  1. Based on the heavy moderate rods I have built, I wouldnt want to use them for frogs. I would want at least a moderate fast rod as I would think it would be tougher to bury frog hooks in a fishes mouth with a moderate (softer) rod than it would be to bury frog hooks with something that has a faster action. I also fish out of a kayak 99% of the time. I now limit rod lengths to 7'3 as any bigger is tough to manage. Also if you are frogging in cover you are going to need something with more power than a moderate rod to get a fish out of the slop.
  2. I think we or maybe just me makes fishing a lot tougher than it is which justifies the need for all kinds of 1 bait. If I was limiting my beavers to two baits I would go with a Rage Bug Mid and 4 and Sweet Beavers/Smallie Beavers. The Rage bug would provide more action while the Sweet Beaver/Smallie Beaver be a little more subtle.
  3. Our Lakes in Central NC you dont see much over 45 ft. Right now thermacline is +- 15 ft so Im fishing 15ft of water for fishing that are hanging out just off the bottom.
  4. I am a kayak fisherman without FFS. Over the last few years I have had some success dropping a blade bait (Either Damiki Value or steelshad) in 10-15 ft of water and vertically jigging. When I start to see a pod of fishing show up on my downscan I drop the bait and start jigging. Small jerks up and big jerks up...I lost my PB 2 nights ago. Only issue I have doing this is at times being on the right kind of fish. Often on white perch and crappie.
  5. They also have a sealed drag. I have two of the Coastal 150s and one of the Coastal 80s. I fish inshore so I like what the Coastal series adds. I really love the Coastal 80. I use it for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, smaller swimbaits, and crankbaits.
  6. I typically take 6 rods with me. It varies based on the time of year. Late winter/early spring I take two jerkbait casting rods (1 for 110 and 1 for 110 jr), I take a deep cranking rod, a lighter cranking rod for flat sides, I take a jig rod, and I take a spinnerbait set up typically a MH fast rod with a 28 ipt reel (typically 7.1:1. Spring I take a jerkbait rod, a medium crankbait rod, jig rod, topwater rod for buzzbaits and walking baits, Spinner for wacky and shaky heads, and lastly a spinnerbait/chatterbait set up. Summer I take a jig rod, medium cranking rod, heavier cranking rod, spinner for wacky and shakyheads, an ultra lite for crappie/white perch, and a rod i can fish as top water or throw a chatterbait/spinnerbait Fall/early Winter I take a jerkbait rod, a medium crankbait rod, jig rod, topwater rod for buzzbaits and walking baits, Spinner for wacky and shaky heads, and lastly a spinnerbait/chatterbait set up.
  7. I would think there is minimal visibility in muddy water and that the spinnerbait vibration/flash is what is drawing them to strike. I personally dont think either would be more be better than the other. In addition I would use a trailer (like others have said) that increase that thump/vibration.

  9. Thanks man. I have two of the 20s. One of them casts further than the other and requires substantially more braking.
  10. I have 3 metaniums. Two of the 2020 MGLs and one shallow edition. Im looking at the 2023 Metanium 100 and wanted to see if its the same size as the other two. This is the only one that i see is the 100 size and it is actually lighter than the others. thanks
  11. crankbaits or a good fluke bite
  12. Yeah i think so. I have all 4 models and the 1.5 isnt 3/8. Look at TW and you can see all 4.
  13. Ok the sb-57 is 3/8 oz which is the circuit board. Size is between 1.0 and 1.5. The 1.5 is 1/2 oz
  14. Copper State Tackle has 25% off for memorial day sale. Includes MegaBass
  15. Midway has Rapala Dt’s for $6.79
  16. Agree completely. Would try 10-12 lb mono/fluro first then look at a reel with an MGL spool if that doesnt help. Im currently using a Dobyns Champion 705 CB and it works well the 1.5 squarebills and 3/8 oz spinnerbaits. Note I am using 12 lb p-line fluoro and a Daiwa Tatula Limited SV TW.
  17. Not specifically BFS reels but they handle small baits really well. Daiwa Alphas SVTW 800 Shimano Metanium Shallow Edition Daiwa Tatula 70 SVTW All will hold more line than traditional BFS reels and will hold less than normal reels
  18. They sent me two replacements.
  19. Interest because im the total opposite. I want mine hitting the bottom and hunting. I dont want it plowing ditches lol but i like a lot of contact. In addition you develop a feel that helps you realize the structure is something ur going to get stuck on and at that time you stop reeling and let the bait float up so you can work ur way through it. This often draws a bite and doesn’t work every time either. If ur coming in contact with the bottom ur going to get hung.
  20. Yesterday Fall Lake Raleigh Nc
  21. Dislike most Texas rigs. I have a fortune in soft plastics and I cant catch crap on a Texas rig. Cant stand a shakey head. I have fished this some much over the last 3-4 years and have received 2 bites. Doesnt work is an underspin. I have had zero bites on these to date.
  22. I hope this isnt a thing...I just started buying the translucent ones. Id have no clue on the painted ones unless they filled up. One filled up about 1/4 of the cavity. Other one was just a 1/10th. The one that filled up 1/4 of the way was definitely not retrieving well.
  23. Yep I just did. They want pictures which I sent. I did order them from the same place and she said they might be a bad batch.
  24. I caught a nice one yesterday clanking off a tree limb and it immediately got snagged on a branch. Somehow the fished stayed on but I had to go in and break the limb. I would say half my bites on squarebills are right after I clank a limb.
