The entire DFW metroplex is basically some version of this, for dozens and dozens of miles. It could have been done so much better, but single use zoning with huge parking minimums is the primary state of existence around here - leads to enormous parking lots that will never be full, and entire swaths of city without any kind of food options within a reasonable drive, bike, or walk time. It's the dumbest form of development

People wonder why kids don't play outside like they used to, but create public spaces that look like this:

DFW's been expanding since I was born, even in the last few years I have seen a rise in visitors to Roberts. I'm one of those people that remembers when this was all pastures and woods. I hate how the expansion has gone, DFW has done it in the least efficient and least enjoyable way possible. I would leave if I felt like I could

Craziness - Bladed jig the best bass bait?
a bladed jig was everything for me for the first year or so I was fishing, basically until I ran into water under 50ish degrees. It can do so much - you can fish it like a lipless, an A frame, a jig, even a ned rig if you use one small enough. But it does get worn out and eventually that bite slows down. It takes a while but it does happen, I have experienced it firsthand. Still a top producer of good fish for me and a confidence bait, but like everything it has its limits. Don't know that I would call it the best though, not without defining criteria for "the best". Because "the best" can mean a lot of things. In my world, dollar-for-dollar, no bait gives me more than a red-eye shad. Between the durability and efficacy, all for the price of a single high-end bag of plastic, I have a hard time seeing much else as "better". But it's not something you can throw in all situations, therefore it loses points for versatility. tl;dr without qualifying criteria for "best", debating "best" of anything is a bit of a time vampire

Bottom Contact Searchbaits
3/4oz red eye shad runs fairly deep for a lipless, especially if you dont burn it. Has caught fish for me in 15-20fow. Otherwise it's a heavy texas rig for me

How Long Before You Change Lures?
I typically change baits when something changes from arrival time. For example if a wind shift occurs or clouds show up I will switch what I'm doing if its been a while without a bite. Usually picking up a different combo every 30 mins or so until I find something they like. I like to start with topwater and work my way down if I'm not on a pattern

This is a crazy one for me!
Whoa I've been divebombed before but this is a new one. Wowwww

Went out to the lake with my girlfriend to eat dinner and watch the sunset...and also fish LOL Spent about 25 minutes with line in the water and managed to find a couple bass in the one spot I casted around. Nice night, good way to get back at the water after a few days off. Looking forward to the cooler weather and some bigger fish moving shallow

Favorite Fluoro
I hardly use it for anything but leader, but I like the pline tactical, shooter FC, and yozuri topknot. some differently priced options for different settings. Anymore though I just use the sufix tritanium and call it a day unless I'm using line smaller than 14#

From my time working in guitar repair this is honestly 100% unsurprising. Gold-colored guitar hardware corrodes and degrades faster than any other color. Very rare that it holds up and the metals underneath tend to be very prone to rust. I don't know the chemical reason this happens but it happens. As much as I love the chartreuse chatterbaits i do worry about this with the gold blades

I've only really had this issue with the gold blades idk why been giving the body a rest while nature plays out Fake Fall/Second Summer. I am not a young 31-year-old. The last couple weeks have been stuck at 95f/75f with a whole lot of bluebird. For this time of year it makes for a really tough pattern to fish. Last time I was there they were still eating the tiny tiny baits. This week looks like highs in the 70s/lows in the 50s so you can bet i will be glued to the lake, looking for a pattern change. I should be getting my favorite jerkbait and lipless crankbait rods back from the local pro just in time. Oowee sucker

How would you rate yourself ????

I haven't taken them apart entirely to grease them but I oil the bearings and worm gear on all my reels whenever I change line and clean accessible areas of grime. All three of my lews reels are peppery and were that way within a couple weeks of moderate use- Lews Speed Spool SLP CP1SH
It's my favorite reel without a doubt. Made my curado dc feel like a waste of money until it broke if we're being real about it. Nice smooth drag. Only complaint is the classic lews pepper grinder noise when you're winding. But that's just kind of a fact of life with all the lews I have. I still intend to return it to service when the new spool shows up and bomb cast like the good ol day. I'll eventually spring for a gen2 but I would like to get more than 15 months out of the original lol- Lews Speed Spool SLP CP1SH
For what its worth, my tatula CTs are some of my favorite reels and they are non-centrifugal braking as mentioned above. They only start struggling with the startup jerk when I'm throwing something over 1.25oz or so. Perfect for a texas rig, lipless crank, 110, 3/8oz chatterbait, any of your standard sized lures. The lews tournament XP and inshore custom reels i own have the click switches on the spool when you open the palm plate. Some of the other lews have centrifugal brakes that use the dial like the mag brakes do - these bomb cast really, really well but it's the only braking system that's ever broken on me. Lews customer service is amazing though, they're sending me replacement parts. I'm excited to get the Tournament Pro back in service, it's my favorite reel- Latest Catch Pics Thread
Safe travels brother we look forward to more of your green footballs soon- question about this forum. why do some of my post need to be vetted first?
I get it from time to time even with 1000+ posts. Best I can tell for me its just a spam filter sort of thing, but I imagine that Post Approval has many uses- Latest Catch Pics Thread

