  1. @MN Fisher what were you trying to win?
  2. I can't think of any other ones at the moment....sorry
  3. I think there's a strike king rage bait giveaway happening right now on the home page for bass resource
  4. I know my question was kind of off topic, but thank you!
  5. Hey, I noticed that you recommended a rod with an x-fast tip. I've heard sometimes that a medium action is best, but i've also heard that a fast or x-fast is the way to go. So my question is, what is the best rod action for dropshot?
  6. I'd have to say frog. My personal favorites are the booyah pad crasher and livetarget 55T frog. Also, make sure that fishing the pond is worth the trouble. Are there any large fish in it? or is it a bunch of dinks? Frogs are not just summer lures. I've had luck with them in early May and mid September.
  7. Trilene XL and Stren original in clear are my go-to line choices. I haven't really tried anything else because these lines have done the job well for me for years.
  8. I bought my first ned rig supplies to use this spring, I am so stoked for the 2021 MN fishing opener! Nice catch, how deep were you fishing?
  9. I finally got out fishing for the first time since february this morning. I caught 15 or so 5-8 inch bluegills with a slip bobber rig. I caught them on my new UL setup (Okuma Aveon with 4 lb Trilene). This was my first UL setup, previously I had just fished with $15 shakespeare combos. I will probably head out for some spring crappies this weekend. Who else got out on the water last weekend?
  10. Since most anglers are moving towards catch and release only for largemouth, I think that a year round season would not be a bad idea. IMO the legislation will fail, and I will have to be content with bluegill and crappie until mid May.
  11. This is very good advice...that's why I think that I'm going to go with the SLX w/ a 6.3:1 gear ratio that I can probably use also for squarebills, lipless crankbaits, and jerkbaits.
  12. My favorite spring lure in MN for pre-spawn bass is probably a white spinnerbait. Then during the spawn I'll switch to a wacky rigged senko for bed fishing.
  13. Here are the only 3 rods I would use for Bass: 7' MH/F Casting rod for Texas rigs, jigs, chatterbaits, frogs, spooks, poppers, buzzbaits, + spinnerbaits. 7' M/M Casting rod for crankbaits, squarebills, jerkbaits, and lipless crankbaits. 6'6" M/F Spinning rod for shaky heads, ned rigs, wacky rigs, dropshot rigs, light jerkbaits, and jigheads w/ curly tail grubs.
  14. Yes, that is what I have to do because my kayak has only 2 rod holders (and for bass I use 3 different combos). sometime soon I am going to put a few rod holders on a milk crate for extra storage room
  15. Do you think that these reels are well-suited for the crankbaits I mentioned earlier? They seem a little bit heavy-duty to me, but that's just my novice opinion.
  16. These look great for the price. I feel like they would work super well, or you could always go with my personal favorite VMC neko hooks (size 1). Btw, I fish wacky rigs on straight 15 lb powerpro.
  17. When spooling up with braid on any reel, you have to make sure that you make a good start, and the rest is easy. Go very slow and steady at first, and once you can't see the spool anymore, you can start spooling faster. However, listen to some other people's advice + opinions as well as I have only spooled 3 reels w/ braid
  18. to me that looks more like a black crappie than a white, and he is also probably kind of discolored because of his untimely demise
  19. I feel like that if smallmouth were as readily accessible as largies, they would be more popular. A regular 13 yr old kid can catch largemouth in a local pond, but a true smallmouth lake unfortunatley is not that simple. I live in MN, but I still would have to drive maybe 1 hr or more to catch a smallie. (unless Lake Minnetonka has smallies, does anyone know if it does?)
  20. Oh yeah I forgot Pflueger!!!!
  21. True. All of my fishing buddies have one, but to be fair, I see Rangers and Alumacrafts too
  22. It's amazing how many good reel companies offer awesome $100 reels.... If I had enough money I would just buy one of each (Shimano, Daiwa, Lew's, Abu Garcia) and form my own opinion
  23. The reels in contention are the Shimano SLX, Lews speed spool LFS, and the Daiwa fuego. For a crankbait rod, I've done research and I think I'm settled on the Falcon Bucoo 7' Med. Moderate Casting rod
  24. Almost everyone has a Lund up here....I will probably save up for one
  25. I usually take 3, (finesse spinning, cranking, jig/worm/frog) but that depends on what I'm going for. sometimes I only bring one when I'm walleye fishing
