  1. I checked and 4 of the 6 weights are free to engage on my Abu Garcia 4600 C4. I have been practicing in the back yard and can repeatedly cast 70 feet or so. My questions are: 1. Will I get more distance or better performance by dropping down to only 2 weights engaged instead of 4? 2. Does having 4 weights engaged create excessive wear on the reel or the weights themselves? 3. If it works, don't change it? Thanks!!
  2. Another thought: How is adjusting the cetrifugal breaks any different than adjusting the mechanical break knob located by the cranking handle?
  3. Who said anything about Berkley Vanish???
  4. I just hate to get a particular type of tech on the other end of the line when I call about tools, firearms, fishing, etc I apologize and will get back to the point. I have an Abu Garcia C3 and C4 reel. My questions are: 1. How do you know when you might have to adjust the internal centrifugal break? 2. How should this be done? Thanks!
  5. Now that we all agree that is a negative tendancy of the fluorocarbon line, the question I can't get past is why use it on a baitcaster? There will always be backlashes (at least for me) once in a while and if the line breaks VERY easily on that area I will be loosing fish and lures ($$$). Before I can the fluorocarbon, is there any last words to convience me to keep the stuff on my reel?
  6. I purchased two different brands of fluorocarbon; 6 lb. for a spinning reel for jigging and 12 lb. for a baitcasting rod. After spooling the baitcaster (Abu Garcia 4600 C4) I have spent a couple of days casting in the back yard. The line seems to cast well. The distance I am getting is good, which I think is more of a product of the reel than the line. However, I have one major complaint. I have experienced a few minor backlashes. None of which required much effort to correct. The problem is that the fluorocarbon line creases easily and becomes weak. After fixing a backlash I can feel the "dents" in the line. After clearing a very simple backlash I pulled on the line in the area of one of these creases and the line broke like 4-lb. mono. I am not going to say the brand name at this time. Is all fluorocarbon this problematic? Thanks!
  7. Ok guys and gals. I'm going to BSP this friday to get a baitcaster reel an rod. I'm looking to spend around $200- $250. I want a good universal type pole. Are BSP reels any good? I'm not looking for answers that say for another 50 bucks you can get this. I want to know what I can get for $200-$250 bucks that will do me good. that for the rod and reel. I'm looking to you guys and gals to be the ones to set me up. Don't fail me!!!! ;D thanks
  8. Hey dude happy b-day. My b-day is Wednesday. I'll be 36. I'm going to the Bass Pro shop Friday. I can't wait to spend.
  9. How soon do you need them? Will be going out this Thursday fishing. Friday to Bass Pro to spend mula. Will take pic both days.
  10. I have red some suggestions on this forum for fishing with a "trick" worm rig weightless. How exactly do you fish the worm? I assume you allow it to sink to the bottom and use a similiar technique as a weighted Texas rig? Thanks!

What's so special about these lures?

  14. The Inferno was made for Dick's. The regular price was $99.99. On sale for $39.99. Just like to know if it is a good reel or not. How about the Shimano Callisto?

Can someone tell me why these baits cost so darn much?
  16. Just to let everyone know I'm not looking for a high dollar rod and reel. It has been a while since I have own a baitcaster and I don't want to spend an arm and leg to get one. I was at Dicks last night and they have many items on sale. They have a Quantum Inferno for $39.99. Also have the Shiman Callisto CVO 100 for $39.99 as well. Are these reels a good starter reel.

Went to Dicks yesterday and they had 4 large boxes of cranks on sale. The brand I have never used so I like to know if these are good crankbaits. Daiwa-Shad Master @$3.50 was $4.99 Matzuo- Fukai Shad @ $1.98 was $3.99 Matzuo- Cho Asai Shad @ $1.98 was $3.99 The also have the Xcalibur Hi-Tek For I think $3.99. This box was mostly full so I didn't buy any. Any input would be great appreciated.
  18. My situation is that I do not want to own a bunch of different rods. I have an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 (5.3:1) and a 4600 C4 (6.3:1) baitcaster. I have a 6'6" Med/Heavy rod that has a pretty moderate action. I want to purchase one more rod to cover all of the bases. So, I guess I need to see what reel should go with what rod and then think about which rod will be best for crankbaits, or plastics, or jigs, etc. (I do have a 6'6" Med/Heavy spinning setup for topwater and jerk baits.) All suggestions are welcome!!
  19. I am looking to purchase a 6' 6" Shimano "Convergence" baitcasting pole. I want to use it for crankbaits, rattle traps, etc. Should I get the Medium Power Fast Action or the Medium/Heavy Power Fast Action? Thanks!
  20. What kind of line? Fireline? I have Fireline on an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 and hated it. It would embed iteself on the spool and backlash constantly. I had to crank the tension on the spool an duse a lot of thumb pressure early in the cast just to control it. I will be trying PowerPro next.
  21. I have a Medium/Heavy (trigger style w/ baitcaster) rod that casts like a broomstick. I usually sidearm the rod instead of using an overhead cast because the rod is not very forgiving. Any suggestions? Is it improper technique or just a brick of a rod?
  22. The only traps that I have had chip and flake off though have been the chrome w/ blue back. They seem to be flaking off just from casting them That's the one I bought!

They all have tunnel vision. They just don't see the big picture.
  24. Bought a few new traps a couple days ago at Sportsman Warehouse. Took them out of the plastic box to show my son and the paint was chipping off. Bad batch or does this tend to happen alot.
