Storm fronts pt 2
Personally I would fish Tuesday morning before the rain and then twiddle my thumbs until Friday but that's just one opinion

This is a top 5 flooding event on Roberts for this time of year. We narrowly avoided the emergency spillgates in the last 48 hours or so. Water over the road to the old family homeplace. Note that the lake record was caught in 2016 on a guided trip by Dannie Golden - during a lake recession. I can tell you the general area where it was caught, but the spot is less important than its characteristics at that water level. Who'd've thunk it? Channel swings with native creekbed and timber structure. Gasp. Couldn't be transcendental in bass fishing. Not Jimmy!! Couldn't be Jimmy! Also I have to consider the benefits that a lack of pressure in my favorite spots will bring to me when they are back open

All my favorite places are closed due to flooding or tornado damage. Both my favorite state parks took a hit from an EF-3 tornado last week, and Ray Roberts has been closed to all non-boaters since. This is possibly the most significant tornado in my county's history. It hit very close to home - less than five miles to my mom's place. I haven't stepped foot at the lake since the day before the tornado. From the dam I have seen halves of boats floating midlake from the marina, whole oak trees with root balls and green foliage still attached. I have considered going to the unmonitored public hunting lands, but the chances of meeting hogs is high right now with the water claiming land for its own. There was a herd of feral hogs photographed at Johnson Branch State Park within the last week after storm damage. So I have fished two places. On Memorial Day i was privileged enough to visit a private ranch where the church I run sound for had an event. I was lucky enough to catch 16 fish between 9am and 2pm. 8 on a one knocker spook, 1 on a whopper plopper, 4 on a popper, and 3 on an A-frame. I missed 9 other topwater blowups. 24 strikes will raise confidence enough to handle mother nature for a short while. I also caught two snakes and a turtle on the bone one knocker spook. Apparently this is an accomplishment or something, but for me it was more of a nuisance. No venomous snakes just shad noodles. The biggest fish was maybe 3lbs but had the jaws of a 5. Despite the high water of the ponds and abundant bluegill, I caught many fish who looked both spawned out and also hungry. I took particular pride in more than doubling the next closest fisherperson at the event, who had 7 fish on 7 strikes, primarily senkos. Their percentage is a goal of its own for a senko bite, but I chose the opposite end of the pond and styles for a few reasons. #1 inflow. #2 bugs above the surface. #3 shade lines. All the older guys wanted to know about my setup and I told them everything they wanted to know. They started this whole thing so they get to reap what I've learned. But none of them asked why I fished where and how I did, and I think that was at least as important as the lures, casting, line, whatever. I thought it was wild that catching bass 15 different ways in a year is "diverse" to the people I talked to in-depth. Lol, boaters or whatever. I went out to a local public pond and casted around the next few days. A small bass wanted my choppo. RIP Dallas Stars

Stop Raining
Lake Ray Roberts was hit by a major tornado this evening. The gas station I stop at on the north side of the lake is gone. The marina is mostly gone. The RV park at the marina is destroyed. I haven't heard much about the state parks I fish at, but I know they were both hit. This is a mass casualty event. Pray or send good thought, whatever, for the people affected by this. The marina just finished rebuilding from last year's tornado. There are people trapped in the boathouses that have broken free. The last extrication at the RV park just occurred. Unbelievable. This missed my home by about five miles. The first time I've ever seen a PDS tornado warning for Denton County. This will likely be the most powerful tornado in our county history

New Article! 4 Ideas for Going Back to the Basics of Bass Fishing
I have to try something, I haven't caught a half decent black bass in over a month and not for lack of trying. I need to be night fishing, this is usually the time of year I start doing that. My main night fishing spot is under about 3 feet of extra water and is closed to the public, though, so it will be at least a few more weeks before I can get to it. I'm so sick of this I could scream

Any hockey fans?
I do think Dallas is a bit beat up after the first two series, that was a rough path. But they have such forward depth that it almost doesn't even matter - losing Roope Hintz is primarily a defensive problem because he adds a lot of speed and a strong stick. I also think it's noteworthy that they basically did those first two rounds with 5D. I think Alex Petrovic and Lian Bichsel may be the shot in the arm the defense needs. Adding a 6th D definitely kept the Avs from going 7 games on us. I hate how they've Honka'd Nils Lundqvist but at this point you need that spot to be eating some minutes and they've made that impossible for him

Shad Disco Pt 2
I had a blast! I appreciate the amount of effort and hospitality @LrgmouthShad put into getting me off the bank and onto some fish! Major lake level changes are always a tough gambit this time of year. Stillhouse is a beautiful lake and Mr.Shad is a heck of a fisherman. He knows that lake as good or better than I know Roberts, it was impressive to watch him pick that spot and almost immediately hook a giant. I am still thinking about that big girl he lost - I saw it jump the first time and it would have absolutely been my PB. As he was fighting it I was pulling up my anchor to go help and take photos, but about the time I got the anchor up she let go on him. I admire Mr.Shad's restraint in his reaction. I've never been that calm after losing a big one. The rod he was using did that thing where it bends all the way over but then straightens out at the tip. One of those signs of giants. Based on what I saw I think we should be prepared for a streak of good fish coming from our man at Stillhouse Squarebill delinquency did occur yet again at the ramp as we were waiting to land. Everything but a black bass on the ol kvd 1.5

Show your fishing holes!
Honestly I'm both ready for it but also dreading it. We've had peeks of it this week but I think it's gonna be a real hot summer. At the very least the early heat indices are going to be high given how saturated everything is

Beating the Vegas Loopholes was an excellent experience. I would love to see them wrap up this Colorado series in five. I've watched the Stars since I was a kid and it's been nice to see them be good for a while recently

Any hockey fans?
Resurrecting this dead thread to say Go Stars! Lol Even with roope hintz and Joe pavelski being basically invisible they're still rolling. Look out if they bring in Bourque or Bichsel from the black aces squad. Would probably be a shot in the arm for an already solid team. I am sad about what happened with Val Nichushkin. Of course decision-making is important but addiction doesn't really take time off. I met him in his draft year, he was such a nice kid and it's really a shame what's happened with him

Got out on the buddy's boat for a couple hours after a big rain. It was slow but this warmouth wanted my jig real bad. I caught one other tiny spotted bass. It was just good to get out and fish