In my defense I did catch my PB on December 19 (still technically not winter) but I had to be on a boat to do it ? but basically from there till March...yes, lol That's an amazing story and heartbreak. I hope you get another one with a better result soon!- Ever catch a fish with someone else's lure still attached?
Ooo this is a good thread revival My PB smallie had someone's blue/white deep diving crankbait hooked in its lip, along with probably 10 yards of line. I had to let it swim me off a few snags with slack line before it could be landed. Whole thing took like five minutes maybe. PB+freebait. That aside I've caught two other bass at that spot with senkos in em, one in the gullet with a flipping hook, second in the other end. I snapped off on a log at this spot once, close to the bank but not close enough to get loose without a swim. Came back the next day to find a dink gullet hooked on it. Went for a swim. Removed all safely thanks to the hook removal guides here and began fishing more carefully to avoid more situations like that. My PB blue cat had a swimbait in its mouth that had been there long enough to have scar tissue encasing most of it. Would have done just as much or more harm than good to remove it so I left it alone. I don't snap off on fish hardly ever so I don't really find my own lures on them- NOAA - the best feature for me as a bass fisherman.
I usually look at the location I'm trying to fish, and then click on the 3-day history (red circle). It shows an hourly report of pressure from the nearest NOAA station (red box). Wunderground has more stations that can give you better locality but they are not always calibrated to NOAA standards. NOAA area forecast discussions are the best way to get forecasts, the graphics are nice but they explain them in detail with the AFD. Generally when the pressure is dropping in value, I get lockjawed fish. Dropping surface pressure is often associated with the approach of a cold front or a thunderstorm/deteriorating conditions. It also drops in the middle of the day as the surface air warms and rises. Pressure will rise after the weather moves through, or when the air cools and sinks. When the pressure value is on an upward trend, I'm less likely to skunk. I haven't noticed a particular pressure reading that indicates bites, it's more about the trend. Some of my best fishing this year has been on the back side of storms as the pressure is rising. On the flip side of that, they will also bite more aggressively in a rain shower (local low pressure) because most birds of prey do not hunt in the rain, and then the bite will back off even while the pressure rises and the rain comes to an end. Once in a while I will get on a hot pre-storm bite, but it's rare. There's always exceptions. I have noticed every day for the last month that my fishing success follows the hourly pressure trends pretty closely, but we haven't had a ton of change in our weather patterns. On the sunny summer days, from about 5am we might rise 3-4mb till about noon when it either levels off or drops. Bite window is best between 6:30am and 10am. then as the sun sets the pressure rises again until 10pm-midnight, and then it drops again. Bite window anywhere from an hour or two before sunset, a lull while everyone's eyes adjust to the darkness, then good again until the pressure starts falling (usually midnight ish, later in the deep summer). There are variations to this, and as is the case for everything in bass fishing it is not a 100% predictor of great fishing. Just made the bluebird days slightly more predictable for me this August/September I intend to get an actual barometer to carry with me soon for more accurate readings- Latest Catch Pics Thread
I'm ready for it to not be 95 degrees here. We're running 5-15 degrees above normal here and I'm over it. I'm mostly curious to see how much it actually cools off this winter. This morning was in the 60s which was nice. I didn't make it out this morning, I blanked last night and just wasn't feeling great when I woke up. Found a rod repair guy, gonna get some of my old pieces back in service. Gonna do one of them myself because I have the parts, but the more expensive rods are gonna go to him. And shoutout to Lew's customer service - they're replacing the spool with the blown brake shoe on my tournament pro even though it's like three months out of warranty. 100% customer satisfaction. Hoping I can post something nice in here soon- Hated sounds of fishing
