A terrible wake up call
I'm sorry to hear about these two men. I have to say I fish in my boat without a PFD. Not very smart. This is sure a wake-up call. I have already looked in my BPS mag. @ PFD. This sounds like a good thread to start. Maybe if a topic is started about PFD's. Different kinds. How they work. Which one's work the best. Fit the best. Anything to do with them. Maybe a dumb butt like me will wear one all the time.

Pond with "snot" weeds
it makes me so darn mad! I have to pay covenant fees every year to have it mowed. There is an apartment complex nearby and all the dirty butts from there come over fish and leave their trash. The dang geese love the pond and just crap up the place. Now, I have to fight this SNOT *****. I feel better now!

Pond with "snot" weeds
The pond behind my house has this agae/weed something that feels like snot. It seems to be everywhere. How in the world do you fish this mess? I try to find the open areas and seem to do alright with spinners. What other techneques could I use?

what for crappie?
May 12-19 I will be down on Kentucky lake on the Tenessee side fishing for crappie. Hope they are still biting. I heard spawning will be done. I'm packed with all sorts of jigs and will be getting minnows as well. There will be 14 of us going and they plan to eat fish all week. 14 hungrey men + 7 dinners = a whole bunch of slabs! Better be biting!

I finially bought my first baitcaster. The one and only I had was a gift from my father when I was a teen. 23 years later and after using spinning reels for everything I went and bought a baitcaster. This is what I bought. Abu Garcia Revo SX 6.4:1 6'6" Med/Hvy Fast action St. Croix rod NOW IT IS TIME TO LINE IT UP! WOULD LIKE TO PUT ONE TYPE OF LINE ON IT. NO LEADERS. JUST GOOD LINE. THANKS GUYS!

Makes me sick.
I hope that one day I catch a DD or close. It will hang on my wall but it will be her fiberglass clone. I'm glad technology has advanced to be able to do this. What this joker is doing is not sportsmanlike at all. He's acting like a b**ch waving it in front of your face then not sharing. Take a pic, show it around. Be proud! But let it go so maybe one day somebody else can catch her and "take a pic, show it around. Be proud!

You really don't need mega $ to catch bass.
And all this time I was Q-tipping it out! ;D ;D ;D I agree. When my Granfather was alive he would outfish everybody. His tackle was old and poles were of no name. It was his ability and patience that made him catch fish.

Painting your boat..
Go to www.iboats.com . You can find marine paint on this site. My brother and I are restoring my grandfathers 1968 Starcraft fiberglass fishing boat. Interlux or Pettit paints seem to be the best I have found so far. Hope this helps! Let me know what you find.

Reel Damage From Tight Drags & Braids
I smoked a spinning reel last year in Canada with braided line. Tight drag and being too aggressive using the rod and reel to free snags. Four bearings and a "transmission gear" were replaced.

1969 Johnson 6hp model 6R-69M
I set the gap as close as I could to the old ones. They were the original AC Delco plugs from 1969. I read in an article about the 50:1 vs 24:1 fuel mix. I was told that the 24:1 is too rich but would not hurt to go in between the two.

1969 Johnson 6hp model 6R-69M
Last weekend we pull Grandpa's 1968 Starcraft out of the barn. Time to get it up an running. My first project is to get the motor tuned up. BRP.com had the complete breakdown of the motor. 50:1 ratio gas mix. Did read that 24:1 is a better mix. That's for another post. Bought new spark plugs but don't know the gap setting. It has a grease zert on the lower unit. Will grease. Anyone know a good site with info? Anyone know gap setting? Were else should I grease? Thanks!

Trouble Casting ¼ Ounce Crankbaits UPDATED X2
OK, Here's an update: I tried two different reels (Both Abu Garcia's: one C3 and one C4) and three different rods. Two of the rods were 6' 6" M/H fast tips. The third was a 6' Medium Med/Action rod. Neither reel seemed to do any better despite one having 10-lb. and the other having 12-lb. line. Of the rods, the 6' Medium was the hardest for me to cast. All in all, each overhand cast would go about 30-yards Those same rods casting ½ ounce lures work fine. I assume the rods are too stiff AND the line might be a bit heavy? I want to have a baitcasting rod set up just for crankbaits and throwing ¼ ounce cranks us a must. Where to go from here (shopping I assume)? Thanks!

Top Water: Mono or Fluorocarbon?
Would there be any issues with the visibility of the braided line in moderately clear water with adverage cover?
-
Top Water: Mono or Fluorocarbon?
If mono is the way to go, what color? Sould I try for something in green or the like to make it less visible?
-
Top Water: Mono or Fluorocarbon?
I have an extra spinning reel/rod that I want to set aside for topwater baits (Pop-R's, floating Rapala's, Husku Jerks, etc.) Which typ of line would be better, mono or fluorocarbon? Thanks!

Trouble Casting ¼ Ounce Crankbaits UPDATED X2
Ok, Here is an update: I was using two seperate poles and reels: 1. Abu Garcia C4 w/ 12 lbs Fluoro on a 6' 6" MH Fast action 1/4-3/4 Shimano rod. 2. Abu Garcia C3 w/ 10 lbs Yozuri Hybrid on a 6' 6" MH 3/8-1 oz Gander Mt. Generic rod. Both rods were about the same as far as casting. If I tried to overhand the cast, I would drill 1/4 ounce casting plug into the ground about 50-feet in front of me. SidearmI could cast it a mile, yet accuracy suffered... I know the 3/8-1 oz pole is not the right pole, but I might be stuck with it for a while due to funds.... Can it be made to work? Thanks!!

Trouble Casting ¼ Ounce Crankbaits UPDATED X2
I am using 10 lbs (or was it 12 lbs) Yozuri Hybrid. Also, the reel is a Abu Garcia C3. Which bearings inside of this reel should I check? Thanks!

Trouble Casting ¼ Ounce Crankbaits UPDATED X2
I am having trouble casting ¼ ounce crankbaits with a baitcasting rod. Even with a rod rated for ¼ to ¾ ounce lures I have to really muscle the cast just to get average distance. Should I try to find a rod that starts with a 1/8 lure weight rating? For what it is worth, the rod is a 6' 6 MH Shimano. Thanks!

Yozuri Hybrid Invisible Like Fluoro?
No, I bought the clear. It was the only color that I found in the store. I will be trying this out on a crankbait rod.

Yozuri Hybrid Invisible Like Fluoro?
I just bought some Yozuri Hybrid to try out. Since it has been coated with fluorocarbon will it share the same nearly invisible qualities under water as 100% fluorocarbon? If not, is it close? Thanks!!

Adjusting Centrifugal Break Part II
UPDATE: With 4 of the 6 centrifugal breaks still engaged I tried to see how far I could cast yesterday in the backyard. Using moderate effort (not muscling it, but using the flex and loading of the road) I could routinely cast over 100 measured feet. Again, I was using a moderate casting motion, not whipping the rod to get more distance. So how far is far enough in respect to needing to drop down to 2 breaks? How far should the average baitcaster cast?

I WAS WRONG!!!
Dodgeguy, So for a crankbait rod are you going fluoro or keepng braid on that pole?
