He's a pro now!
Man stuff like this is so good to read. 1 you have set a pattern for him, giving him something constructive that will keep him from trouble for years to come. 2 you have set up a common denominator, a mutual ground you and he will share in years to come when sometimes you dont see eye to eye. 3 memories, the greatest of all!! now pics man pics, lets see some of his whoppers!!! great going! Fed up with BPS
Personally I have had nothing but good from BPS. They have even exchanged things for me AFTER the exchange period had ended. Generally orders take just 2 days to arrive. Ive been more than happy with them. Yesterday I found a Mom& Pop b&t here in town that is unbelievable. Loaded with good stuff. I thought I had died and gone to fishing heaven!

Going Fishing for my B Day
What a great way to spend a birthday. Good luck to you. One thing that differs from boating and banking, is that if you find a decent weedbed, you can drift over it! go into the breeze toss out, and just let the boat drift over where you want to fish! Happy bday Recon

Did you ever meet a interesting character?
His name was Ray.... When I lived in Michigan he lived kitty corner from me. I always thought Ray was just a neighborhood drunk. Never had a car, always in stained and discheveled clothing. rather pityful looking guy really. Slight of build, very aged, NEVER sober. We talked out in the street often, and built at least an aquaintence of one another. Minor favors ensued. Rides to the store on cold winter days, occasionally a trip to the bank, or just something as simple as could he use our phone. Ray lived very very simply. At times I became annoyed, I admit. He would come to the door and in his very slow manor of speech would say "Hi Mike, I really hate to bother ya, but can I.....(insert favor needed)" . I always helped when I could, even if a bit annoyed. One day Ray shows up at the house, excited as all get out, and invited me over to "see sumthin". I had never been inside his home before, and I confess was a bit curious. He had a tv, and thats about all except mandatory appliances. Then we went into a study room, and inside was about 100k in astronomy stuff. High end telescope, monitors, and a bunch of other stuff I had no clue what it was. Anyhow, He wanted me to see some solar anomoly or something, and it was pretty cool. We spent hours talking. I asked to use his rest room, and on the way down his hall Noticed some pictures, of Ray, in Vietnam, wearing a Green Beret uniform. That explained alot. I asked him and he said shyly "yeah....that was me long ago......I havent been sober since." He won so many medals it was unreal. bronze and silver stars out the ying yang. And a few higher that are army specific. Looked like the only thing he didnt have was the Medal of Honor. I was dumbfounded. This shy tiny extreemly timid guy was not only one serious bad *** in his day, he was a freeking HERO! Shortly after he was at my door asking to use the phone... Me: sure ray whats up? Ray: oh you know me mike, i was makin fries, and passed out with grease on the stove, and my kitchen is burning. I yelled for diane to call 911 and ran out, forced his garden hose in a window, and managed to get things settled down somewhat. I couldnt believe this guy was so calm about his house burning.... 3 weeks later several days passed, without sight of ray. I went over to check on him, and could see him sitting in his chair inside, knocked and he didnt move. I tried the lock and it was open. Ray had passed in his chair. Now Ive seen some stuff....in the Military myself, but, I am not ashamed to admit I cried, hard, for my friend and what a loss to the world Rays passing had been, even if it went unnoticed. I havent talked about that since then, and dont know why I felt I had to say it here. ray was buried with full Military Honors. A few few calls to the vfw and several other organizations, and his funeral was attended by almost 1200 people. I sit now with tears thinking about my friend. never judge a book by its cover, because somewhere between the pages the truth lays. I apologize for the long post. recon

Best Comedy on the Lake
Not a comedy but boat ramp reality none the less... Some years ago my Dad and I were sitting on the Breakwall at cedar lake in Indiana having lunch. Guy pulls up with 2 little kids (under 5) and a 14 foot jon boat. The wind was HOWLING!! Waves just beating the shore. They launch and he leaves the 2 kids to hold the boat!! No life vests nothing. Little girl in the boat, little boy on dock, both holding on for dear life. Well the boat got away and in his attempt to hold on little man goes in the drink, about 6 feet deep, and hits his melon on the way in on the side of the boat. Their Dad was just staring in disbelief. I jumped over my Dad, ran down the dock and belly flopped on the deck and grabbed the little kids sweatshirt and yanked him back up on the dock...the whole time the boat is drifting away, and the father is slack jawed. I jumped in the lake and grabbed the lead rope for the boat (why he didnt just tie it to the dock Ill never know) swam back and hauled the little girl in with the boat. I was probably 14 at the time, and my dad says....in his usual fashion...."wish you moved that fast when you was doin chores!" hahahahaha Basically that guy won the heres your sign award.

