help me flip/pitch
first of all they are two different methods but they both are used for short range/stealth/limited casting option scenarios, some people switch the names for both methods but to me pitchin' IMO is holding the lure in your free hand and slingin' out of your hand with the rod using mostly your wrist from the rod hand pitching: practice practice practice man, that's all I can say as long as you have the method down and the right mechanics and understanding of what you're doing then it wil come with practice practice practice, you really have to learn your reel and to fish with your thumb on a loose spool for distance, i recommend setting your weights in the reel to two up (two the are across from each other) and setting the backlash knob by holding the rod/reel out at a 45 degree angle and depressing the release button so the lure falls with ease to the ground without your thumb on the spool but when it hits the ground it just barely kicks out extra line, that's a good place to start, then go from there, eventually you'll get used to it and want to loosen the knob more which is fine but you'll just have to finese your thumb on the spool even more once you try pitchin'/Flipin' with a 7'9" flipin stick with a reel with a flipin' switch and a heavy braid, you won't stop, just practice, it's very frustrating at first but we've all been there, you'll get it i promise! Flipin': IMO is when you let out a rod lengths worth of line and take line (not lure) between the reel and the first rod guide in your index finger (some people use whole hand i just use my finger) and pull it to the side raising and lowering the lure at the end of the rod, get the lure a comfortable distance from the rod tip i usually start with 2-3 and then basically swing the lure in a pendalem type motion and pinpoint where you want to land the lure and ease it in by finesing the landing with the line in hand. For more distance, you need to pull line from reel before you flip it as it is difficult to get line to free spool with this method, good luck!

how to fish a tube
you are replicating two things, dying/escaping shad/baitfish with certain rigs, and the STEAK DINNER for bass CRAWFISH one word, MIZMO! http://www.mizmo.com/ I have fished many different tubes and nothing compares to the Mizmo big boy tube rigged with the 1/8 oz. insider ( a wide gap hook with a weight on it) here are the best techniques, check out the rigging the insider tab http://www.mizmo.com/fishingluresinfo.html however I only fish it two ways and trust me it produces, I ALWAYS throw the Green pumpkin (brown) Big boy (4") nothing beats it IMPO http://www.mizmo.com/bigboycatalog.html half way down the page... the only ways I fish these are rigged with the 1/8 oz. insider by hopping it off the bottom like a crawdad or dragging it slowly on the bottom. Or I sometimes use other tubes that are a tad smaller that aren't mizmo but I only do that when I'm using a small split shot 6 inches up from the hook and just darting it through the water like a baitfish, try it with a pearl or white, it's killer! I love tube fishing, you can jerk it, jig it, pitch it, flip it, hop it, skip it, I've even caught fish with just a straight steady retrieve, GOOD LUCK and order some Mizmo Green pumpkin brown with and 1/8 oz. insider, red hooks if you can find 'em...

can you suggest tackle bags for fathers day
if it's hard to move then it's no good for pond fishing, i need something that holds a good amount that you can throw over the shoulder and move about ponds with ease, any suggestions? links or pics please! thanks guys!

can you suggest tackle bags for fathers day
I'd like to get my dad a nice tackle bag (not box) for POND HOPPING and for bringing on the occasional boat trip so nothing to bulky or big, something on the small side but that you can carry ten or so hard baits and a nice assortment of plastics and hooks etc. His back pack is a clustered disaster, links and pictures are very much appreciated as well as any input! thanks alot!

Never seen this before...
i wouldn't call it highly uncommon, i've caught fish that I lost a hook in not too long after the incident, and this has happened to me more than once....

Should the drag slip on hookset?
I've started having the same exact slippage on hook sets with my curado as well (the 100) and I first noticed it during the spawn when I caught a very nice sized bass, I have mono backing on my braided as well and still had the issue in fact i missed a few because sometimes the slippage was severe resulting in double and triple hook sets, i used to release my drag and brake but stopped a while ago, just got lazy with it, and i suppose that is what happened to my reel after reading this thread :-/ does anyone know what can be done to fix this issue? as it is still happening to me....

