STX GEN 2. GOOD REEL

i have both. and like both of them. seems i can get a little more distance from the patriarch but not significant. when i decided to upgrade my equipment a couple of years ago i bought 1 of each brand. pfluger, abu, quantom, and shimono. the stx is my choice but could not go wrong with the patriarch. if you want to save some money, you can get stx gen 1 for abought 140.00, wich is great considering they were 200.00 before th gen 2. i cant tell any difference between the gen 1 and 2. i am going to buy up a few more gen 1 while they last. (like i really need more reels, cause then i need more rods!) it never ends.

nothingbeats experience. take your time, enjoy the time you take. talk to other fisherman at your lake, lots of people will help and give good info and tips. but try what you think will work. you will soon be amazed how much you do know in a short amount of time.

no your not. i love all the old stuff. dont have a lot. got a couple of old johnson centuries that belonged to my grandpa. not worth alot bu are pretty cool. i can remember fishing with him in the early sixties, the reel would mess up, he would dunk it in the lake and say " it needs a drink, and so do i". it would work great for about an hour after that. after a day of that, grandma said it was time to go to the house.

i have found that generaly when selling a used boat is that your boat is worth a lot more to you than you would ever get out of it. if possible i would consider keeping your boat, (sounds like you put a lot of work and heart in it), and just getting another bigger boat for bigger water. have the motor checked for sure because thats where the majority of the money is. good luck and make it fun.

got a new boat that has a fortrex with tranducer in trolling mtr. it is a dual beam trans ducer. i know the rule of thumb is on a 20 degree cone is 1/3 depth. 10' = 3.3' of bottom. is there a rule of thumb for a 60 degree angle? is it x 3? 10' = 9.9' of bottom. i have fancy stuff but a generic brain. hoping i can catch up someday.

optimax plugs are pretty high. talked to a couple different mechanics and they say that they have aridium or some high dollar metal in them. have replaced them my self and the cheapest ones i could find anywhere was $18 bucks. and that was 2 yrs. ago. mechanic told me they hardly ever go bad just clean them and put back in.

Just boughta new ranger and 2 hds7 touch units to install on it. Unfortunatly its November so i will have to sit around and stare at it for the next 4-5 mths. can set up and play with these units off the boat? i have heard of a adapter to plug in to do it but not sure if i would just be screwing things up or actually doing some good on learning how to read them.

never had any problem throwing anything with gen2winch. always performs well.

for spinning you can get president combos at a lot of sporting goods stores for $79. cabelas has them for $69 now (at least in wichita) i hve 4 of there combos that i use for crappie and 2 i use for dropshot and walleye rigs. good stuff for the money