I am very distressed
Im not prejudice either....I hate everyone!!! hahahaha Seriously, there is good and bad no matter where your from. Besides just think, if the city folk stopped coming to the lakes, who would we have to laugh at, and watch launch the boats? That was ment to make laughs, no malice at all. Muddy you are no doubt a brooklynonian, but, you gotta be the hippest country guy from brooklyn ever! Im putting on a central florida get together so get your hiney on a plane!! May 12th!! Ill put ya up here. Recon

V-Tech
I think a breakdown in parenting is a huge part of it. In our society today it takes alot to keep a family afloat. Mom and Dad both with jobs, taking them away from the home. I think this leads to a child not recieving the type of guidence that is proper. I think it leaves them feeling uncared for, in some situations. I also feel vid games, and some of the stuff on tv these days lends to children not living in reality. I also think that parents today dont discipline their children properly. Perhaps that is because they get so little time with them, they want it to be a good time, and tend to look past alot. My Dad used to tear that hiney up!! Of course today thats all but not allowed.... Point is, we knew that when we had done wrong, my parents would react, and punish. There was accountability. Kids now have little to no accountability for their actions. Remember in the Comlumbine case they found all the bomb making stuff in that kids garage? Making those bombs took considerable time, collecting the materials, and making them was no small chore. RIGHT IN THE GARAGE!! How did the parents not see that? Now in the VA case, and I hate to say this, but it seems to me that person was just plainly a mental case. Delusional at the very least. In the charles whitman case, at autopsy they found a large tumor on his frontal lobe, the part of the brain that effects decision making. I think something has to be done to further help mentally ill persons. I dont know what the solutions are, God I wish I were that smart, Im not.

What do you think of the Minn Kota 55 AutoPilot?
I have an mk ap65. I love it. I fish very tight cover alot of times, and have had no issues with it. I would only make on suggestion to anyone buying one, get the co-pilot add on, it is awesome. No more foot pedal!! Keep the footpedal as a back up plan, but try the remote! The only issues I had with the unit is that because I fish almost daily the foot pedals wear out. The inner electronics board will wear. The cost of the new pedal was only 55 bucks, but since I went co pilot not an issue any longer. As for the head turning speed, it dosent turn lightening fast, but I fish tight in in alot of situations, and this has never been an issue for me. Battery longevity is excellent, I can fish for days on end without recharging. Power is great! By the way, mine is about 7 years old, if memory serves me. As for the stow and deploy. It seems ok to me, but I am used to it. Mounting a transducer on it isnt that hard. i have had one on mine since day 1 and have never gotten hung up on anything. The shafts are strong and have had no water penetration issues. I would give mine the complete thumbs up. Just my .02 Recon

Hang on to Your Guns!
Muddy, I can certainly see the dilema. I Think since Maxim invented the machine gun, it like anything else can be motivated for good, or for evil. Unfortunatly I dont ever think we will be able to control the evil side. If a person is going to chose to not abide by law, they will always find a way to be armed, illegally. The solution may lie in making sure our law enforcement is protected, and well armed. In the case of the Bank of America Robbery, in Hollywood, some years ago. The Police were flat out out gunned. There are very stringent regulation in place to own, possess or fire fully auto weapons. Unfortunatly, the criminals dont take much stock in that law. These things are hardly "unrestricted". I had an ffl and let me tell ya....it was expensive, and a real bear to get. Something that struck me in this case in VA. That was not an illegal weapon, it was purchased legally, at least the 9mm was, the .22 who knows. Despite our best efforts to regulate, when evil dwells in someones heart there will always be a method. Something personally that I have thought is that there needs to be much tougher laws for those who use guns to commit crimes, no more bs, no more *****-footing around. You use a gun in a crime it is a capitol offense, mandatory life, and no parole....end of discussion. This should be mandatory!! No more money exchanges between judges and lawyers on the golf course. If you are convicted, see ya, and wouldnt wanna be ya. I dont give a fiddlers hoot if ya fire it or not. The lamset excuse in the world is the old "well I never intended to hurt anyone" make a jury buy that and you just turned murder into manslaughter....ridiculous. Muddy, buddy its a tough situation for sure, God bless our troops and law enforcement! May they always come home safe!!! Recon

I always take my shoes off and roll up my pants, then wade knee deep in the water. Just kinda lookin at the bottom, and baitfish, craws, whatever. It is amazing what you can tell. Besides it gives me a minute to think about my tactics for the day, and besides its relaxing, and I always fish better relaxed.

HORRIBLE TRAGADEY AT VA TECH
niksfishinmom well said. Isnt that the truth you just never know. I dont think anyone will ever or can ever understand when something like this happens. They will make a ton of excuses why it happened. Theyll try to take useless measures to insure it dosent happen again, which are pointless. My heart goes out to these people. What the hell is happening to people these days??

I wasn't going to say anything...
I am sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. It really made me think. My dad is up in Indiana, and solely responsible for my fishing fanatic ways. I rarely speak to him, and over the years we have grown apart. Well I guess your post just made me think about how much time I am wasting. I gave my pops a call, and am flying him down here for 2 weeks of fishing and catching up. In your post it says you werent going to say anything...Brother I am glad you did. Just goes to show you that you never know how something will effect someone. I wish you and your family the very best, and would like to offer my thanks for opening my eyes. Recon

Wacky wormin'
Personally I think wacky is the next best thing to sliced bread. I wacky just about anything, but favor trick worms, and flukes. In florida here I like junebug, redshad, and plain black. I use the circle hooks, and find that on most days and conditions I get a significant increase in bites. One thing to remember, do not set the hook, circle hooks are funny like that just reel down and keep pressure on them, they will hook themselves. Good Luck!!
