  1. I threw a buzz toad and I caught two fish that each missed it once before taking. This was the better of them. Fishing the nuclear power plant lake on a boat tomorrow, recent reports have some pretty bonkers catch rates so I'm looking forward to a strong numbers day.
  2. Well I didn't get a PB, or even close. But I did successfully catch bass under the full moon. NWS says 36 degrees out, 70% humidity, and 10mph north wind. Caught four, lost two better fish but that's just the way she goes sometimes. Gonna be making my way round some other spots this week, hoping for some good luck.
  3. Got on a dinkfrst yesterday, mostly on an ol monster and a red eye shad. Had a bigger fish hit the buzz toad but it dove into invasive milfoil and got free. Six total in about an hour and a half
  4. I had an elite, I returned it because of a factory defect with the bearings. I returned it for my curado DC instead of exchanging. I regret that decision after spending some time with the DC. If you have the money get the elite 100% or get a JDM Zillion SV, probably the best value. The JDM will be your best flipping/pitching reel of the three. By a mile. If you're trying to keep from spending as much I would get the 100. I just ordered one
  5. I'm a mix, I bomb cast better with the right hand but it feels more natural to retrieve with the rod in my left hand. For spinning gear I tend to cast with the left hand and reel with the right. I've recently started working shorter range casts, I really think that's a technique I have overlooked as a bank fisherman. For that I have ordered a tatula 100HSL so that I can make more casts faster, no switchy. I also have a deep SV spool in the mailbox for that 100 when it arrives. I wanted an SV reel but the Tackle Warehouse sale made the 100 a little too cheap to pass on. I write, shoot a basketball/hockey puck, and play bass with both hands, though some things I am more practiced on one side. Everything else is right handed only, baseball mostly. Can't throw or hit lefty to save my life. I don't really think there's a truly wrong answer for what individuals choose for themselves in this matter. There's some advantages to not switching hands and there's also some advantages to doing what's comfortable.
  6. In support of what Tom said, KIS is a winning philosophy for me with my baitcasters. I have different combos with different actions for fishing different lures. But 5 of 7 combos have 14# sufix tritanium plus on them (frog rod has 65# braid and the near-BFS has 20# braid). Tritanium Plus is cheap, sensitive, and tough as nails, my favorite plastic line by a mile. Having all my stuff spooled with one line is an advantage because I do change what I'm throwing a lot. The consistency in my line's behavior helps me focus on how I'm moving my bait instead of backlashes As far as more combos goes...more the merrier but I try to have a clear purpose for whatever new combos I get these days
  7. I still suspect there was a weak patch of metal in the middle of the screw head...the first two extractor sizes just peeled metal out. But the third one grabbed right into it and it came out easily. Replacements shipped out this morning. Yes when I called I believe they said they had nine clutch levers in stock
  8. NWS said 50 degrees and a 17mph north wind. Sounds like good and easy fishin weather. Chrome red eye shad and a football head jig did the work for three fish. Three bites three pics. Life is dandy
  9. We've all been there bud lol no worries
  10. Had a solid northwest wind which typically equals lockjaw but I had a free hour or so. One bite one catch, ol monster/ol reliable. Ain't much but it's bass The new spool for my tournament pro finally came in today. I'm gonna go out in the cold and throw a red eye shad with it tomorrow because I just enjoy backlashing fresh spools immediately
  11. see this is the only issue I've run into with cleaning my CTs...the first one I did was so easy I wanted to sell some of my lews and get more CTs LOL. The star washer that holds the spool bearing in beneath the tension knob threw me at first but it's a pretty simple pry in/out. I really really like these reels and I find them easy to service...except this particular screw. I even have a salamandura 150 SV spool on the way for this thing. worst comes to worst I'll get a new one but I really don't want to do that just because of one small screw. I haven't tried fiddling with it today yet but when I do I'll post results here. I ordered replacements already from daiwa so hopefully just another week or two and I'll be in business I was using the right JIS for this, I prefer them to a standard phillips, generally harder to cam out than a phillips
  12. i would have succeeded if it weren't for the fact that i failed
