Flat-sided crankbait recommendations
Gonna cast my vote for the crush flat 75 as well. I have a frittside and a kvd1.5f. Crush blew both away at the power plant lake last month. It wasn't close either

I am so sick of this wind I could scream. Tried to go out today and backlashed on my second cast. I might not ever complete a 12-month challenge, January is impossible

Got a story like this?
My PB smallmouth was kind of like that. I was out on the ripraps around 1030pm and I felt a hard strike. After a little fighting I felt snagged, but I could still feel the fish on. Not wanting to rip anything out of anything, I decided to hit the clutch lever and let it just freely take line. After I let it swim a while, I started reeling again. Fish still there. But loose now. I got it to the shore and after catching a look at it I knew I had a PB smallmouth. As it would turn out, there was someone else's crankbait in its lip, and about 10 yards of line hanging off it. I kept the crankbait lol If you look at my face in the photos you can see my disbelief

Loss of family
man you just went through about as tough a 10 day stretch as a person could have. remember to take care of yourself in the aftermath, during grief it's real easy to look up and realize it's been a couple days since you ate, talked to someone, or went and did something you enjoy just for the sake of going. It happens faster than people think

Caught these little beep boops coming back from the pier. 38 with lake effect snow after an inch of rain isn't great bassin weather apparently. Who knew?! I saw bait though

Lots of the Texas reservoirs to your west don't have particularly well defined shallow Creek channels, as they were impounded over land that rarely had consistent flowing rivers or water and therefore gained relatively little depth. Early settlers viewed most of Texas as uninhabitable because of this inconsistency. Add all the silt runoff and your gradients become very slow in some lakes. Roberts is like this. My best bet has been warm shallow water with quick and easy access to deeper water. Most of the catches I'm seeing on the bank at Roberts are on sunny days right up against the riprap. I usually identify the edges of the old creek beds in TX reservoirs via standing timber lines, but I'm fishing main lake access only right now. Water is cold cold and I haven't found anything wandering up the creeks on the sunny days just yet. Not since the bait fest at Cooper back in early December

Tie Direct or Leader With Onetens....?
I use 20lb 832 to a leader that is less than .014 in diameter. Usually sufix siege 12lb, but also liking the tritanium plus copolymer 14# for it. Same diameter but better strength. Using a pretty floppy mojo yak rod. Gotta keep the drag a little looser to give you some of the same give/stretch benefits as straight mono. The Vision 110 at its heart is a finesse bait and does best with smaller diameter lines, lighter drag, and a bit of a pull instead of a pop like a pointer. Responsible for the only bites I've had the last couple weeks

Loop Knots for Soft Jerkbait - Yea or Nay?
A duo lock on a walking bait is an ultimate life hack. Love them on a red eye shad too, allows thump at lower speed

Why didn't anyone tell me that following sage advice was a smart idea? I would have failed if it weren't for the fact that I succeeded

Been on a garbage streak but it happens. Managed a handful on a lipped crank the other day. My friend got me that bait and I finally had the right day to use it. Also discovered the nomad swimtrex max66 3/4oz. Those are excellent lipless cranks, going to be a staple in there with the red eye shad. Technically skunked yesterday BUT I caught an outstanding lesson, which is better than catching anything shy of a PB. I ran into a former record holder at Roberts. He's a bank fisherman and a d**n good one. He caught a 2lb spot and a 4-5lb LM right in my face (I helped him land the LM and took pictures for him, no sulking here). He very graciously shared a LOT of information with me, I did my best to return the favor but he's got a heck of a resume on that lake. I told him he would fit right in here, has that attention to detail and dedication. Always good to meet good people. Gonna get back out midday and see what happens
