter to me, I switch line for cover and not line-shyness. Fluorocarbon for rocks or tough cover and braid for grass. Who knows?

Great questions! A Texas-rigged worm can be used with or without a weight. The weightless version acts a wacky rig, but only on one end and weedless. If you want to add weight, try 1/4 or less. Along with senkos, there's the YUM dinger, Strike King Shim-e stick, BPS Sticko, and others. What you want with a wacky is for the ends of the worm to do a wiggle while falling. Be careful with only 4 pound test, I wouldn't cast that into any cover. If your intention is to get to cover deep in reeds, then you might want to upsize the line. IMO, line isn't for the fish, it's for where the fish is hiding. Here's a GENERAL chart for colors, but remember there is no right answer:

Gama Hook Failure
What's your rod's power? For the 2/0 Gamakatsu EWG hooks (which are a light-wire hook), I never go past a medium power rod. Although, I do think it's very odd for the hook to snap in half... I've never experienced that before, only had hooks get bent out from improper rod power. I've always liked Gamakatsu hooks and never had problems with them.

Welcome to the endless addiction that is bass fishing! Low-light conditions usually mean more feeding activity for bass, so yes. Try a Texas-rigged worm/creature or wacky rigged worm. If I can see the bass, these two would be on the list of primary options.
