Nova Anglers... any patterns?
Jason, Lake Brittle is a WASTE of time anyone will tell you that, it hasn't been good in ten years or better, pick another spot, maybe lake curtis in Stafford County... or come see me on Lake braddock, I'll go early AM if you want, much better than brittle. Fact not opinion.

Cedar Run off Aden Road
hey jason, wish you'd of had better luck... the part of the water that goes under Bristow where you parked is Cedar run and to the left about 20 minutes upstream on a boat would be the aden road part, the fork part that you were fishing is where Broad run merges with cedar run and to the right is Lake Jackson, here's a map.... it'd be a long *** day but we should put a canoe in at aden rd bridge and take it all the way to bristow rd bridge, road wise they're only like 7 minutes apart but river wise it's probably take at least 3 hours maybe more i'm no good at gaging that on a map, here's the image, i outlined the strem in blue you can see it in the trees, and i labeled the put in and take out spot, maybe you can guess as to how long it takes... again if we drove from bridge to bridge it'd take about 7 minutes, so i'm guessing between 2-4 hours... I imagine there isn't much current at all either....

Cedar Run off Aden Road
They are both private, the small lake, Lake Eng is very private and you will most likely be chased off by this guys that lives there, he's a stickler and riders around on a 4wheeler, but i got cool with him, as i explained to him that i had permission to fish the lake from a guy who owne half of it, the half with all the woods near the bank, i used to put in a boat in the little cove on the top left of the picture of the lake... i had permission to drive through the field and launch though...

Lake Jackson
I fish lake jackson, it's actually fed by broad run and cedar run which merge together at a fork upstream near bristow and brentsville road, that strecth after they merge is the best stretch until the open lake before the dam, Lake jackson then feeds into the occoquan resevoir which starts at the bottom of lake jackson dam by 234. It's a nice lake, and is very private, i do however have a key :-X, haven't been on it this year but last year i did well. Good luck!

Cedar Run off Aden Road
Hey man, now you've really hit home on me, that bridge is 5 minutes from my parents house where i grew up on Bristow rd. Parking on the shoulder is fine there's a little, your main concern should be water, is there any? I don't know as I haven't been down there in a while but I do know when it's dry around here that area is LOW. Watch out for electric fences as on one bank all the way down is cow pastures and they have electric fences up and down all the way. Usually you need waders in some parts but like I said I have no idea about the water level, I wouldn't expect too much. Good luck, wish I coud go with ya. Also, coming from 234 if you go over the bridge and keep going another mile or so is a development with a lake in it over the hill on the left. I did very well over there last summer. so bring your largemouth get up too. They are still building on it so there is only like 10 houses tops. It's called lake eng. Here's a pic, the lake is on the left as you can see down the dirt road which is no longer a dirt road and there is houses in the fields... you can see cedar run vertically in the picture on the right.

My walk the dog, prop bait concoction
well LURE wise the prop is on the front of the lure where the eyes and mouth are painted, but this it's still the back of the lure, you are now tying your line on the new front of the lure which was the back, so now the painted face, eyes and mouth are facing backwards instead of at you... get it? the lure is the same only you've turned it around so the skinny part of the torpedo is now the front, it's the same idea as the lucky craft, i haven't used that i'd like to see the different action in comparrison to the torpedo body.

My walk the dog, prop bait concoction
I think i'll call it the Bad A, cause that's what it is, not sure if anyone has ever thought of this but I've never seen it or anything like it. I can't find any prop baits that you can walk the dog with so i took it upon myself to create one and I did and it works great, The topwater bite has been on so what better time to try this. I took a standard Torpedo and reversed the tie loop from the head ofthe lure to the back part of it and moved the prop and back treble hook to the head so now when it floats the new front (old back) kind of sticks out of the water and when you twitch it, it now goes side to side and you now how a walking prop bait. Very simple takes 2 minutes, I suggest superglueing the threads when you rescrew the parts. Now i'm sure if one doesn't exist osmeone will trademark it, oh well, just sharing my ideas.

