Treble Hook Sizes

Featured Replies

I’m sure this has been asked and answered often. But, I didn’t get the right algorithm of search terms to make it…

Brand/model irrelevant, what sizes treble hooks do you keep on hand. Is “all sizes” too broad? I’m about to start upgrading all my trebles, so I’m curious…

Thanks,

Kevin

You're going down a rabbit hole, especially when it comes to jerkbait hooks.

Like @Choporoz said 2/4/6/8 will cover 90% of your typical bass lures.

Owner ST-36 is a good benchmark round bend treble

Gamakatsu EWG for tipped in points.

I prefer the heavy STX zowire hooks for striper

I’ll probably look at the st-36. I’m a bit of an owner fanboy I guess. Their hooks just flat out work. Most of my ewg hooks are in fact gammys

2/4/6 covers all my needs, though I like having thicker and thinner wire options for each. The thinner diameter wire helps on hooksets from distance. I have had fish bite a red eye shad hitting the water at 70ish yards more than once. Only the zowire sticks them good enough that far away. The difference is actually pretty dramatic at that distance. I also like the thinner wire for walking baits, turns more swipes into catches. The STX38 is just a darn good hook. If I had to choose one model of treble forever, it would probably be those. Has done some great work for me on stripers at lake whitney too

Like others have said 2, 4, and 6 are what is used most.

4, 6 and 8 are what use the vast majority of the time for FW JBs.  My 2 favorite hooks are Gami AM TGWs and Duo Nanos, both are O'Shaughnessy style bends.

I use Owner ST- 36's in 2, 4, and 6 but for smaller baits and BFS I use the Ryugi Pierce in 8, 10, and 12. I tend go through a lot of these. I also use Gamakatsu G Finesse hooks for jerkbaits.
