  1. This is my main chatterbait rod and I love it. The PA7'2H & Dobyns XP 735 work really well for me too. scott
  2. Them some tanks.....Nice fishes!!! You remember if that 8 was under/at 23"? scott
  3. I use a PA 6'11M+ w/ an owner 7/0 owner oversize offset worm hook w/ 8-13" worms and have great hookup ratio. That Tat looks very similar in specs but I don't have any direct experience. scott
  4. I think this is the real decision, and honestly I think you should have both at some point.... @Captain Phil's M/F spinning rec @ironbjorn's (X)H/F casting rec If the banks you fish are weed choked most of the year, maybe froggin, pitchin, and punching with a XH or H is more useful. If you're dealing with pressured public water that's relatively open, maybe finesse tactics, neds, split shot, drop shot, etc are gonna get more bites. Good luck and congrats! scott
  5. I like a longer jig rod with braid to 20lb shock leader. I use 2 different ones, one rated to 1.5oz and another rated to 1oz, both 7'6. I've had too much trouble with zebra mussels nicking my braid to not use a leader. scott
  6. 3/8oz and skirtless; grub or paddle tail. I've had some success mostly waking them over deeper water in low light conditions. Maybe a trailer upsize is something I should play with... scott
  7. Leaders for me a majority of the time. I have 30 or 50lb braid on all my setups and long mono or floro leaders on all. I just retie like any other bait. Zebra mussels are the main reason. scott

The punisher jigs have exceeded my expectations, highly recommend. scott
  9. Definite agree with 2.5 years of use.... scott
  10. I have this and love it. Super versatile, single hook/trebles, reaction/sensitivity, 5/8-3.5oz, it does all of it really well. I wish they made a 7'6 version, maybe the Mark 56 will be it, but the literature makes it sound a touch too parabolic for me. scott
  11. Obviously a tough decision. Where I fish, you will only see authorities on the water memorial day weekend and maybe a saturday or sunday near the 4th of July. I've killed my fair share of fish over the years, but much less frequently the last 4-5 years since I gave up on the weightless senko in windy conditions. I attempt to release them all, if they kick away and I don't expect them to make it, I'll hang in the area for another 20mins. If they come back up, I keep and eat them, legal or not. scott needle nose pliers are the first thing I need to go fishing up here if I want to practice CR....rod, reel, and baits are secondary.
  12. Thanks! Pic doesn't do justice to the shoulders she had, easy double digits in weight. The death rolls at the end were a little nerve wracking for me and my line. scott
  13. Got out at night for a couple hours and then a couple hours late morning the next day. Night time was the right time for the bass, but this by-catch was fun on a M rod for sure... scott
  14. Count me in as a fan of fishing in the rain. The low light levels definitely seem to help the bass chase down baits. I follow @GreenPig's advice, Go to - My usual start fast and slow down til they eat scott
  15. I'm a fan of both Dobyns and shimano for rods, and don't think you can go wrong with either. I will say, with the sales going on, you might be able to look at Exprides for your price range. TW and ALF have model A's and I think they're exceptional for the price. scott
  16. I have a few PA's; the 7'3MH/RF is very versatile. Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, open hook 3-4" swimbaits, and swim jigs are my primary choices. I also really like it for top water trebles. I also like it for heavier neds, dark sleepers, and finesse football jigs. I've thrown squarebills on it too when I didn't have a cranking rod. In some ways this rod feels like a more sensitive version of the Dobyns DC734 to me. To me, they both fish a little light but definitely can handle their 1oz max. I don't have any diawa rod experience to compare to unfortunately. scott
  17. I've been running the 6.5" spunk shad and a nipped 7" jerky J, with decent success, especially at night. Definitely seems like a dink rejector, lots of 3-5lbers. Hope there's a 7 swimming around my waters. scott
  18. I'm still new to this bait, but switched to a beast hook after a couple missed strikes and I've had a lot more success in the hookup ratio. The hits have been violent! Now is the time for this bait to shine on my water and I'm gonna have to give it some more time. scott
  19. Any polarized glass is going to half the amount of light let through at minimum, some even more. So sure there might be lighter tints, but polarized will never "clear." scott
  20. I have some keitech tungsten round ball jigs with a smallie appropriate hook, but I think you're asking about a more coosa style head. Swimming the beast coast lil' magnum might be a short term alternative with mods, though expensive? scott
  21. I've barely dipped into the DJ 1/4oz finesse jig, used it with a 3.8 keitech and 100mm d walker, on my jerkbait setup. I was able to throw it well, but both those trailers have some weight. It definitely stayed higher in the water at a slower speed. The fish liked it. scott
  22. I've only used it for 4 months, but the 7'2H power pitch is doing great with a fg knot so far. Great jig rod. scott
  23. I don't live in big fish land, but have good success with big baits and working the heaviest, sloppiest cover. It ends up that I like the rod so much for weedless bigger baits that I picked up an A model in 7'6XH when I found one price dropped with the B intro. I like the extra length for casting distance. I've thrown weights up to 2.8oz and felt like the rod handled it well. For me, ice out till ice in, I have this on deck and this year will probably have both on deck at all times. Super versatile for my water and choices of baits. Frogs Weedless swimbaits, ie magdraft, 6-7" STC swmibait, beastcoast creep, 68 Hudd, fatty trashfish, etc Open hook swimbaits - bacca burrito, 6" sg pulsetail 5/8-1oz grass jigs pitched and cast 3/4oz siwm jigs in heavy heavy slop The way I hear about the 7'4H Adrena(never fished it), it sounds more analogous to the 7'7H Expride(have fished it). I've heard disappointment from others using the PA 7'4H as a frog rod. I have disappointment throwing weedless swimbaits on the EX 7'7H, but love it for open hook and A-rigs. scott
  24. I bounce slight slack and drag frequently. I do spend some time looking in shallow water to make sure I calibrate my body to my eyes. In open water or scrub grass, it really looks like a vulnerable and unaware crawfish to me. It also helps me glue to the bottom when working downhill. scott
  25. I agree with @MN Fisher I think the 110's require a specific action to bring out their best. The tip needs some "firmness" to get the action but not too much either. I too wish for the fabled goldilox Expride 6'10. I think the 705cb tip doesn't impart the best action on the 110, but if they hit, you'll land em. If you have a 4 or 5 power fury, you might be able to have both tied on at the same time by sliding the fluke to the heavier power if you're throwing it T-rigged. Nose hooked on the 705cb should be fine. scott
