Man I haven't caught a fish since the 8th. I think I've had two bites in that time. Doesn't help to go through a breakup and start new meds. Whoever said I couldn't catch the broad side of a barn in Winter was right. I'm considering buying a single bass from my local pond shop just to remember what it's like 😭 Glad to see I'm fairly alone in this boat, honestly !

any guitar players here?
Got my attention with the Tele bass. That's a rarity. Ive only seen a handful from my days at the luthery. Would love to see it. I'm not an amazing guitar player by any means but I'm a very capable rhythm guitarist and beginning to grow into leading. I'm a better vocalist than guitar player. This is the band i am in with my fishin buddy, I'm on bass and all the high up vocal harmonies

any guitar players here?
I am a bass player but I also have guitars. My favorite guitar is my dad's old highway one strat, blonde color. No mods. Gets run through an AC50. all of my basses are modded. My favorite bass is my P Bass. I installed lollipop tuners, a '63 Pure Vintage pickup, pickup cover, NOS pots, unfinished brass saddle bridge, and NOS cellulose acetate pick guard. It's my baby. I play it everywhere. The rickenbacker is a close second but it is my metal bass and kept in Drop C with .060-.120 stainless + hipshot bridge. Purple bass is a swamp ash jazz bass body with a roasted maple neck, an original bada** II and a lollar precision 90 pickup. It is my idea of the perfect bass, based on the Mark Hoppus signature but with the desire to fix a few things and add some premium items. Body is warmoth, neck is from Fender. Assembled, wired, and set up to professional specs by yours truly from top to bottom. Leaned against my Super Bassman and matching 410 Bassman Cabinet. Not pictured: Fender Starcaster Hollowbody bass, Fender Jazz Bass

How many days did you fish in 2023
At least 120, I didn't go more than a week without throwing lines this year if my memory serves

Are you a hammer?
I've been thinking about it and I think I'm like one of those big inflatable hammers that squeaks when you bonk people with it

Show off your Stuff
Put hybrid ceramic bearings and SV spools in both my Tatula CTs. Initial results says its like putting 750hp into a '94 Civic. I'm not complaining; I'm casting very far with basically no effort

What are your local ratios?
for every 0 bass i catch, i have caught 0 bass. I tried to change that today and i would have succeeded if it weren't for the fact that i failed

New baitcaster problem
I mean how geary are we talking here? What level of clicking? Is it like the sound of something stopping type of click, or like a gear grinding sort of click? There's more information needed to even be able to make a proper guess. I'm no expert but I'd think if it's super mild and not an obvious mechanical problem with the reel, it probably means the reel liked the tolerances where it was at, and opening the reel changed the placement of everything by just enough to annoy you and make you post about it here. If it sounds like gears misaligning or a hard mechanical click then we've misassembled the thing and that is a different matter. gears get geary because they're gears and they are in gear in your gear imo you've disturbed its slumber. 10,000 years in the cave of wonders ought to chill things out

How many lures?
This is the list of every style of bait I caught bass on this year that I can remember. I don't carry alllll of these, but I do carry most of them. A lot of the riggings use the same weights and beads which helps. But I don't really travel with less than six combos. I carry about four when I get out of the car, don't like having more than that unless I'm gonna be parked and picking a place apart for a while. I did just get the KastKing carryall 81L, that holds six rods and six 3700s. I want that to be like my golf bag but for fishing the pier all day. I only really buy new lures or styles of lures if I wear something out, or if the season dictates 😂 red eye shad/lipless t rig c rig buzzbait crawler popr walker chatterbait shakey head jerkbaits wacky rig lipped crankbait whopper plopper skirted jig A-Frame swimbaits

Latest Catch Pics Thread
We identify bait and fish very similarly, if I'm not seeing signs of life I get real wary about even being at my favorite big water. Currently trying to get gassed up to go fish in 40 degree bluebird sky, I'm struggling LOL. At least it's not blowing 30 out like it was all weekend

