Fishingmickey
Did you get caught in the blast that went through Wednesday late afternoon/evening? I saw the line of storms replayed on the 10:00 pm news. They mentioned hail and how severe it was. FM
Super User Catt Posted May 23 Super User Share Posted May 23 East Texas has gotten its fair share, all the lake, rivers, & bayous are up. We have also been experiencing strong south winds which has all the coastal waters backed up making the levels even higher. In spite of that Rayburn & Toledo are on 🔥!
Super User Mobasser Posted May 23 Super User Share Posted May 23 We've had a lot of rain here also. Everyone's complaining. My prediction is it will stop and become blazing hot, with high humidity. Then, folks will complain about that too. 5
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 23 Author Super User Share Posted May 23 @Mobasser Missouri is the driest heat I’ve experienced. We get some humidity here where I’m at in TX, but it is nothing compared to farther East and the East coast in general. Heat in general sucks, but I was in Missouri when it was constant triple digits a couple years back and it was not bad at all.
Super User Catt Posted May 23 Super User Share Posted May 23 High water levels, triple digit days, afternoon thunder storms. Sounds like it's time to start night fishing.

Its been drought here for 4 of the past 5 years once summer gets here. I say let it come and keep the lakes, rivers, and ponds full. We've had our wettest spring here in MN since 2019 thus far. People who complain about rain obviously haven't experienced a drought otherwise they wouldn't make such foolish comments. At some point the heat, humidity, and sun are going to take over in an unrelenting, oppressive pattern. I dread when that happens.

I'll take some rain over oppressive heat most anytime.
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 23 Author Super User Share Posted May 23 The storms were a doozy and continued into this morning. We were in tornado warning for the evening and unfortunately one did touch ground and some were not so lucky… 8 hours ago, Fishingmickey said: Did you get caught in the blast that went through Wednesday late afternoon/evening? As far as the individual storms, I’m having trouble keeping track of them all
steve carpenter
At least it filled our lakes. We have had drought conditions for a long time. Will bw curious to see its effect on the hydrilla on Stillhouse Hollow. Before hydrilla it was clear rocky and the fishing was harder with smaller fish. With hydrilla there are many DD being caught.

The hydrilla has taken a bit of a toll due to all the rain. I don’t have any guesses on how it will grow once things stabilize but it is definitely too turbid right now. The hydrilla definitely helps and to be a good fishing place, it needs to stay. But, there is a good amount of timber in Stillhouse for the fish to relate to while we are in this crazy period. Super User Log Catcher Posted May 23 Super User Share Posted May 23 It is raining here now and has been off and on since yesterday. They are expecting severe storms here tonight and again on Sunday. Then we get two or three more days of rain next week. The way it is going it may be the middle of July before I can get my boat out again.

thediscochef
Lake Ray Roberts was hit by a major tornado this evening. The gas station I stop at on the north side of the lake is gone. The marina is mostly gone. The RV park at the marina is destroyed. I haven't heard much about the state parks I fish at, but I know they were both hit. This is a mass casualty event. Pray or send good thought, whatever, for the people affected by this. The marina just finished rebuilding from last year's tornado. There are people trapped in the boathouses that have broken free. The last extrication at the RV park just occurred. Unbelievable. This missed my home by about five miles. The first time I've ever seen a PDS tornado warning for Denton County. This will likely be the most powerful tornado in our county history

Hopefully this rain pattern cuts out soon because this is a realistic outcome in the next couple of weeks without a pattern shift. Getting pretty sick of not fishing any of the local lakes because the parks are all flooded. Meanwhile there are a few ramps open so the boaters just have to worry about lines and floaters. Sure wish there was accessible water worth fishing within an hour of me.

Trox
For the love of all things can Choke Canyon and Canyon Lake get some of this "rain" that y'all speak of?!?!

If I could transport seven feet of Ray Roberts I would. She's way full, we're officially into top 5 historical flood territory up here. Lake Ray Roberts is completely closed, no traffic allowed. They can't release water downstream because there's nowhere for it to go. We're about 5 feet from cresting the emergency spillway. Thankfully we get a break today and tomorrow, but Saturday is predicted to be stormy. I'm ready to go fishing again already.
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 7 Author Super User Share Posted June 7 Stillhouse Hollow is dropping at a swift pace, but news authorities claim cleanup is necessary following water receding before the lake can open. I think we are another month or two out from the lake reopening, and even that could be optimistic. The season is young

Super User LrgmouthShad Posted June 19 Author Super User Share Posted June 19 I PREDICT Stillhouse Hollow will reopen some of its ramps in a short two weeks or less #optimism #freestillhouse
thediscochef
I am optimistic that Roberts may open before August. They finally opened the spillgates this week and it's dropping. So far about 6" down this week. It needs to drop about 3 more feet before they can let ramps dry out enough to reopen.
