Looking to improve my paddle tail swimbait game
Im going to be the village idiot here and say I dont like paddle tails on chatterbaits. Something about this thumping appears to me to affect the action of the paddle tail as a trailer. Love them on jig heads and swim jigs. To me Zakos and spunk shad get more action behind a chatterbait.

New to Rod Building...Please Help Pick First Blanks
D is easier for sure but it wont provide that painted on look. A is somewhat difficult but all u have to so is file your guide feet down for the thread to stack how u want. I prefer B and C. I think Mudholes Pro thread is the only one offered in B i think. Even with B and C ur still going to need to file the guide feet down and burnish. Knowing what i know now id go with B or C

What is your favorite grip
I have been down what feels like every grip option from cork to carbon sleeving only to realize most grips outside of cork and Winn Grips are uncomfortable to fish for hours. I feel by going with cork or Winn Grips Im sacaraficing sensitivity for comfort but working a jerkbait on anything else is uncomfortable. What is your preference

New to Rod Building...Please Help Pick First Blanks
I would think the reason people are having issues with the ridged blanks is they are using size A thread which a lot prefer. I use size B and had no issues with the ridges on my Zentron I built last fall. Its a great crankbait blank. They gave me this for free as I had an issue of getting grips I ordered for 9 months. I am grateful for their generosity but issues I have read here and my own experience with the grips turned me off. I build on Rainshadow and RodGeek blanks only. I have had some Raindshadow RX8 blanks (Current Immortals) for 10+ years with no problems. I have built on their current Immortal blanks, Bass & Inshore popping, and Eternity blanks. I have had no issue with the immortals and I love the inshore popping series. I did buy 8 eternity blanks over the last 24 months and 4 of those broke. I bought them all together so maybe they were damaged when shipping or from the factory but I wont use that series ever again. Rainshadow typically only warranties their blanks if the breakage happens quickly after the build as they told me defects happen quickly so if breakage happens after several times using they consider it user error. So from now on I use RodGeeks primarily Carbon 2/Bass 2, Carbon 4/Bass 4, Bass 3, Bass 5, and inshore. I will continue to use the Rainshadow Immortals as well. The Rainshadow Immortal Inshore Popping series are great multi-use blanks as they have a moderate fast action and are available in heavy, medium heavy, medium, medium lite, and ul blanks. Huge fan of Rodgeeks Carbon 4 and Bass 3 series. Only issue I have with RodGeeks is there are not enough moderate/moderate fast action.

Hack for Storing Jigs
I did something similar this season but used a portfolio binder vs a bag. Only issue I ran into occasionally was sharpie ink smudged so I couldnt read and little bags blew away if i wasnt paying attention.

I love mine. If the xh goes on sale I’ll probably get one and see how it would work as a jerkbait reel. Im using my 800h (10lb fluro)which is 28 ipt for small cranks like Frittside. Casts great and plenty of line left on.

Who ties an FG knot?
U in Raleigh? Im in Apex. Fish Harris and Jordan most the time

Who ties an FG knot?
I do on every braid rig I use. At first it seems overwhelming but now I can do it in my sleep. Using the flex of the rod to hold the braid tight while you are doing your wraps is key.

A-Rigs
Oh and I like the Keitech 3.3

A-Rigs
You can spend a lot of money on A rigs. I have found that the Yumbrella Jr and 6th sense A rig work just find and are pretty cheap. A lot of guys swap out some of the hardware but i havent had issues either yet. I like to run 1/16 lunker city jig heads on the top two and the middle wires and 1/4 oz on the bottom 2 wires.

Crankbaits…where to start?
With the water cooling I would start with some Frittside 5's or Rapala Otts Garage Slim in shad patterns. Last two times out I have had a lot of success with the Frittside 5. Water temps have been 68-75 degrees. If fishing deeper waters I would get Rapala DT8, Rapala DT10, and maybe a couple Rapala DT14. I personally have gotten annoyed with some Strike King crankbaits not tracking the way they should this year so I would look at the Lucky Craft 1.5 Squarebills, 6th Sense 50 size square bills, and the Rapala Roccos. Also a big fan of the new Berkely Dime (6, 10, & 15). I havent caught fish on them yet but they look amazing and do what they are supposed to when in water.

Daiwa Alphas SV TW 800
Got one of these in a hope to throw smaller crankbaits like Frittside 5 and 5 Jrs. Paired it with a medium light rod with 10 lb fluro and this reel does phenomenal job of throwing these lighter cranks.

Do you think buzz baits are effective for river smallmouth or do you find other topwater presentations more productive?
I have done ok in the New River for smallies using a buzzbait. However i have had way more luck on a tiny torpedo and a pop-r

rainshadow eternity RX10 blanks
I have built on this blank a few times. I like Rainshadow stuff. I have built on their fly blanks, surf blanks, and bass blanks for 10+ years. The last order i made of Rainshadow blanks included 5 Eternity Blanks which I built. 2 of those blanks broke in normal fishing conditions and not user error. Getting warranty replacements from them is challenging so I have been using RodGeeks mainly over the last 18 months. Their Carbon 4/Bass 4 is very comparable and they have a no questions asked 5 year warranty. In addition I have grown to like these blanks better.

Crankbait addiction
Absolutely. Alex Rudd had me buy a whole box of Money Badgers. Ben Milliken Wham fishing got me into 6th Sense Could 9s and Tactical Bassin got me to buy River2seas DD and Megabass Deep Six. Im not sure but someone here got me on to Azuma Timmy Horton Z Boss. Strike King and Rapalas speak for themselves. I think if I had to chose one crankbait to fish with for the rest of my life it would be a Rapala DT 10 in Green Gizzard Shad, Smash, or Citrus Shad

Crankbait addiction
I have tried some glide baits and some big paddle tail swimbaits (IE Magdraft and Cull shad) and i am kind of glad I haven’t had any success because I cant go down that road financially. I thought the same. Its bad and it shows how fiscally irresponsible I am