  13. I did everything the way I do with guitar repair - I don't think it was my technique. The other one and both the same screws on my other CT didn't have a problem with the same routine. people who strip out the head of a screw are the worst and yet here I am committing the same offense. I've seen it happen on guitar hardware screws before, where it all fits right, but for whatever reason that metal is just weak and gives. I wish I had taken a photo, I had four near-identical bits of metal come off on the indentations in the screwdriver. Just a weak screw or something, too much loctite. I have a damaged screw reverser thing that has a 1.3mm head on it...gonna try in the morning but if it doesn't work this reel is basically a parts reel now. Makes me sick
  14. So I waited weeks to get a new clutch Lever for my tatula ct. As I go to replace it I'm also cleaning and greasing it. I go to take off the main gear, and one of the screws is hopelessly stuck. The head is basically destroyed at this point - I had the right screwdriver but it's like the metal in the screw just gave way. This was my first baitcaster. I'm honestly furious that one overtightened screw is gonna make me wait longer. I'm guessing I can maybe drill it out and take the other one somewhere to find a matching replacement. I was just really, really excited to get this reel working again today, fish with it tomorrow. Not gonna happen. Thanks I'll hang up and listen now
  15. I love those 6th sense 106x but I have had more of them break off a bill than I care to think about lol a recent find for me has been the yo-zuri 3DR-X, found one in a ghost shad color that has caught a few aggressive strikes this month
  16. cool to see another north texas person on here. the biggest bass i've ever held in person was caught on an x-rap in mid february for whatever that's worth. I've never caught one on the same bait in the same spot. But a lot of my vision 110 fish (including my PB) came from the same lake. I'm not so sure it's as much about the jerkbait itself as much as it's about being close enough and properly situated to big bass
  17. Lost the two better bites I had on but that's the way it goes sometimes. Switched from a crawler to a lipless on the same rig and didn't switch up the drag too. Sometimes we get reminders. I still got one bass. I'm ready to get my other two reels back in service so that I can retie less, but neither lews nor daiwa have been quick to ship out in-stock parts
  18. All of my 7+ pounds bass this year came at night, many others 4+ too. My PB smallmouth was landed at 10:35pm.
  19. Went out for a bit yesterday and got onto a dinkfest with the walking bait. This morning I absolutely destroyed a skunk about a quarter mile from the ramp, didnt get any stink on my car. So thats always a good omen. Too windy to fish a walking bait today, so I went for the lipless. First bass and biggest one inhaled a red eye the second it hit the water which made me think I should throw a weightless fluke. I caught 6 more on that fluke. Asked the lake for one more bass and I would leave, so I caught a little one and then bounced. They wanted that Disco Green this morning lol
  20. Don't know much about Welsh but Squaw has some great catch rates near the discharge this time of year. I'll be there 12/1. Granbury is a good one, my rod repairman tells me the golden algae kill maybe improved the size average at the lake. Arlington has some pigs in it Lavon exists Ray Hubbard has some good fish in it If you're willing to drive to Welsh you could maybe check out Palo Pinto Creek, Graham, Martin Creek, Cherokee, Brady Branch, Stryker, Johnson Creek, or Lone Star. I don't know that they're all active all the time but those are a good chunk of the power plant lakes in Texas.
  21. I feel that I have had success through diversity. I have caught decent bass on probably a dozen or more different types of lure since I started in 2021. I primarily fish a lot of different parts of a 27000 acre reservoir. At one spot I might have four or six or ten good things I can throw, some spots and times it's one thing only. I also got bored throwing only a few lures. I think it's all about what works for you, your waters/conditions, and your goals
  22. Dink chillin Caught the only fish I saw today
  23. I have one cheap baitcaster with a cheap bfs spool in it, I run 20# 832 with a 12-14# big game mono leader between 5 and 7 feet long. The stretchier leader material gives better shock resistance for the knots and braid while still maintaining most of the benefits of braid. I retie the double uni and lure knots after a couple of days, between contact with the guides and knots weakening over time it saves some heartbreak. You can use a rod with micro guides but I've found my knots weaken faster with them
