The gooberment has to pay for its secret projects somehow.?
  3. Start with a medium fast rod. A good quality medium grade rod that will let you detect bites is in the 100-150$ range https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-SHOPTSROD.html?from=basres Same with reels. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/catpage-SHOPTSREEL.html?from=basres I would start with this line. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Sunline_Super_FC_Sniper_Fluorocarbon/descpage-SLFCS.html Once you can use that set up extremely well. Look for a medium heavy rod with a fast to extra fast action. Tackle and gear is a lifetime accumulation. If you buy better quality it lasts much longer.
  4. Roof of the mouth kills them faster. Not by the lips but further back. It happens. Turtles gotta eat too.
  5. Ah the ever touted Polamar knot. Braid needs a minimum of 7 twists. Uni knots are about the most likely not to snap at the knot, but hey you keep tying your polamar. I’ll keep swinging fish in the boat.??
  6. I’ve used Pfleuger forever with no complaints from Trion up to Supreme XT. The President is a nice reel for the price. Trion is more panfish grade. Supreme XT is flawless for everything.
  7. Ditch the leader. If you look at the lines under a microscope it would be like tying rope to a chainsaw chain. No matter what knot you use the braid will eventually saw through the leader. And it never happens on small fish!
  8. I use them also when the fish seem finicky. Fantastic small mouth bait too.
  9. Use a straight shank with a bait keeper. Snell it by running the line through the front of the hook eye first. Increases your hook set ratios and keeps bait on hook. Yes they do but these, for me, seem to work better. Try pinching off the claws every now and then too. Sometimes I do that and really pop it up and down before re-positioning it. Looks like a dying bait fish.
  10. Missle D Bomb https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Missile_Baits_D_Bomb_Creature_Bait/descpage-MBDB.html
  11. Some years the weather just sucks. As a very young boy we perch fished Lake Erie a lot. One year sticks out in my mind. I think we went out maybe 2-3 times all year in the boat. Every weekend was white capped. We fished from shore a lot. Didn’t catch much.
  12. Water is warmer from noon to sunset.
  13. When I bring someone else, I always give them an alternative bait. If I’m paralleling shorelines to work cover, I give them a bait the works in the water they will be in to fish. Some examples; If I’m pitching cover, give them a buzzbait to work the openings behind the boat. If I’m casting a square bill on weed edges, give them a Thunder Cricket to cast over the weeds if submerged or a frog in emerged. If I’m fishing deep water with a crank bait, give them a Texas rig to work the bottom. If you fish with someone regularly, this really gives the area a 1-2 punch. Plus the two of you can really cover water eliminating dead areas faster and waypoint good areas in half the time.
  14. Have a very large tree that sheds an in believable amount of leaves. You can’t rake them all before winters snow fall no matter how hard you try. This results in some bare spots. I just use this. It works great. Seed, Mulch, fertilizer all in one. It grows fast. https://www.farmandfleet.com/products/g--3188-amturf-ultra-lawn-patch-sun-and-shade-mix.html Just get a good thatching rake and seed bare and thinning areas. Water, water, water.
  15. Not trying to lecture you, but. Once you fell in the first time in that cold of water due to weather conditions, you have to be smart enough to say day over. Your young so it’s easier for you to survive hypothermia. That won’t be the case 10 years from now. Try to plan ahead. Get a cell phone carrier. Carry an extra pair of cloths. Pay attention to what the weather conditions are telling you. We want to hear great fishing stories from you in the future.
  16. Works great on finicky large mouth too.
  17. Try fishing it like a swim jig on a 3/16-1/4oz Texas rig near docks. This works even better. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Fin-tech_Title_Shot_Jig_2pk/descpage-FTTSJ.html
  18. Spring open shallow water; 1/4oz jig, tube, wacky worm, 1.5 square bill Summer deep side of weed edges; square bills, rattle traps, 3/8-1/2ozjigs, chatter bait Summer boiling hot, jigs and frogs on docks and buzz bait in between docks Fall; spinner bait late in the day
  19. HOOK SETS ARE FREE I’d rather swung and miss on a rock, log, weed bed, or stump, Than miss a fish. If anything feels mushy, heavy, an impeadment to movement of the bait, or your line looks fun. SWING!
  20. Start with more natural colors for your area. green pumpkin is a great choice for most lakes. Go fishing. A lot. Eventually you will catch some bass that puke up what they just ate. Go buy that color. A lot.
  21. I’ve seen guys fishing homemade boats smaller than that?
  22. I fish a lot of 6th sense cranks. Except this one^. Yet to catch anything on it. The wake80 is my best bait from them in weedy clear water lakes in summer. That bait makes a lot of noise and is best fished just sub surface for my lake.
  23. I would not give up on it. If the pike are eating it now when they are the most aggressive. The bass will eat it later when they are most aggressive. Pike unfortunately are a tolerated species up here. By the way they are delicious if you feel the need for revenge.?
  24. The teeth marks just give the bait character. ?