First Baitcaster (Recommendations)
my favorite reel ever and my go to all the time is mu Shimano Curdao 100, I believe it's hard to find that size nowadays as it's got a smaller profile to where it fits in your palm perfectly but it's awesome, i love it, if you can find one get it, it hink my whole set up with the curado and extreme pole was like$150-200, honestly there is no point in saving money if you can afford it even if you're a beginner because learning on QUALITY products is much easier, and you honestly can't really screw up the reel besides getting horrible birdnests/backlashes, that's about the worst that can happen, pay the money man and learn with quality if you use a cheap reel it'll take longer to learn, trust me/us!

skipping with a baitcaster?
IMPO nothing skips better than a weightless Bass assassin with a 4/0 or 3/0 straight Owner hook, my fav color is rainbow trout
-
skipping with a baitcaster?
practice and great concentration i'm assuming :-/ I can only kind of do it and that's only by pitching, good question, grabs popcorn and waits.... 8-)

How you catching them? (log)
once again last night I was only getting bites on the watermelon tube, my buddy tried a white lizard and an x-rap and minus 1, I also tried tactics that have worked in the past like letting a devil's horse or jitterbug just sit right on top of the beds but to no prevail... I didn't catch any fish but like I said the only thing I got bites on was the tube, it's just everytime I set the hook it seemed like i was ripping it from their mouths, i think they were only grabbing the tail end of the tube, as I was using my normal technique of setting the hook at the first tap or first sight of line movement... resistance was there but no fish when said and done :'(

How you catching them? (log)
Every fish I've caught here in Northern Virginia over the past two weeks has been on a Watermelon Mizmo tube... The bass are on the beds here and protecting, I've tried minus one's and spinnerbaits with no prevail, i've tried senko's but i've become to impatient with a senko to fish it slow enough for layin' on beds.... one particular tube is where it's at for me right now, i never need anything else even though i bring it all still with another rod as well but haven't needed anything....

Need help choosing a new outfit!
I'm Flying to Folly SC for some Bass fishing for a weekend to meet an old friend, I am vary nervous about checking my current fishing outfits with my luggage as I love them very much, so I figured I'd just order two new rods and either bring the reels or just two whole new outfits. The two I use most frequently are my 6'6" MH action rods one is BPS Xtreme with the Shimano Curado 100 baitcaster I use for plastics and the other is a 3 year old BPS Rick clunn Signature Series topwater rod and Rick Clunn Signature Series Baitcast I use for hard baits. I'm looking for something to use for plastics down there and something to use for hard baits, and with my two outfits I have now I have found that there is a differnce in feel when comparing a work or hard bait on both poles, I wouldn't use one of those two for anything else than What I currently use them for... so I'd like to open this up for some suggestions, I haven't decided yet if I'm going to get a two combo's or just get two rod's and travel with the reels. I am currently comfortable with my 6'6"'s mh and would like to stick to that for this trip as I'm not going to learn or improve with anything just fish and do what I already know with an old buddy. These new purchases will probably fall in line as my number 3 and 4 rods for certain situations may a permanent drop shot or wacky rod and maybe the other will be shall crank rod or something who kows, point is I don't need them to neccesarily be better than what I have but comparable, I figure a good combo price range to shoot for is 80-100 bucks per combo and if I just get a rod somewhere around 50 bucks or so... What do you know or think about these... I'm currently looking at the Bass Pro Shops® Bionic Blade XPS Trigger Rods - 6'6" MH and.... Bass Pro Shops® Tourney Special® IM-7 Graphite Rod - Trigger - Model TYS66MT - 6'6" MH Oh yeah I fish braided line and nothing else

I'm confused (t-rig vs. weedless)
I've gone on about my different way of the C-rig before... I simply just make my T-rig into a C-rig by moving the bullet weight up where I want it and then Peg it, sure it's not the Traditional way of C-rigging but it's quick and proven effective. 8-) GOOD LUCK

Fishing with tubes: Question?
up inside the tube, you can also stick a foam ear plug in there and adjust the position to direct which end floats, you can also make it fall a certain way when weight ie: head first, skirt first, or paralell to the bottom

does anyone recognize this lure?

Fishing with tubes: Question?
you should look into the mizmo tube, it's the best i've used it has a pointed weight the dangles on the shank that you shove through the tube into the middle of it, it's awesome... it also has salt imbedded in the lure to give a crunch when the fish bite it for for enticement... it's my favorite rig and I'll never use a tube differently besides with a split shot up on the line about 6-10 inches without the weighted hook instead just a 3/0 4/0 or 5/0 (depending on size of tube) hook in the tube= awesome action... check these links out and invest... http://www.mizmo.com/rigginginsider.html http://www.softbaits.com/lures.cfm?d=Weedless%20Tube%20Jighead&m=Mizmo here's the hook i was talking about loose lip here's some tubes, they're typically about 3-4 inches and replicate shad and most often crawfish, perfect four jigging in rocks and logs and stumps and pitching in thick cover or cat tails

does anyone recognize this lure?
I used to use this alot and did well on it, but as you can see the bill broke off and it's been a key chain ever since, I'd like to order another on but I can't remember who makes it, does anyone know? I believe it was a shallow runner, the eyes make me think of Bagley but I can't find anything that looks just like it... all help is much appreciated...
