April 15th - anyone fishing?
at lake crockett me and a buddy would put 1 ounce rat-l-traps on and cast over them and reel up really fast to them and set the hook, we called it carp hunting, never came away with anything though... next time your at braddock keep your eyes open for the HUGE coy in there he has to be 5-7 lbs. usually resides by the shallower lilly pads in the back cove. He's BRIGHT orange

if you land a carp it will lost likely be by accident, they don't feed on our worms and stuff, they're vegetarians for the most part, especially grass carp which are just about exclusively veggy's. If you hook one it's your loss, they're nasty fish IMO and have gross lips. If you want to catch one, use bread or popcorn. Did you catch anything anywhere?

Trout - Thanks 2 Wv DNR
d**n, it's hard to tell size, but that thing looks bigger than average around here... where did you catch that? and on what? is that a trout magnet? my best around here was a 23 inch 5LB brown about 3-4years ago on a yellow and red panther martin, i thought it was a carp it first, i don't have the pics here but i'll try to remember to post them when i get home, that fish was marvelous here's my catch not too long ago this one is a little bit better than average around here, which isn't sayin' much...

NOVA guys. I have to do it.......
Rob we used to have a set of wheels for my boat, way back before it is as heavy as it is now, but if you have wheels is there a path wide enough and smooth enough to move down? we should make some new wheels and get my boat into hard to get to places that would be good with a boat I.E. mercer, hunstman, and woodglen.

Burke Lake
My question is why the heck do you need a fire extinguiser for an electric motor?, i don't have one all the time because I don't bring my outboard out a lot, would I have gotten a ticket for not having it? Also, since when is it a law to have flare guns an first aid, that's ridiculous. I have a 12 ft. Jon boat with a mounted trolling motor and to my knowledge I am only required to have pfd's for each passenger, a throw cushion, a bail bucket and maybe an anchor (not sure about the anchor but i have it nyway) I don't even think it's a law to have a fire extinguiser when i have my 9.9 mounted because it's under 10HP, boating laws are so wishy washy and hard to understand the way they're printed out, can someone clarify their interpretation of the laws for boats 12 ft and under and less the 10HP

New PB Today (6lbs 8ozs)
This time of year, with a belly like that... i'd say it's a her not a him you made out though, I missed a beautiful fish at braddock the other night with the same sort of scenario when I hooked her with a jig and right as she got up to the bank as I tried to horse her up the steep slope, somehow the jig popped out and she flapped around back into the water as I jumped in getting totally soaked but to no prevail... I didn't get a chance to weigh it to the decimal like you but I'd guess it was right around 5 lbs. But now I know where she lives and i'm not telling :-X

Germantown Lake Faquier County Virginia
I've fished Crockett about 5-10 times and have never done great there. For some reason I still like going there but I've never seen BIG fish there, the best I've done is 3.5-4lbs and that's it, I've never seen a lunker there from anyone else either. It's great for crappie catfish and carp but I don't fish for those. Now that i live closer to DC it's not worht the Gas and the fee to go all the way out there, you have to pay if you're not a Faquier resident. There is ALOT of sunken Christmas trees and such, but the thing that sucks is the blow the horn for you to come in before it's even dark.

hey ugly, you and I need to get together, i'm out on Braddock everynight, my deck backs up to the lake and i have a boat on the bank in one of the coves. PM me your information and we'll get together, it's slow right now out there but i did very well in april last year, they started bedding around april 20th last year, so i expect it soon, the water is clear right now all my luck (which isn't much as of late) has been on spinnerbaits near the bank and my partner has done well on jigs, Rob and I were out this past weekend when it got cooler an missed a bunch and he got one on a shakey head if i remember correctly.

Northern Virginia Pre Spawn Get Together Thread
hey guys, haven't been on in a LONG while since the beginning of the planning for this trip, i was suprised to see the thread, sorry I missed it I was busy with other things, how did everyone do? What time did you guys make it out, morning or evening and for how long? I've been fishing Braddock, it's been slow, but the water is clear and we're missing fish left and right, they're not aggresive yet just flirting with the bait, not really taking it in. My buddy did land a 5lber though, he was pitchin' a jig to the bank pullin' it to the surface and letting it drop and catching them on the drop, he got 4 that way. other than that day it's been slow. here's the big guy

Looking for a "can't miss" weekend in NOVA.
Rob knows most if not all of Northern Virginia's public waters very well, from big lake to small ponds... for the most part... ask him, if he joins you, you make walk away with some cool tackle you've never even seen before, he's been a fishing santa claus to me... Send me a PM if you walk a NOVA lake. I may join if that's alright...

10 foot jon boat conversion to bass boat
i will post pictures of mine when i get home... use marine grade plywood for the deck, 1/2 inch, obviously outdoor carpet, build a frame out of angle aluminum (to keep it light) rivet the frame but use screws into the actual boat so you can take it apart if neccesarry. i have a 12footer and really wish i had the 14 footer, i can't imagine a 10footer, good luck i'll post pictures and more advise as i think of it.

Power Pro Braid??
why a leader? the only reasonable explanation i've seen is for weightless plastics, and even with that I personally have never experienced a problem and I always use 20lb powerpro on all my reels with every lure. I have NEVER thought I was having trouble with visibility, I honestly think it's overrated, but really... there is no way of knowing, we're not fish... Also the backing I've never put much thought in to, I just use what I have it doesnt matter and only like 10 yds at that, it's just there so the braid doesnt slip and it's not gonna come undone that far down the spool, if you're casting and seeing your backing on the spool you need to reline your reel. Just my opinion...

What would you use a 7'3" MH Baitcaster for?
