  1. I would have a medical event if I caught brown bass like that. Great work!
  2. Lost some today because I was using too soft a rod for the red eye shad. But most importantly, this bass boat rolled up on me after finally sticking a dink. All he really did was backlash while throwing a senko, and then troll away. He said "it shouldn't be this hard" and I told him that it isn't that hard, especially when you don't get rolled up on by some guy in a bass boat with his sonar clicks. Cue the bass in the second photo, and the hasty exit of the inconsiderate boater. Shads are starting to move up for spawn, I had whole schools following my lipless around the ripraps. No predators to be found there today, but soon. Those summer pier nights are near. I finally gave in and bought a green pumpkin jig + trailer after seeing that one the other night.
  3. Found a couple dinky LM at roberts before I committed dum dum and high sticked my tac40 to death. Sucks because I can't replace it, they don't make these anymore. So I got an Abu Vendetta as a replacement, it's similar but not the same. At least it's lightweight and feels similar to the old one. Oh I also yoinked this crawdad off the ripraps last night. Yall think I should throw a Z craw up there?
  4. Dang!! That's a tank! Great work
  5. Got the slump buster out (Creme Maxi Tail + 1/16oz tube jig), caught this tiny spotted bass, 13 black crappies, and 2 bluegill. Had a couple nice size black crappies, nice little barn doors. Bite ended around 2am. Night fishing is good and cool. Have had a tough time finding black bass but that little tube setup at night is basically a cheat code for getting bit. I'll take it.
  6. Thank you Ray Roberts, very cool! Picked this bass up after a hike. Red eye shad got bit multiple times but this was the only one that converted. I was out there for maybe 30 minutes
  7. One of these days I'll have something to contribute again Possum Kingdom was unkind yesterday
  8. Thank you for knowing that! Chicken nuggets are a type of meatball
  9. I have my own foam that I bring on vessels, mostly while the big engine is running or if we're fishing deep (near traffic). As my balance changes over time, so will my habits. For now the PFD exists to give me a fighting chance at survival while unconscious and in the water after impact. I have had my second thoughts about inflatable pfds before. I'm feeling OK about my decision to get a nicer foam jacket. But sometimes even that isn't enough. At some point, eventually it is out of our hands. You can do everything right and still be claimed by an accident
  10. We had an accident on Roberts this week, a guy hit a floating log that was just barely submerged. He was doing a little over 70mph. Killed his lower unit and spun the boat. He was ejected at speed and managed to live and was at church on Sunday. His PFD did not inflate. Life jackets are important and sometimes so is luck.
  11. Wild Card!!
  12. Those talking housewares were people too
  13. I liked the new Dune movie. I was really moved by the plotline of the sandworms. I thought they were going to be more of a problem instead of a weird elaborate bus system sort of deal. That's excellent writing. And whoever made the movie did a good job of making sure I rooted for timothy shamalamadingdong and Zendaya(?) and not for the unnaturally white guys led by the actor who played boris shcherbina in HBO's Chernobyl and his weird son/protege/dude. I don't know anything about Dune and I got to the theater 20 minutes late. 9.5/10 stars could have been longer
  14. chatterbait is also a good option for stained water, and don't be afraid to throw a buzzbait either. Sometimes in those conditions a little flash and crash is helpful. Key word there is 'sometimes'
  15. I think you have more hair than me!
  16. 2/4/6 covers all my needs, though I like having thicker and thinner wire options for each. The thinner diameter wire helps on hooksets from distance. I have had fish bite a red eye shad hitting the water at 70ish yards more than once. Only the zowire sticks them good enough that far away. The difference is actually pretty dramatic at that distance. I also like the thinner wire for walking baits, turns more swipes into catches. The STX38 is just a darn good hook. If I had to choose one model of treble forever, it would probably be those. Has done some great work for me on stripers at lake whitney too
  17. My personal favorite is the JackyHammer
  18. Line guides shouldn't dent or damage finish on other rods without some force behind it. I walk with my rods clumped up in one hand (as many as four at a time) and have never had damage as a result, though I am mindful of how I grasp/lift/etc. Doesn't sound normal to me. At the very least, I've never experienced that with any rods I own, everything from Academy store brand and zebco, to daiwa and st croix. Any chance you might be able to get a good photo of it? Will also be a helpful tool dealing with Berkley. I have never dealt with their customer service but I assume it is probably good
  19. Thank you Shreveport Bass Pro, very cool! Can't believe they had juggle minnows. Gonna throw that around the shallows when I get home and see what happens. I think I'm weirdly just as excited to try the VMC crankbait snaps (not pictured) on a walking bait. I already use a duo lock to make the bait turn with less effort, I'm hoping the thinner wire, shorter length, and wider loop of the crankbait snap will provide even more articulation (action) at the line tie. Will report back.
  20. I know the feeling. You'll have a good dream soon except you won't wake up just as you get to the good part 🤗 I have a brain. It's very shiny. No wrinkles. Perennially smooth.
  21. So far results seem mixed. Seen some catches but my fishing buddy blanked
  22. Basically everyone I know who's off today is fishing the eclipse. The dfw fb fishing pages are nothing but eclipse fishing talk. I'm kinda glad I'm working in Shreveport until Wednesday because I don't want to deal with the crowds. As someone who lives and fishes in a state park area that is in the totality...I'm so ready for this to be over. It's cool and once in a lifetime etc, but all the visitors and extra fishing pressure is getting to me. I miss once in a lifetime events every day without knowing it, that's how nature and time work together. Does anyone want to take this humbug off my back? The weight is real
  23. The accuracy of this analysis is real! Haven't left there without scratching my head yet, I only have so much hair left so I need to figure it out 😂 It gives me an appreciation for how small Roberts is and how little time it took to somewhat figure out a few spots
  24. I definitely left feeling like I would have done better slightly north. I think the south state park area is in that weird lull between bass spawn and shad spawn, I saw some evidence that shads were spawning on the rocks near the dam. One of these days I'll do better there than I have