Bob Sandlin Winter Fishing
I was there in October, definitely accurate with the water clarity, though it's likely clearer towards the dam and in the deeper water. The muddy shallow water warms up faster with direct sun, so on these Bluebird days if you can find a muddy spot with easy access to deep water you're probably in business. Something where the shore faces south will warm up earlier (less shadows). Roberts gets similar water clarity in the creeks with the same/greater depth average Can also just try to follow the bait; I was at Chapman/Cooper last week and the shads were going bananas in the shallows near the north state park boat ramps after the sun was up for a bit. Probably a solid 4 acres of shads jumping. We only found a few bass around then but still, better than no bass

I fought the monkey hard today, I almost came away with two 110s myself. Now I'm second guessing my compromise with that little bait monster

What do You Consider a Long Cast?
Jig: 1/2oz 50yd Crankbait: 3/4oz Red Eye: 80yd Lipped (kvd 1.5 squarebill): 45yd Ned rig (1/16oz+plastic): 35yd Buzzbait 3/8oz buzztoad: 40-50yd Spinnerbait 1/2oz+blade minnow: 50yd Jerkbait vision 110: 45yd T-rig: depends on the weight and plastic and peg. 1/4oz w mag II I'd say 45yd. 3/8oz w z craw 60yd I learned to bomb before I learned to pitch, I go for distance with everything definitely to a fault. The one bite I had today was 15 feet in front of me lol I throw the red eye shad better than I throw anything else.

New Braunfels Fishing Spots
It's slim pickin down there for good bank fishing, not as easy to find a spot as it is north and east. Canyon lake exists but you're pretty much limited to boat ramps. I found it useless to try and make that work. Lake Dunlap just recently filled back up after the dam failure years ago, I don't know if it's worth fishing or not though. Might check out Landa Park on the Comal or maybe some of the Guadalupe public accesses. Not much in the way of public ponds in Braunfels, most if not all of those are on golf courses or private property

The big debate on live scope
- Suggestions for baitcaster tatula vs curado vs slx
So I have a curado DC, tatula 100, and CT. I like the 100 a lot. I have it for my pitching/flipping combo (off hand side) and it is a great reel. It's a little smaller than the curado and the CT so it feels better in my hand, but not everyone has that experience. Any of those reels you listed is gonna work just fine I just like the feel of a tatula 100. I also really love the lews tournament pro, its the lightest weight reel I own and it's super comfortable to palm. And it throws everything Honestly though the best advice I can give you is to listen to what @PhishLI has to say about reels- What Have You Learned ?
- Not many PB threads
I set my PB almost one year ago (7-10, 12/19/22), flirted with it a little this year (7-1, 7-1, 7-5), and had some other nice fish. But I haven't quite been able to get a new PB past that finish line. I believe I may have lost one or two fish that could have been PB class. Gonna be throwing that jerkbait around in the remainder of 2023 to see if I can make it three straight December PBs. But I gotta say. I'm a realist as much as an optimist. It's possible, if not likely, that I will have a rough go of the next three months- Latest Catch Pics Thread
So I went to Squaw Creek today. The dynamics of a nuclear power reservoir are interesting all around. The hot water coming from the plant had water temps as high as 82 and as low as 70. But not any lower. The fish we caught were warm to the touch. We had a handful of things working against us, I caught all of three fish in the back seat for the day. Bluebird skies, 10-20mph northwest wind, and practice day for multiple tournaments on Sunday. I think the very first spot we hit was the only one we presented first at. Very high pressure and very little variation in cover. I've never seen that much submerged timber in such a small lake. The high water temps of summer kill off any aquatic vegetation. The only real ripraps are the dam. There's so many tilapia beds the sidescan looks like a golf ball. It's just a funky place, I've never been somewhere like that. It fishes so different, yet the same as my other spots. I also caught my first lipped crankbait fishes so that was cool. I can see why that bite can be so addictive...when the freight train hits that squarebill it's money. My buddy caught 10 and that's closer to what we came for. I enjoyed the guide he hired; did the guiding part right. We left happy albeit maybe a little disappointed in the catch rate, but the more controllable parts of the experience were done right. And that's what that's about in my mind I'm still more comfortable at roberts than I have been anywhere else and I can't say I see that changing any time soon- Latest Catch Pics Thread
