  1. I’m going on a charter next month on Long Island (stay tuned for pics). Have never been before but plan on tipping 20%, possibly more depending on circumstances. You’re supposed to tip even more than that if they clean your fish for you, but I’m pretty strict in the CPR camp, and will extend that philosophy to saltwater. We have to remember that these mates do this full time, it’s how they survive.
  2. This one will be out of Port Jefferson which is also where I was married. Last time I caught a bride, hopefully this time I’ll catch another prize ?
  3. Pelican’s social media page on FB had a similar scam as it had been hacked (80% off etc) a couple weeks ago. Deals like that for expensive items are almost always a scam.
  4. Underwater drone? I didn’t even know they existed! Very cool.
  5. Next month I will be doing some saltwater fishing. My wife is from Long Island and we will be visiting family. I’m going on a fishing charter for the day, and once I pick up the hang of it I would like to buy a saltwater rod and reel for future excursions (my in laws have a boat). The charter will be present an opportunity for fluke, porgies, sea bass, stripped bass, bluefish, weakfish and more. I have no idea what to expect but all tackle will be provided. Has anyone done these types of trips?
  6. Look what the mailman did to my Bass Pro master catalog. Just arrived today ?
  7. Since the fishing is slow brother, you should just start swinging for the fences and start throwing a frog in the muck. Never know what might hit; one cast could redeem the whole summer. ?
  8. Not sure but pretty confident that would easily beat John Higbie’s NYS LMB record which is 11.4lbs. I don’t think bass can even get as big in my state as the one in this picture!
  9. Ugh, absolutely hate to see this. As fishermen we should be conservationists, and everything we do impacts how people view all of us as a whole.
  10. Good point. The first picture is the best, and was taken by a bystander who was right near me on the bank (thankful for that). The second was a selfie, and you're right, it doesn't do it justice. That angle is fine for the 1-2 lb bass I normally get but I need to learn how to take better photos by myself for the bigger ones.
  11. I’ve been taking my photos vertically with my iPhone, think I have to start doing it horizontal!
  12. Just get a two piece Ugly Stick, hard to beat the durability at that price.
  13. Very cool idea. Is there one for MLF, either here or elsewhere? Never even knew fantasy fishing was a thing!

I like to fish slow and relaxed so I guess in a way that is lazy, but to each their own. Fishing for me is both relaxing and exciting, but then again what do I know.. I have a lot of room to grow and improve on! Tell you one thing though, I’m like obsessed with this forum now. Picking everyone’s brains and reading the treasure trove of information in here is invaluable.
  15. David 7 replied to Josh Ross's topic in Introductions
Welcome Josh, I’m new here too and we have a couple things in common. I too fish either a pond from the bank or in my kayak. I bought the kayak to access more waters (no regrets!) but ironically I still do way better in the small pond from the bank.
  16. The thing about buying a rod online is you can’t tell what the tip is really like. The tip/ ability to set the hook is what makes or breaks a rod for me.
  17. I’ll try this, thanks.
  18. I couldn’t agree with you more. Still can’t see how any other combo will help me catch more fish than my current 7’ MH Ugly Stick combo; sensitivity is good, rod is strong as an ox and it can take a beating. Everything above this is just luxury and comfort IMO.
  19. Sounds like a good problem to have ?
  20. I’m not sure why but whenever I post a photo, it’s always sideways. But when I post in my album it’s regular. These are all photos taking vertically with an iPhone 7.
  21. Thanks Tom, wise advice. Next time if in a jam I will do this. One thing I learned today is to never fish without a scale or at least my measuring tape in my pocket. After getting skunked the last two weeks I wasn’t expecting this. But as they say, you never know!
  22. No length unfortunately, packed real light today on the bank.
  23. Thank you! Good old GYCB #297 WR. Threw right in front of some very heavy cover. Didn’t even feel it but saw my line moving.
