  1. I'm ususally picking just one of those characteristics to enhance at a time in muddy water - if I'm adding flash I don't upsize, if I'm adding size I don't add noise etc. One thing at a time imo
  2. yeah there are some unfriendly parts of texas that wouldn't react so well, either. And those mannerisms won't serve the kids well later in life. but I can always be kinder and better than I was today, I'm focused on that.
  3. I get the feeling that level of clarity fluctuation is very believable for Mr Catt. Mostly because it's believable to me, because I've seen it. And if I've seen it, he's probably seen it 10x more
  4. I'm picking up what you're putting down here 100%, we have very similar patterns in DFW
  5. I would put a new tiptop guide on the broken rod and see how it works out unless you just have the cash burning a hole in your pocket
  6. I enjoy clear water but there's not a ton of it close to home. Best I usually get is stained with visibility to 6-8ft max. I hardly ever see a bass before it's got a hook in it
  7. did somebody say weightless flukes? this seems like a good time to bring up weightless flukes
  8. I have planned testing this philosophy heavily this winter. Doing the opposite was a big bust last winter as you all know. I'm sure I'll still use a 110 somewhere but this year I'm probably throwing A-frames and topwater up into the shallows on the kinds of days you describe. Very "think like a fish" logic. Good post/thread starter, +1
  9. I've never done it. my secret? I don't own a boat
  10. Theres a state park around here with a lake in it. On the dam of that lake, there is an educational plaque thing about Uranus. I don't know why that's the spot they chose to talk about Uranus. But it's there. I learned about Uranus at Purtis Creek State Park, with my buddy
  11. honestly though. embarassing for everyone involved. me for engaging, them for having wrinkle-free brains
  12. Had some high school kids troll over to me after I caught this, casted within 10 feet of me. I usually don't engage but I wasn't feeling it this morning. They tangled with my line so I clipped theirs. I found it unwise to continue engaging with minors. They decided to park dad's basscat directly on top of where I'd been casting for a solid 30 minutes. I left. They got a good laugh out of forcing me off a spot. Teach your kids how to act. I didn't deserve this. Stupid morning
  13. Didn't the water in California rise by 20+ feet in most of their big bass lakes? I'd think that would have at least *some* effect on the density of populations everywhere just from a geometry perspective. I do sometimes wish I had been born in time for the heyday of this activity, the stories about castaic/casitas and fork in the 70s/80s/90s are things I will never experience. Texas does a good job of managing the bass genetics here but we have issues imo - it's not any one single issue that kills giant potential in texas, but rather a team of problems that all pretty much stem from ignorance or a lack of research the only piece I really get annoyed with is the totally clown-shoes, jokerman-font nonexistent levels of bag limit enforcement down here. When there are enough people, they are part of the habitat I digress I'm gonna say it's the rise in water + poor quality runoff + what sounds like a total lack of management causing the disappearance of big bass at casitas/castaic. But I'm also just some guy who is up way too late
  14. A buddy of mine runs the suspending 80 a lot, he says it dives 3-5' while retrieving but suspends as soon as you stop it. They don't float, you will get some initial depth when it lands in the water
  15. Found a small jerkbait bite today...some superdinks and this one decent fish. Went to Lake Athens last night and fished a spook, had four blowup just the one small hookset though. Got some work coming up this week so my time around water will be limited finally. I'm not complaining
  16. I've never owned a boat, and "best" of anything is entirely subjective. for me, it is the Allison XB21
  17. this is relevant to the experience I had with my tatula CT...the spring behind the star drag stopped me up for a minute. I had the square nut on backwards, spring seat facing in and didn't realize it. doing something for the first time in a hurry is less than ideal for my success. Gonna file this away for when I do my curado DC
  18. First ever fish on a skirted jig. Slammed it up under the pier in about 10-15fow. Had to pack up and go after that but it was nice to add to the list of lures I feel capable with
  19. Mag II strikes again. Chilly morning, it was 36 degrees and about 10mph wind when I got there. But close to 60 by the time I left. Hopefully we stay warm for a bit after this cold snap
  20. Should be a high enough bass per acre that the pressure won't matter for a bit. We'll see if it fills up in enough time to make the tournament. I wasn't trying to rain on your parade, I just know that the tickets they're issuing to people on Bois Darc illegally are not cheap. Texoma is a great lake, I like flipping the docks around the state park. Good sheltered area. Great for kayaking just gotta stay inside the buoys. I had a 4lb there a few months ago that was being chased by at least two more just as big. You ever fish Lavon? If you ever wanna learn Ray Roberts shoot me a DM. I don't have a boat but the access to that lake is unparalleled in texas for its size.
  21. you and the entire rest of the state Bois D'arc is going to be crazy busy, it's been hyped up so hard and is close enough to DFW that I expect the ramps to be a madhouse for the first year or so that it's open. On other local forums it's like the only thing people really talk about much. I don't expect really big fish to come out of it for a few years at least - gotta get some of the smaller, faster fish out first. But I do anticipate an excellent trophy fishery here faster than the other lakes when they opened, and a higher overall bass per acre than its surrounding lakes in time. I would use caution on a kayak when it first opens but your catch rates are probably gonna be higher than anywhere else around at first. I wouldn't do this. The lake is not open to the public yet. Using Bois d’Arc Lake for recreation prior to its opening is considered trespassing and law enforcement may be notified. From what I have heard, those who do trespass will be fined, it's less of an "if" and more of a "when". I know those NTMWD guys to be highly unpleasant if you're breaking rules on their property. Ask me how I know 😃 Proceed with extreme caution if you do so at all
  22. I've wet lines all over the world but I've only ever really done well in Texas. Which is good because I live there. I've only ever fished freshwater in Texas
  23. this discussion about scales is wild to me, mine get wet all the time and I'm only on scale #2...not because the first one died (it's just a little rusty), but because I wanted a smaller one for when I don't carry my tackle box. New fear unlocked
  24. Went out yesterday to see how I did at breaking down my baitcasters and regreasing cleaning etc. Very little disappointment there. And I caught this little bass while I was doing so. Had a few other superdinks hit the red eye shad but no landings. First mag II fish
  25. It's warm enough right now I could do it but still Nah
