The pier is still underwater, but I was able to get some good size fish out of roberts this evening. It's been just over two months since I caught a fish at this spot, just under two months since it was hit by a tornado. It feels good to be home. Skinny Bass on a slow rolled red eye shad but still the biggest one I've caught since March. The Devil's ugliest 10lb sock on a crappie jig and 8lb test

The pier I usually focus on when it's real hot or real cold out is still submerged, you can see the end of it sticking out of the water in the photo. A couple more feet to go. Nice to get this view again though. Caught a few decent crappies and a bunch of white bass but the LM still elude. Only two since May 30. Not that I've been trying, but it's still up there with the worst droughts I've ever had. Need it to end soon, ideally in a big way.

I have the same issue sometimes if there's a lure that's been getting crushed all week or something. But nothing ever stays the same forever. I used to just look for activity and throw a chatterbait at it, that works well in the spring and fall but gets real boring in the summer and winter. the feeling is much akin to playing slot machines - that next big bite on that bait you love is just around the corner...for six hours. Hard to walk away from that anticipation of dopamine.

There's not really a technique that I feel incompetent with anymore, though I would say I'm average with most things and not much above that. I'm not very good at calling it quits and I'm not very good at being nice to myself when it doesn't go well. I do better in that regard with a buddy, way easier for me to not take it personally if we're both struggling

i consistently agonize over whether i should be throwing confidence or searching with the kitchen sink. i have found the results to be similar when there isn't an obvious "this is what you should clearly throw" situation

I used to think it was less skill but it's really just different skill. Some of the largest bass in the world have come from live bait fishing. There are no guarantees, even with live bait. Knowing where to catch the bait, hook the bait, where to throw it, how to rig it, making sure it doesn't die first, and then still fighting the fish and knowing how to set the hook to avoid a gullet. Those are all skills. Choosing a bait is a skill. I would probably do it more if I didn't drive a sedan lol lures except powerbait smell "better"

I got a corded drill there once. Cordless is nice, but there's something about consistency in torque that just makes me feel some kind of way. Do you think BassResource would judge me if I used an impact driver to service my reels

the heaven hill is highly underrated imo but for just a little more I think mckenna is worth it. I also like the Hirsch Horizon for a cheap daily/30ish% rye bill. Taylor is always good but not always worth the hassle to me. also enjoy the mgp obtanium a whole lot, the obtanium bourbon i got from crazy naz is maybe my all-time favorite alcohol

Interesting wrinkle to this heat - scorpions. I've been stung like four time this year, first time I've ever been stung. It's like an ant bite mixed with a mosquito bite. 3 stars. I also nearly set my whopper plopper combo into a giant wasp nest this morning. Isle finally opened back up but the pier is still under water and the bass are not cooperating. Seeing more bait than I've ever seen this time of year though, so that's cool and good. Maybe this is where I make the switch to Shad fishing. Sounds like good catch to cook video material.

Man I feel you, I was done by 730 this morning. My favorite spot reopened for the first time since May, but no bites to be found. So much bait everywhere, I've been finding it all over the lake the last week, can't throw a rock without crossing a shad and a bluegill. But no bass biting or even making themselves known. I need to get out and night fish but I'm not sure how they're gonna treat after hours fishing with the pier still closed. Normally that means no fishing at night but maybe they'll be chill about it in the meantime. Lake needs to drop a couple more feet before I have deep water access during the day. Worst year of fishing I've had so far, by far