Fishing at golf course ponds
Up until this past year, the previous 5 years of my life were spent fishing on a golf course (particularly one hole) that was LOADED with BIG bass, we filled up 3 roles of film of 5lbs or more (catch and release only). It was HUGE as far as "Pond's" go it was at least 100 yds in length and 50 across at the widest. I had permission from my friend and his family who are homeowners that pay fees for an HOA therefore supposedly granting them permission, they live at the 3rd hole where their backyard is the driving range which was at your back when you casted to the water from that bank and across from you on the other bank with the tee box to your back up a slight hill, so if you were quiet and still golfers didn't see you in that spot. No one bothered us the first 3 years or so, in fact the manager would go golfing in the evenings with buddies and a dog running around and ask us how we were doing and suggest going to other holes as they hold good fish too. Then a new manager moved in and started giving us grief when they saw us, most of our fishing was done in the evenings and by 5 or so no one really comes through the 3rd hole most are on the back nine, so it wasn't really an issue, he was just a jerk, plus why stock it if you can't fish it, i know the employees fished it many times. In fact I can't remember on golfer ever having a problem with us there, if we were at the end where the green was (par 3) we'd move when a golfer stepped to the tee box. Most of them when they approached the green would say something along the lines of "Hey, a birdie and a Bass on the same hole, can't beat that!" Last year the new management put up signs across from each other one right before the tee box and the other on the other side of the pond right before the driving range, allowing us only to fish the back left corner which isn't even 1/3 of the pond. We still cheat in the evenings when i make it out there as it's no longer only 10 minutes away as I moved out of my parents house, but when i visit my dad we go back. The pond has completely lost it's integrity it used to be amazing but now you won't catch anything over 1 1/2 pounds or so, but you'll catch 20 if your just looking to catch alot of fish. It's pretty depressing what's happened to it. BUT I now live on a neighborhood lake with my boat in the water 50 yds from my yard. I guess the most you can do is ask for permission, they can only say "no". If they grant you permission just take care of the pond just as we did/do still when we go, pick up trash even if it isn't yours and don't leave your lures in the water or on the ground, we also you to help out the range ball guy by kicking all the balls off the bank in to the range where his cart could pick them up, i wonder if he ever wondered who made all those piles of balls over time , also i'd suggest not wearing your best pair of cut off's and torn jeans to fish a golf course. Good luck! Tight lines!

pitching/flipping with spinning reel
I completely agree except with the skiiping part at the end, i can skip baits beauitfully under trees right up to the bank when needed just as well with baitcasters asa i can spiining reels, it just takes practice and patience, don't stress over it. It will come.

pitching/flipping with spinning reel
First thing is first, the point of flipping and pitching is for silent entry at short distances, so for one you really shouldn't need to pitch or flip beyond 40 feet, which any well tuned quality baitcaster can handle, if it's beyond that then that is when I'm casting side arm or underhand to stay low, and overhead for long casts with cranks, spinners and top water. The extreme disadvantage i find with spincasting is in order to stop or slow down the line your only choice is to reach up the rod and grab it or stick your index finger into the line as it's spinning off creating sudden stop and unaccurate pitch, imo. Baitcasting is as simple as learning your reel's breaking system and backlash control and finesing with your thumb, nothing beats it IMPO.

Small fish going after my line....
This actually happens to me very often, I use braided line(power pro microfilament), and it usually happens where the line actually enters the water, i assume to them it looks like an insect, it doesnt seem to affect my fishing as i catch fish all the times, so i also don't think my line is to visible and i don't really worry about that as i'm not competively fishing tournaments or anything.

Braided Line/Hook problem
i've always just done braid straight to hook, i've been thinking more and more about a leader but I am still reluctant and not too sold yet on the idea, fishing has been slow, so i'm probably just trying to hard to find a legitament excuse for why they aren't biting... I'll let you know if I make the switch...
-
help me flip/pitch
once you get it down work on your precision with a bucket or coffee can, than work on finese to where you don't even splash or make any noise entering the water, heck try at the water in the thickest crap you can find, there's a big one in there i guarantee it... as soon as you see your line tick just once set the hook, always keep a tight line and watch for the tick!

Braided Line/Hook problem
yes! superglue is a must have, i forget it all the time and that's how I know it's a must have... "if only I had some superglue, DOH!"
-
creating cover
old christmas trees tied to cinder blocks or jugs full of conrete work great and is probably the most popular method
-
Braided Line/Hook problem
from what it sounds like your having the same issue i have where the knot basically stays in tact and just slides off the hook through that small slit, i've turned to SUPERGLUE! it works fine! and use it on the knot between the leader and the braid also if you go that route, never be withouth superglue when it comes to knots. it's not a hook issue stay with what you're comfortable with, just use superglue! and get the kind you can either drop on or rub on but not the kind the you have to push is on.
