Caught four this size, three on a lipless and one on the shaky head (thanks @LrgmouthShad) before it was a little too crowded for me to do my thing. Had every variety of meme fishing going on out there - the upside down spinning reel, the guy with five rods keeping fish of questionable legality, the stink bait guy, the guy in a skeeter parked next to the public pier, the fly fisherman ?? I found it mostly entertaining, by the time I was crowded out the bites were dying down anyway. It was borderline chilly out this morning, other people weren't about to kill my mood. A guy dropped his net in the water, I was able to flip a red eye shad onto it and pull it back to the pier. It was a good morning, hopefully first of many to come.

Would you respool?
I always appreciate any input yall have. Always looking to improve my catches. It is for sure more bends than abrasions
-
Shaky
Thanks! Gonna throw a 6" culprit ribbon tail on there and see what happens, might be good for those mornings where the ol monster gets short bit over and over

Shaky
I tied one on before this popped up. Means I must fish it when I go next ?? thank you!!

Sonars takin the fun out the hunt?
this is the final word on this topic as far as I'm concerned. I was a bit shocked when I saw the date though...LOL I woulda guessed this thread started yesterday ? those who are griping about FFS the loudest either can't afford it or can't figure out how to use what they can afford. It changed my view of a boat into merely a platform for FFS

Would you respool?
So I'm not sure why this is happening on a specific spool of mine - it's the texas rig reel that's getting the line dragged around concrete pylons up to 25' deep. I keep finding spots where the monofilament is kind of bent or like it's been in a knot. The line has also been dug in on itself on a few snapoffs. The spool of line is maybe a week old and is still pretty full - it feels sort of silly to change it, but knowing I'm fishing ol' monsters in deep water I feel conflicted. It's just going to happen again, and it hasn't caused a breakoff or anything....yet. I'm using sufix elite which is why I'm hesitant to respool, it's expensive to be doing it every few days. I think the obvious answer is to respool to be safe and start using big game instead LOL but what would you do? Mono is pretty sturdy stuff but I don't want to lose a nice fish just because I was being cheap

Knots in general
My favorite knots is the Don variety

Got a lot of short strikes on the ol monster this morning, finally landed one before all the bait disappeared. I saw a school of the biggest gizzard shads I've ever seen, like bigger than my PB sand bass. Some at least 12-15in. Pretty sure one of them was hitting the worm because the bites stopped when they swam away. I now understand the glide bait bite at this spot a little bit better.

Terrible day.
The one bite I had at texoma this morning did a similar thing. The noxious fumes of skunk are disrupting my humours, causing plague and malaise

How much do weather/illumination conditions affect when you go fishing?
I don't mess around with lightning but otherwise if I can cast, I'm casting. That changes when a boat gets involved, and becomes a matter of 'how likely is it that we will stuff the bow more than once?' sort of deal

Please share your 2023 20 lb. bag.
If we're talking best five of the whole year I break the 20lb mark at fish #3, best 5 go 34-4. I've been disappointed at the lack of consistency this year but I also have been limited in some ways I wasn't last year. My main point at Roberts has been fishing different, the Texas Parks policy enforcement changes regarding night fishing within the state park haven't helped either. I've caught fewer bag-size fish but they've been bigger. Such is the nature of bank fishing

Please share your 2023 20 lb. bag.
I don't think I've ever caught more than like 12lb in a day, I think the most I've ever caught in a day was like 15 or 18 dinks and it took the whole day LOL great job accomplishing your goals, those are a couple experiences I would love to have someday

Terrible day.
Today would be a good support thread day - I drove an hour, immediately dropped my phone and shattered the screen when I pulled up, and then skunked. Here's to the $300 I don't have that they want to fix my phone ??

Texas registration question
I would hope that common sense would be enough to stop you from publicly posting how you intend to commit tax fraud and then going through with it Don't get me wrong I hate the government as much or more as the next guy but there's times where it pays to use the "worth it?" gauge on the dash

That was a close one
?? thats frightening

Deps cover scat soft stick bait
There are some things that make me question why I have a huge array of plastics and lures. The fake plastic doodie is one of them. Next you'll tell me Spencer's Gifts is the next Tackle Warehouse, and I will be powerless to argue the point

The 4lb SM I pulled out of roberts had a blue and white 7-9' Rapala in its lip, I believe you entirely about that. Still, nice SM!

Latest Catch Pics Thread
My thumb took another beating this morning. Got on a consistent chatterbait bite for the first time in a few months, went with a buddy to Texoma and spent the morning pitching and flipping at docks from the shore. Caught a nice spotted bass and a dink, then two nice 3-4lb LM with the smallest LM to finish the day. The biggest fish beat out a bigger fish, looked like a solid 6+. I'm not complaining though. The only real disappointment was that I fell pretty hard on the rocks, and my buddy only caught a dinky sand bass. My casting arm took the brunt of the fall, it bent in some weird ways. I'm probably pretty lucky it didn't break but I did pull pretty much every muscle in my arm, I'm gonna be casting lefty for a bit. It was nice to get some good bites again, no regrets.

That's a good size smallie ?? any idea what the weight was like? Looks like a few pounds at least

When to change colors
like all things bass fishing I think it's variable. I think there's times where it's everything and I think there's times where they'll eat a lively sock if you throw it. I think it's more likely to matter when the bite is tough. I know it absolutely makes a difference in my red eye shad fishing, and with the ol monsters I've been using

Do you have (fishing) acquaintances that are a one-way street?
Most of the people I fish with are more novice than I am, most of the spots they know are places I've shown them and they're pretty much just there with me. If I knew more people with boats it would be different. I would be willing to share a deeper knowledge of Roberts with active BR members via DM if they were ever fishing there

Terrible day.
I know the feeling though...often when I feel like it should be a better catching day and I come up light it does hurt. There's times where I feel like we should have a skunk/fail/tough day support thread or something, I think it helps a lot of us to be able to vent after snapping off three tungstens and only catching invasive milfoil LOL

What would you guess the weight of this fish was?
That is a tournament-winning walleye

Bank fishing vs. boat fishing
I would contend that it depends on the lake and your geography. I bank fish a 27,000 acre reservoir and do better than I could at any public pond in the same driving distance
