  1. a couple days ago i posted about lowrance units for my newboat. since then i have done a bunch of research on all fishfinders and have got myself more confused than ever! can i get some honest opinions on lowrance and humingbird? they both have what i want, other than touch, but what i want is simplicity and trust in what im seeing. my only question with lowrance is i bought a 642 in 08 and itquit on me this year and lowrance wont repair. i hate to drop about$3500 on something is only going to last 4 yrs. thanks for all your help.
  2. should i run 2 transducers? 1 in the hull and 1 up front on trolling motor?
  3. finally decided on a boat now i need help choosing the electronics. i like the hd7 touch and think i would put it on the bow. my query is what unit to put on the console. i want them to comunicate with each other and be able to see pretty much the same thing on both. should i get 2 of the sevens? another thing i was thinking of is upgradig to the 10 and putting a gimble mount on the console. any suggestions or ideas?
  4. i mis-poke on the stratos. its triton that i was considering. i would be looking at the z7 more than likely. rod and tackle storage is my main concern. there are a couple of 2009 rangers available, but $20000 seems a little steep fo a used boat. thanks for the input.
  5. does anyone have any experience with stratos or nitro boats? looking at new boats but dont know anyone who has one. i want to buy local and thats all we have around here. we do have a ranger/skeeter dealer but as you know, pretty pricey. any input would help.
  6. checked with lowrance today. looks like i am sol, they will not repair because it over 3 yrs old. looks like in the market for new one, might as well look at a new boat to go with it!
  7. went to tr last week and the backlight on my eagle fish finder would not come on. i know it was working cause i could barely see. is this something i would be able to fix or would i have to send it in? pretty scarey as low as the lake was and not being able to see.
  8. How do you tell if a plastic bait is a floater? Will it say on the package or is there something specific I need to look for?
  9. no leader. suffix 50# 832. polamer knot
  10. Only brand ive ever used was KVD. Now at can't seem to find it locally at Gander or Cabelas. is Reel Magic or Ardent as good?
  11. just found it.fancy jig head. thanks
  12. I have heard some talk about a "Pigsticker". I do not have a clue what it is. does anyone have a picture or link?
  13. had one since 2005 and not had any problems. runs great, quiet (for a 2 stroke), and fuel efficient.
  14. suffix 832. I got the abu orra reel recently thats made for braid. Fished hard with it sofar this year with no problems. Also put it on the new lightning rod for braid.
  15. All boats are pretty much money pits weather there new or not. By the time you pay for maint, personalizing, registering, and all the other things you need everytime you take it out, its not cheap. I would take way to slow advice. My uncle told me many years ago when i bought my first boat, "take the money you your going to spend on it, put in the bank, and rent a boat when you want to fishing, it will be alot cheaper". He was right! But if its yours, and you enjoy it, it really doesnt matter what it costs. Fish dont care what kinda boat you have.
  16. had to tie mine at top and bottom. not a whole lot of slack. if you get into a lot of brush and trash it will hang up so watchit. end up having to replace tranducer every 2-3 years. not a very good driver.
  17. being " app to go fishing tommorrow!"
  18. grease the gears, oil bearings. completly cean everyting first
  19. i have a 115 optimax also. very efficient, is a real good motor. the oil is expensive, but is a lot cheaper if you get your jug filled at the boat shop, they have it in bulk. the only reason i suggested the four stroke is noise and there are some places starting to ban two strokes on there waters. dont believe it will be too wide spread in the near future but if your planning to keep it for awhile, it may be something to consider. either way your getting a good motor.
  20. all phones in the boat are turned off!
